PCX Celebrates 16 Philippine Companies for 100% Plastic Footprint Recovery

PCX Markets recently held their PULSE event, where they honored 16 Philippine organizations that have committed to achieving 100% recovery of their plastic footprint for 2025, marking a significant step toward responsible production and sustainable practices.

From everyday packaging to industrial waste, the world has produced more than 9 billion tons of plastic, far more than our planet can handle. Of all the plastic ever made, only about 9% of plastic waste is recycled, 19% incinerated, and 72% landfilled, openly burned, or ends up in the environment. In response, PCX is taking accountability for plastic waste and working to reduce the harmful impacts of the plastic pollution crisis. Guided by its mission to ensure no plastic ends up in nature, PCX is driving the nation’s shift toward a circular economy where plastic is recovered and re-circulated as useful materials through reuse, refurbishment, remanufacture, recycling and more.

With the passage of the Republic Act No. 11898 or the Extended Producers Responsibility (EPR) Act of 2022, large companies in the Philippines are required to take responsibility for the post-consumer management of their plastic packaging waste.

Through PCX, Obliged Enterprises are fulfilling their obligations to collect and responsibly process the plastic packaging waste they put out into the market. PCX Markets works hand-in-hand with PCX Solutions to provide end-to-end EPR compliance support, from footprint accounting to implementation and reporting, empowering companies to design effective reduction and recovery strategies and meet EPR Law requirements.

This year, the organizations that have committed to achieve the equivalent of 100% plastic recovery of their plastic packaging footprint for the compliance year 2025 include Beko Pilipinas Corporation, Century Pacific Food, Inc., Concepcion Durables, Inc., Concepcion Midea, Inc., Concepcion-Carrier Air Conditioning Company, Concepcion Industrial Corporation - Cortex Technologies Corporation, Domino’s Pizza Philippines, Generation Hope, Inc. (HOPE), General Odyssey, Inc., L’OrĂ©al Philippines Inc., Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corporation, Monde Nissin Corporation, Mondelez Philippines, Inc., Mr. DIY, The Pacific Meat Company Incorporated, and Wild Flour Bakery + Cafe Corp., modeling the kind of leadership and action we need to see more broadly across the private sector to tackle this urgent challenge.

“The leaders we honored today show that responsible action is possible. When companies commit to verified recovery of 100% of their plastic footprint, we can turn the tide on plastic waste and create lasting impact for people and planet,” said Ms. Nanette Medved-Po, Founder and Executive Chair of HOPE and PCX.

PCX Markets offers an end-to-end suite of plastic responsibility tools, including packaging EPR compliance software, verified resins, and a transparent platform for purchasing verified plastic credits that fund the collection, transport, and responsible processing of plastic waste to help companies achieve their plastic recovery goals.

Last year, PCX Markets successfully enabled the diversion of 160 million kilograms of plastic waste from around the world, through 44 projects and 238 companies in 14 countries, including the Philippines.

Allianz PNB Life Champions Single Moms with MaPanatag Initiative

Manila, Philippines – Allianz PNB Life, one of the leading life insurers in the Philippines, has launched MaPanatag, a socially inclusive initiative designed to address the unique needs and everyday challenges of single mothers. With an estimated 15 million single parents in the country, 95% of whom are women, Allianz recognizes the importance of supporting this community to help ease their daily burdens and secure a brighter tomorrow.
“MaPanatag” represents the peace of mind and assurance that Allianz aims to bring to single moms as they balance their responsibilities and nurture their families.
“The MaPanatag proposition is a testament to the care and support we want to extend to single moms,” said Joe Gross, President and CEO of Allianz PNB Life.
The inspiration behind MaPanatag began with a heartfelt conversation Joe had with a single mom from Allianz. During their exchange, she shared her worries about her child’s future—something that deeply resonated with him, as he himself was raised by a single mother.
“Single moms often carry the weight of the world on their shoulders,” Gross said. “Through MaPanatag, we want them to know they don’t have to face their fears alone. With Allianz by their side, they can be assured that their children will always be cared for.”
To ensure authenticity and relevance, the initiative’s development was led by three single moms from Allianz PNB Life. Their insights, along with the stories of Mombassadors from both PNB and Allianz, shaped the initiative to truly reflect the realities of single motherhood.
“MaPanatag was made by single moms, for single moms. It’s one of Allianz’s fastest-curated propositions—built to address real needs while ensuring accessibility and accuracy,” added Gross.
The Mombassadors from Allianz PNB Life include Apple Isidro, who shared her story of strength and perseverance; Heidi Larosa, whose journey is anchored on faith despite hardship; and Janella Reyes, who found victory through trials. Representing PNB are Rosemary Fernandez, who spoke about finding grace, strength, and love; Angel Galut, whose story reflects courage and resilience; and Aira Carmelo, who became stronger at every turn of her journey.
Holistic Support for Single Moms
The MaPanatag initiative provides comprehensive support for single moms through three (3) core benefits:

1. eAZy Health – A renewable life and health protection plan covering critical illness, accidental death, disability, dismemberment, and total and permanent disability—giving moms peace of mind in case of unforeseen circumstances. It can be availed for as low as P970 per month.

2. HerBox – A curated set of exclusive benefits for single moms, including a dedicated wellness benefit of ₱2,000 in the first year and ₱1,000 annually from Years 2–5, plus discounts and perks from partner clinics, pharmacies, wellness services, and mom-and-baby essentials.

3. Opportunity to Earn – Access to join the Allianz distribution team, allowing single moms to gain additional income to support their families.
Through these benefits, Allianz PNB Life reinforces its commitment to being a true partner to mothers raising their families singlehandedly.
“Single moms go above and beyond to provide for their families—but they shouldn’t have to face tomorrow’s uncertainties alone,” Gross emphasized. “MaPanatag is our way of helping them live strong today, with the assurance that tomorrow is secure.”
A Commitment to Inclusive Protection and Sustainability
MaPanatag underscores Allianz’s commitment to inclusive protection—ensuring that no mother feels she must carry the world’s weight alone.
“Sustainability has always been part of Allianz PNB Life’s journey,” Gross said. “MaPanatag aligns perfectly with our goal of building resilient and inclusive communities. That’s why we’re channeling our resources to make it more accessible and impactful, reaching as many single moms as possible.”
The partnership with PNB will play a crucial role in making MaPanatag available nationwide through PNB’s extensive network of branches.
Ultimately, MaPanatag reflects Allianz’s belief that no mom should ever feel alone in her journey—and that every act of love she makes for her children should be supported, celebrated, and remembered.

Jobstreet by SEEK Empowers Entrepreneurs at the MSME Summit

Micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) remain the backbone of the economy, comprising 99.5% of all registered businesses in the Philippines and creating 6 out of every 10 jobs*. While MSMEs offer vital contributions and express readiness to grow, many of them still face barriers, with talent crisis emerging as one of their biggest growth challenges.

In a survey conducted by Boston Consulting Group and the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) in 2024, 72% of MSME respondents said they want to expand their workforce; 82% want to upskill their current employees. However, the same survey revealed that 46% are experiencing a talent crisis—high demand, but hard to find quality candidates.
In line with its commitment to equipping not just Filipino jobseekers but also business owners, Jobstreet by SEEK rolled out its MSME Summit, an initiative aimed at empowering them to grow, compete, and thrive in a dynamic business landscape.

In partnership with SM for MSMEs, the event at the SM Mall of Asia Music Hall brought together MSME owners and industry leaders to discuss key challenges, opportunities, and strategies to growing your business, and make the hiring process easier and safer in finding the right candidates for their businesses.
The MSME Summit was organized to equip MSME owners with the knowledge and tools to strengthen their business operations through workshops and learning sessions about marketing, logistics, digital platforms, and finance from different business and marketing thought leaders.

“Jobstreet by SEEK believes that every thriving economy is built on the shoulders of its resilient and growing MSMEs. By empowering them through events like the MSME Summit, we’re not only helping their businesses grow and connecting them with the right talent but also fueling job creation and strengthening the local employment,” said Dannah Majarocon, Jobstreet by SEEK’s Managing Director in the Philippines.

Free job posting on a legitimate job platform

To help minimize talent crisis among MSMEs, Jobstreet by SEEK urged business owners to utilize legitimate job platforms, as hiring scams continue to rise on social media platforms. Hiring platforms not only protect your business and reputation but also ensure that you reach the right and active jobseekers seeking opportunities.

To start with, MSME owners may take the first step in looking for candidates through its “SMEasy sa Jobstreet” initiative. This highlights its free and user-friendly job posting feature, making it easier for MSME owners to post a job ad on the job platform, with the potential of reaching thousands of talents from its nearly 14-million candidate user base nationwide.

New Manulife Report Finds Asians Want to Live Better, Not Just Longer, as They Prepare for a 40-Year Retirement

MANILA, Philippines – As people across Asia live longer than ever before, a growing number are prioritizing purpose and quality in a longer life, according to the 2025 Financial Resilience and Longevity Report for Asia (the “Report”) unveiled by Manulife Wealth & Asset Management (Manulife WAM). The Report reveals that as longevity rises across the region, people aspire to live independently and healthily in retirement, but many still face challenges in achieving lasting financial resilience.

The Report, which focuses on Hong Kong, Malaysia, Indonesia, and the Philippines, builds on Manulife’s established commitment to longevity preparedness and is exemplified by the recent launch of Manulife’s Longevity Institute, a global platform that seeks to drive action to help people live longer, healthier, and more financially secure lives.
Calvin Chiu, Head of Asia Retirement, Manulife and Chief Executive Officer, Manulife Investment Management Hong Kong said, “Longevity is reshaping how people across Asia think about retirement. We’re seeing people rethink what retirement means—not simply living longer, but living better. Financial independence, health, and well-being now define success in this new era of longevity.”

Living Better, Not Just Longer

The report shows that most Asians prioritize quality of life over longevity itself. Fewer than 1 in 10 respondents said they wanted to live longer regardless of circumstances, while half said they value living a meaningful life, and over one-third expressed a desire not to be a burden on others. When envisioning later life, people overwhelmingly said they hope to be financially independent, stay physically and mentally active, and age gracefully while maintaining their desired standard of living.

These findings highlight a strong desire for autonomy and wellbeing, with many viewing health and financial stability as deeply connected. Across all four markets, three-quarters of respondents believe that their financial wellbeing affects their physical and mental health, while 85% said financial wellbeing influences their mental state during retirement.

“People across Asia want to enjoy their extended lifespans with dignity, purpose, and freedom,” added Chiu. “That requires a shift in mindset—from saving for retirement to planning for longevity.”

Asia’s Financial Readiness Gap

Despite this awareness, less than half of respondents across Asia believe they will have enough funds to retire comfortably. Confidence varies widely across markets, from just 48% in Hong Kong to 77% in Indonesia. Mid-career individuals aged between 45 and 54 are the least optimistic about their preparedness, underscoring a need for more proactive financial planning.

Cash continues to dominate the average Asian portfolio, representing roughly half of non-property investments, reflecting ongoing caution toward risk. Many respondents cited fear of capital loss and lack of investment knowledge as reasons for avoiding higher-yielding assets. Property, once the cornerstone of Asian retirement planning, is losing its dominance. While most still regard it as important, only 3 in 10 now see it as less of a priority than before.

“Holding too much cash and relying solely on property can leave people vulnerable to inflation and income shortfalls,” said Chiu. “Building financial resilience means diversifying across income-generating and inflation-protected assets—and doing so early.”

Advice Matters: Professional Guidance Drives Confidence

The Report found a clear link between financial advice and confidence. Across all four markets, people who work with a financial planner are significantly more likely to feel ready for the future. In Indonesia, for example, 89% of those with a financial planner said they expect to have sufficient funds for retirement, compared to 63% of those without one. In Hong Kong, that gap widens further, with 62% of people who work with a planner feel confident versus only 29% without. Insurance agents and financial planners from insurance companies remain the most common sources of advice across Asia, followed by bank relationship managers and independent advisors.

“Professional advice can make all the difference,” Chiu added. “With the right guidance, people can move from simply saving to actively investing, giving them greater control over their future income and lifestyle.”
Generational and Market Insights Across Asia

Regional patterns reveal both progress and disparity. In Hong Kong, less than half (48%) of respondents believe they will have sufficient funds for retirement. However, many are taking action—around two-thirds (65%) plan to shift part of their cash into higher-return investments. In Malaysia, confidence is moderate, with 58% expecting to be financially ready. Many Malaysians expressed strong interest in pension solutions that provide steady retirement income and protection against inflation.

In contrast, Indonesia emerged as the most financially confident market, with 77% of respondents believing they will have enough savings for the future. Indonesians also show the willingness to diversify, with 69% saying they are now more open to investing for income rather than holding property. Meanwhile, the Philippines reflects both optimism and transition: while just over half (52%) of respondents feel financially prepared for the future, 73% now prefer income-generating investments over property (71%), signaling a generational shift in retirement thinking.

These market insights collectively underscore a growing recognition that living longer requires new investment habits, diversified portfolios, and a stronger focus on financial literacy.

The Report also highlights a common insight across generations. Younger, mid-life and older groups consistently ranked a work-free new chapter as their top priority when it comes to retirement outlook. This desire is strongest among the younger group (25-34) at 55% and the older group (60+) at 58%, while mid-life groups (45–59) show a more balance view with many leaning toward balancing work and life with continued employment at the same time.
A Call to Action: Building Longevity Confidence

As life expectancy continues to rise, the Report urges individuals, employers, and financial planners to rethink traditional retirement strategies. Manulife WAM advocates a more holistic approach to longevity—one that combines early financial planning, diversified investments, and continuous professional guidance to help people thrive through longer retirements.

“Longevity should be a source of optimism, not anxiety,” Chiu concluded. “With the right financial habits and guidance, people can turn longer lives into better lives—and that’s the vision driving our work at Manulife.”

Schneider Electric Champions Safer, Smarter Electrical Design to Combat Rising Fire Risks

MANILA, PHILIPPINES – Fire incidents in the Philippines are often linked to electrical systems that have not kept pace with modern safety standards. Schneider Electric,  a global energy technology leader, is urging developers, engineers, and property stakeholders to strengthen their approach to electrical design by placing greater emphasis on safety, scalability, and reliability as fire risks linked to weak electrical infrastructure continue to rise.

Many homes and buildings still rely on outdated or poorly designed electrical systems, with overloaded circuits, undersized wiring, and unsafe setups like “octopus connections” identified by the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) as major fire hazards. In 2024 alone, the BFP reported over 1,800 more fire incidents caused by electrical faults compared to the previous year. Rising appliance use and hybrid work setups are driving energy demand beyond what many existing systems can safely handle.

In response, Schneider Electric identifies five critical elements local businesses, developers, and homeowners must prioritize to build safe and resilient electrical infrastructure across residential, commercial, and industrial spaces:

1.Circuit protection and system reliability
Modern households and businesses use high-demand equipment such as air conditioners, water heaters and computing devices including servers, computers, or gaming consoles, that need dedicated circuit breakers to prevent overloads and fire risk. To reduce these risks, Schneider Electric urges developers to use automatic circuit breakers that quickly detect and stop faults, preventing fires, electric shocks, and damage while ensuring a safe, stable power supply. Its solutions—such as the Easy9, EasyPact EZC, and MVS circuit breaker ranges—are engineered to respond swiftly to electrical faults, helping safeguard residential, commercial, and industrial spaces by minimizing fire risks and preventing costly damage.

2.Backup power for business continuity
Power outages continue to cause daily losses ranging from PHP 10,000 to PHP 30,000 per day for micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in key urban centers, while large businesses incur 100,000 in revenue losses daily, according to consumer advocacy group ILAW—disrupting operations, damaging equipment, and threatening long-term profitability. To reduce these impacts, Schneider Electric emphasizes the need for uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems such as the APC Easy UPS and Easy UPS On–Line that provide businesses with automatic battery backup and surge protection for critical equipment, ensuring operations remain online during outages or power fluctuations.

3. Real-time energy monitoring
In early 2024, the Department of Energy reported ₱400 million in electricity and fuel savings through energy efficiency programs, highlighting the potential of real-time monitoring for economic and environmental gains. To support similar outcomes, Schneider Electric offers solutions like the Power Monitoring Expert that supports energy optimization by providing real-time insights, live alerts, carbon tracking, and water, air, gas, electricity, steam (WAGES) data compatibility to help businesses detect inefficiencies, control costs, and make informed decisions.

4. Durable, modern switches and sockets
In early 2025, the Department of Trade and Industry seized over ₱134 million worth of uncertified electrical products due to safety risks like fire and electrocution. Schneider Electric highlights the importance of using certified, durable, and heat-resistant components. Solutions like AvatarOn A offer safer, more reliable switches and sockets with child-proof shutters, universal sockets, convenient USB ports, and durable materials that stay secure and resist wear.

5. Scalable, sustainable power
As businesses go digital, data centers must scale quickly while ensuring uptime, efficiency, and cost control. To meet rising power demands without downtime, many are turning to flexible systems that can easily expand as their needs increase. Schneider Electric supports this shift with solutions like the Easy UPS 3-Phase Modular,  which has a live swap feature that allows users to add and replace power modules without business downtime—helping them scale efficiently, improve safety, and grow sustainably. The result is a smarter, more agile approach to powering the digital economy.

“Electrical systems, when properly designed, prevent hazards, protect both people and properties, and strengthen the infrastructure needed to support business continuity, community safety, and the country’s national development,” said Harold Lim, Country Solutions Head of Schneider Electric Philippines.
With more than 30 years of experience in the Philippines and global recognition as the World’s Most Sustainable Company by Time Magazine and Statista, Schneider Electric continues to lead efforts in developing forward-thinking power solutions that build safer, more energy-resilient power infrastructure for Filipino communities.

TIEZA’s 16-Year Legacy of Transforming the Travel Tax Into Tourism Development

18 November 2025, Pasay City, Philippines — Since its establishment in 2009, the Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority (TIEZA) has emerged as a key driver of tourism-led growth, harnessing the power of the Philippine Travel Tax to fund sustainable infrastructure, attract private investments, and uplift local communities across the country.

Over the past 16 years, TIEZA has redefined how tourism development contributes to nation-building and how every traveler’s contribution can transform into lasting impact through projects that enhance accessibility, preserve heritage, and promote inclusive growth.

Building the Foundations of Tourism

Between 2021 and 2025, TIEZA implemented over 200 tourism infrastructure projects nationwide, improving access, safety, and sustainability in key and emerging destinations. Among its flagship accomplishments is the rollout of 34 Tourist Rest Areas (TRAs) across major travel corridors  — modern facilities designed to enhance traveler comfort through clean restrooms, tourism information centers, and spaces that promote local products. This initiative earned international recognition as the TRAs were named “Infrastructure Project of the Year (Tourism Category)” at the GovMedia Awards 2024 in Singapore.

TIEZA also spearheaded the rehabilitation of heritage and flagship tourism assets, including the Banaue Hotel and Youth Hostel in Ifugao, Mount Data Hotel in the Cordilleras, and the Gat Andres Bonifacio Shrine and Eco-Tourism Park in Cavite. It likewise preserved historical landmarks such as the Malinta Tunnel in Corregidor and Escuela Pia in Batangas, supporting the growth of cultural and educational tourism.

“Our role as the builder of tourism infrastructure goes beyond construction, enhancement, and rehabilitation. It’s about connection. Every facility we build connects travelers to destinations and communities to new opportunities,” said TIEZA Chief Operating Officer Mark T. Lapid.

Driving Investments and Sustainability

TIEZA continues to strengthen the tourism economy by developing Tourism Enterprise Zones (TEZs)  — strategic areas that offer fiscal incentives to tourism-related enterprises. These incentives include Income Tax Holidays, Gross Income Tax in lieu of national taxes, and VAT and duty exemptions, which create a business-friendly environment that encourages both domestic and foreign investments.

Flagship TEZs in San Vicente (Palawan), Panglao Bay Premiere (Bohol), Rizal Park (Manila), and Corregidor Island (Cavite) are now emerging as sustainable, world-class tourism hubs designed to balance economic growth with environmental responsibility.

In 2024, TIEZA also signed a landmark Public-Private Partnership (PPP) with Premier Islands Management Corporation (PIMC) for the management of the Aquilino Q. Pimentel Jr. International Convention Center (APICC)  — a model of efficiency and innovation in government asset management.

That same year, TIEZA’s partnerships generated ₱104 million in revenue, marking a 14.29% year-on-year increase from ₱91 million in 2023. These earnings are reinvested into infrastructure development and community livelihood programs, ensuring that tourism growth remains inclusive and sustainable.

Tourism Assets That Thrive

TIEZA’s own tourism assets have shown exceptional growth, proving the agency’s effective management approach. In 2024, the Club Intramuros Golf Course in Manila generated ₱79.3 million in gross revenue, which marked a 2.98% increase from its ₱76.9 million revenue in 2023, a steady increase since the pandemic.

As one of the oldest golf courses in the country, it stands out as one of the most successful and enduring government assets under the management of TIEZA. Its status as a thriving tourism asset is deeply grounded not only in its operational strengths but also in its cultural value, accessibility, and its contribution to Manila’s tourism and economic growth.

Other flagship assets including the Zamboanga Golf Course and Beach Park in Zamboanga City and Mount Data Hotel in Bauko, Mountain Province have consistently seen significant performance improvements in recent years driven by upgraded facilities, sustainability measures, and stronger local partnerships.

Recognitions and Reforms in Public Service

TIEZA’s institutional reforms have been recognized nationally and internationally. In 2024, the agency received the Civil Service Commission’s Bronze Award (Level 2 PRIME-HRM) for organizational excellence and achieved ISO 9001:2015 recertification, reinforcing its culture of transparency, accountability, and continuous improvement.

That same year, TIEZA co-presented the Philippine Tourism and Hotel Investment Summit 2024, which convened over 200 business and industry leaders to strengthen the country’s tourism investment ecosystem through infrastructure innovation and policy alignment.

A Vision for the Next Decade

Looking ahead to its 20th year and the implementation of the National Tourism Development Plan (NTDP) 2023–2028, TIEZA is set to expand its portfolio of sustainable tourism projects, modernize travel facilities, and deepen collaboration with the private sector.

“Our story is one of service and sustainability,” Lapid said. “The goal is not just to welcome more tourists, but to ensure that every destination we develop empowers the Filipino communities behind them.”

By turning the Philippine Travel Tax into a force for national development, TIEZA continues to deliver on its mission of Building Tourism Together.
