17 January 2020 – Singapore: The largest global sports media property in Asian history, ONE Championship™ (ONE), returns to the Singapore Indoor Stadium on Friday, 28 February for ONE: KING OF THE JUNGLE, set to showcase the absolute best in world-class martial arts talent.

In the main event, two-sport ONE World Champion Stamp Fairtex of Thailand is scheduled to defend her ONE Atomweight Kickboxing World Title against Janet “J.T.” Todd of the United States.

More information on ONE: KING OF THE JUNGLE is available at Ticket information is available at

Stamp returns to ONE Super Series action to defend her ONE Atomweight Kickboxing World Title. After going 4-0 in mixed martial arts competition thus far, the 22-year-old phenom has taken the world by storm, captivating audiences across the globe with her striking prowess and unmistakable charm.

Stamp was most recently in action at ONE: A NEW TOMORROW at home in Bangkok, where she finished Puja Tomar via first-round technical knockout. Now she makes the quick turnaround to defend one of her prestigious belts.

Todd, a two-time Pan-American Muay Thai Champion, challenged Stamp in early 2019 for the inaugural ONE Atomweight Muay Thai World Championship, but ultimately fell short of victory after five close rounds. Despite the setback, Todd remains Stamp’s toughest test to date. The two now look to reprise their epic battle, this time with the ONE Atomweight Kickboxing World Championship on the line.

In the co-main event of the evening, reigning ONE Strawweight Kickboxing World Champion Sam-A Gaiyanghadao of Thailand will take on Rocky Ogden of Australia for the ONE Strawweight Muay Thai World Title.

Sam-A was spectacular in his most recent bout, a unanimous decision nod over Wang Junguang last December. Recognized as one of the most accomplished Muay Thai competitors of all time, Sam-A has put together a stellar professional career spanning more than 400 bouts. He has captured Muay Thai World Titles across several weight classes. He joined ONE Super Series in 2018, and not long after became the inaugural ONE Flyweight Muay Thai World Champion. Although he would surrender that title, he would capture the ONE Strawweight Kickboxing World Title in his most recent contest. Sam-A now attempts to capture a another belt, the ONE Strawweight Muay Thai World Championship, when he goes against ONE Super Series newcomer Ogden, a WPMF Bantamweight World Champion.

In a lightweight contest, former ONE World Title challenger Amir Khan of Singapore will take on ONE Warrior Series contract winner Kimihiro Eto of Japan.

Khan, a Singaporean Muay Thai champion, has faced the biggest names in ONE Championship, including former ONE Lightweight World Champion Eduard Folayang and former ONE Featherweight World Champion Honorio Banario. Eto, on the other hand, is a national Greco-Roman and Freestyle wrestling champion who has a penchant for notching impressive submissions.

Veteran Yoshihiro “Sexyama” Akiyama of Japan and Korea returns to action against Sherif “The Shark” Mohamed of Egypt in a welterweight mixed martial arts contest. Akiyama seeks his first victory on the ONE Championship global stage against a seasoned opponent, while Mohamed looks to get back to the winner’s circle by downing a legend.

Top women’s atomweight and former ONE World Title challenger Mei “V.V” Yamaguchi of Japan continues her march to the top of the weight class, this time by facing formidable Chinese adversary, Meng Bo. Yamaguchi is known for her well-rounded striking and grappling skills, as well as veteran experience. She has faced the biggest names in her division throughout her career, which includes challenging Angela Lee twice for the atomweight belt. Meng, meanwhile, is a winner of her last four bouts, three of which have come inside the distance.

Unbeaten American bantamweight contender Troy Worthen has no doubt impressed thus far in his ONE Championship career, winning his first two bouts for the promotion -- both technical knockout victories over game opponents. Worthen will take on New Zealand’s Mark Fairtex Abelardo, a ONE Warrior Series contract winner.

Former ONE Featherweight World Champion Honorio “The Rock” Banario of the Philippines battles Thai superstar Shannon “OneShin” Wiratchai in a featherweight contest. Both Banario and Wiratchai are looking for statement-making wins to kick-start their year, but only one man will leave the ONE Circle with their hands raised in victory.

Fan-favorite and former ONE World Title challenger Tiffany “No Chill” Teo of Singapore makes her highly-anticipated return to action against dangerous grappler Ayaka Miura of Japan. Teo’s most recent outing saw her claim victory over Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu world champion Michelle Nicolini. Miura, conversely, is coming off a scintillating performance against Maira Mazar earlier this month. Teo certainly knows how to deal with grapplers, but Miura is riding a wave of momentum into this contest that may prove tough to overcome.

Indian wrestling sensation Ritu “The Indian Tigress” Phogat goes for two-in-a-row in her budding mixed martial arts career when she locks horns with China’s Wu Chiao Chen. Phogat sizzled in her ONE Championship debut late last year, when she finished Nam Hee Kim in the first round by technical knockout. Phogat will need to be at the top of her game against Wu, who is looking to make an impact in her ONE Championship debut.

In a ONE Super Series kickboxing contest, WFKO Kyokushin Karate World Champion Hiroki Akimoto of Japan faces OneSongchai R1 Champion Azwan Che Wil of Malaysia. Representing Evolve MMA in Singapore, Akimoto is coming off a thrilling victory over Kenny Tse last year, showcasing his toughness and aggressive striking style. He will need every bit of power he can muster if he wants to stop his determined Malaysian foe.

Lastly, ONE Strawweight Indonesian Tournament Champion Adrian “The Papua Badboy” Mattheis of Indonesia aims to bounce back from a tough loss to countryman Stefer Rahardian by claiming victory over CMPC 2015 Fighter Of The Year, “Wolf of the Grasslands” Hexigetu. Local hero Radeem Rahman, the first Singaporean martial artist in ONE Championship, goes head-to-head with Canada’s Jeff Chan.

Shopee Rounds Up Exceptional 2019; Envisions Online Shopping to be more Personalized, Engaging, and Social in 2020

Shopee, the leading e-commerce platform in Southeast Asia and Taiwan, sums up an exceptional 2019 and outlines three defining characteristics for online shopping in 2020: Personalized, Engaging, Social. Shopee enjoyed a landmark 2019 as it pioneered industry-leading initiatives that transformed online shopping in the region. In 2020, Shopee will take its efforts to the next level by making online shopping more fun, customized, and interactive.

Martin Yu, Associate Director at Shopee Philippines said, “Shopee had an incredible 2019. We achieved new milestones by staying true to our vision of making online shopping engaging and social. This is proven by our successful in-app games and features which continue to delight millions of users daily. As e-commerce becomes the norm in the coming years, the next challenge is to make shopping online more personal and customized for each user. Shopee believes this to be the future of online shopping and we are committed to making it a reality.”

Shopee led the way for Southeast Asia’s e-commerce market in 2019

Shopee extended its market leadership in 2019, driven by its successful strategy to forge a social and engaging shopping experience. Fun is at the heart of the Shopee experience as its popular in-app games and features entertained shoppers across the region:

  • Over 1 billion plays recorded on Shopee’s wide range of in-app games in 2019
  • 10,000 hours of content streamed on Shopee Live a day on average
Sellers and brand partners also saw tremendous growth on Shopee in 2019. Sellers across the region experienced a steady increase in orders throughout the year, especially during the busy year-end shopping period. In addition, more brands and retailers joined Shopee to reach more customers, as the product assortment on Shopee Mall doubled in 2019.

Powered by its successful strategy, Shopee was crowned the number one shopping app in Southeast Asia and Taiwan by Monthly Active Users (MAU) in the second and third quarter of 2019. In addition, Shopee set new records during the year-end shopping season, highlighted by 80 million items sold in just 24 hours at its annual finale, Shopee 12.12 Big Christmas Sale.

2019 Highlights at Shopee Philippines

2019 was a fruitful and fulfilling year for Shopee Philippines, as it achieved several major milestones for users. Key highlights include:

  • Provide non-stop entertainment for Filipinos: Celebrated the beginning of the Christmas season with its first-ever TV show, Shopee 11.11 Big Christmas TV Special. Millions of Filipinos joined in the fun to catch their favourite celebrities, including Alden Richards, Maine Mendoza, and Heart Evangelista.
  • Announce Filipino Popstar Royalty as new brand ambassador: Sarah Geronimo joined in the fun to celebrate Shopee 6.6 - 7.7 Lowest Price Sale as Shopee brand ambassador. Shopee recorded millions of online views for its commercial with Sarah Geronimo for Shopee 6.6 - 7.7 Lowest Price sale.
  • Deepen user engagement with Shopee Live: Rolled out in-app livestreaming feature in April to provide shoppers an innovative and social shopping experience. Consumers can watch Shopee Live to score exclusive deals, connect with their favorite celebrities, and get Shopee vouchers.
The future of online shopping: Personalized, Engaging, Social

Shopee foresees online shopping to be even more personalized, engaging, and social in 2020. In line with this vision, Shopee will introduce new platform innovations to bring users a fun and personalized shopping experience in the new year:

  • Personalized shopping with data and artificial intelligence (AI): Shopee will deepen its use of AI and big data to curate a more personalized shopping journey for users. For example in 2019, Shopee leveraged deep learning for its recommendation engine to bring users customized shopping suggestions based on purchase and browsing data.
  • Leveling up user-engagement with new in-app games: Shopee will also innovate its collection of in-app games to bring users more fun and entertainment. In the Philippines, Shopee rolled out its latest horoscope game, the 2020 Fortune Forecast, to mark the beginning of the new year and to allow Filipinos to read their fortune for the year ahead.
  • Deeper social interaction on Shopee Feed: Finally, users in all markets can expect an upgraded social experience through Shopee Feed by the first quarter of 2020. Shopee Feed offers various social functions for users to create content and interact with friends, fellow buyers, and sellers on Shopee.
Yu closed: “I believe that online shopping should bring fun and joy to people. Everyone at Shopee is working hard to make shopping engaging, social, and personalized as e-commerce continues to evolve in our region. We are thrilled at what is to come in 2020 and we look forward to another fruitful year.”

US NCAA Division I Coaches zero in on young talent at DreamBig Gold Tennis Camp

Manila, Philippines – Junior tennis players who joined the DreamBig Gold Series Tennis Camp at Manila Polo Club, Makati on January 11 and 12, 2020 caught the eye of U.S. NCAA Division I coaches.

Ezequiel Gils of Rice University, Rob Raines of Cornell University and Jesse Frieder from Boston University were more than pleasantly surprised by the Philippine tennis landscape when they watched the tennis players participate in the extremely intensive tennis training camp.

Twenty young tennis players were given the rare opportunity to be trained by the Division I Tennis coaches and underwent extensive, hands-on training that gave them an insight on of how US colleges run their athletic programs.

“Talent is everywhere. I’ve seen a lot of players who can play at a really high level if they just commit to spending time on the court and practicing. I can’t believe I’ve been missing out on the Philippines in terms of tennis. It’s a place a lot of coaches are missing out on and it’s certainly a place that I’ll keep in mind as I’m recruiting,” added Cornell University Coach Rob Raines.

The coaches were impressed with the campers and their eagerness to learn, with Boston U coach, Jesse Frieder specifically praising the student-athletes for their coachability. “The players here are very coachable, which leads me to believe that if they to end up in any of our teams, we could help them reach for the sky because they’re open to learning and improving.”

The coaches were particularly impressed with several of the country’s up and coming tennis sensations including, the 16-year old son of former Olympian Bea Lucero - Sebastien Lhuillier - who participated in the camp. According to the coaches, almost all the players showed potential to play at the Division I level.

“Physicality and fitness are so important. It’s so easy to lose to somebody when they hit the ball harder than you because they’re bigger than you are. But if you consistently beat higher-ranked players while winning 3-set matches, you prove to us that you are really tough and gritty. We want to see you in more and more matches because it makes your UTR more accurate and it makes you a tougher tennis player. We want players in our team who are tough; who are not scared of pressure and not scared of the moment.” Coach Frieder said.

Overall, however, the coaches said it will take more than talent to compete at the world level. With resources becoming readily available, it will take proper mindset, grit, and support from the country for young players to dream big and achieve big.

“It’s more mindset than perhaps even resources. Having someone who is hungry as a child—and I mean hungry to learn— is crucial. We need somebody who wants to be better today than they were yesterday regardless of what their floor is, in terms of talent and athletic ability,” said Rice University Coach Ezequiel Gils

“People who work the hardest, who are disciplined, who go to the gym, who consistently practice buckets of serves, are generally the most confident. You gain confidence from preparation. The more confident the player — the more he or she  is likely to win,” said Coach Jesse Frieder.

“Manila has the facilities, and the weather. You can work on having good fitness. This country surely has the possibility of having a champion someday,” Rice University Coach Ezequiel Gils said.

Akshay Maliwal, Founder and CEO of DreamBig Events said DreamBig is bringing in more camps and tournaments for tennis, golf and soccer this year, to give local junior athletes the opportunity to be discovered by Division I US universities coaches who can help them reach their personal goals and the country’s dream to have Filipino players compete at the international stage.

Team Lakay’s Gina Iniong: ‘I Am The More Well-Rounded Fighter’

As Gina Iniong enters her third year with ONE Championship, she is focused on making the most of each opportunity presented to her.

That starts again at ONE: FIRE & FURY with a match against Asha Roka from the Mall of Asia Arena in Manila, Philippines.

Iniong picked up her fourth victory competing for ONE last February, earning a hard-fought split decision over Jihin Radzuan at ONE: CLASH OF LEGENDS. She is 4-2 overall with the promotion and 8-4 in her career.

“Everyone wants to be a World Champion,” Iniong said. “We will get there eventually, but right now, this next fight is the most important to me.”

There has been no easy tests for “Conviction” during her time with ONE, as the Baguio City native and Team Lakay-trained athlete has squared off with the likes of former ONE World Title challengers Istela Nunes, Jenny Huang, and Mei Yamaguchi.

While Yamaguchi got the better of her when they last met in 2017, Iniong does hold a 2014 victory over the Japanese standout.

“I have never thought about how many fights I need left before I get a title shot,” she said. “I am just focused on always getting that victory against whoever they put in front of me. I just want to showcase my best and win.”

Regardless of all that, the focus for Iniong is squarely on Roka and what she presents. Roka is 4-1 and coming off a loss to two-sport ONE World Champion Stamp Fairtex last August in her ONE debut.

“Right now, the only thing on my mind is beating Asha Roka,” she said. “That is what I am training for. I will take things one fight at a time. I believe in my abilities and trust in my team. Whatever opportunities come after, I will take it.

“Asha Roka is a striker who has very good boxing. I think her weakness may be in her ground game. I think I am the more well-rounded fighter. That is the difference between us.”

This will mark the first appearance back in her home country since besting Huang in 2018 at ONE: HEROES OF HONOR.

She will be joined by several of her Team Lakay teammates including ONE Strawweight World Champion Joshua Pacio, former ONE Lightweight World Champion Eduard Folayang, and Danny Kingad, all who are scheduled for action the same night.

“I am excited to climb the ring for ONE Championship again, and even more so that this event is in Manila,” Iniong said. “I want to make the Filipino fans proud again so I am looking to give a good performance.”

‘No Price Increase for N95 and other Similar Masks,’ Vow Retailers and Suppliers to DTI’

Drug and medical stores committed to the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) that they will not increase their prices for N95, surgical, and other similar masks as the country faces the effects of the phreatic eruption of Taal Volcano which happened last Sunday, 12 January 2020.

Upon receipt of public reports about the rampant selling of overpriced medical masks in the market, the DTI immediately mobilized monitoring teams in the affected areas of Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Quezon, and Metro Manila to monitor the prices and supply of said products, including those goods classified as basic necessities and prime commodities.

Monitoring reports revealed that N95 masks are sold at PHP 120 up to PHP 150 per piece while surgical masks that were priced at PHP 1.00 per piece were sold at PHP 4.00 per piece after the Taal eruption. These were mostly sold out due to an increase in public demand as ashfall enveloped nearby cities and provinces surrounding Taal.

“While we recognize that the N95, surgical, and other similar masks as medical supplies are under the jurisdiction of the Department of Health (DOH), the DTI readily dispersed its teams to monitor the prices and supply of these masks to assist the DOH and the consumers. As the Health Department, we understand that its utmost priority is ensuring the lives and health safety of those who are affected by the phreatic eruption. Market surveillance and monitoring is the best form of immediate assistance that the DTI can provide. As the President constantly underscores, A whole-of-government approach is highly necessary and called for especially during times of calamities and disasters,” says DTI Secretary Ramon M. Lopez.

The DTI further clarifies that these masks are neither classified as basic nor prime good under the Price Act. Therefore, these have no Suggested Retail Prices (SRPs) and were never part of the list of products being monitored by the DOH or any of the implementing agencies of the said law.

However, the Price Act provides that the National Price Coordinating Council (NPCC) in which the DTI and DOH are part of, can recommend to the President the inclusion of these masks in the list of basic or prime goods. When approved, the NPCC through the recommendation of the DOH and consultation with relevant stakeholders can set an SRP, if found necessary.

Since stocks of the medical masks are depleted, the DTI talked with local suppliers and major drug store chains such as Mercury Drug, Watsons, and Southstar Drug, to ensure that they immediately restock and ensure constant availability of supply in their branches, especially those located in the affected areas.

At the interim, current inventory in their branches and warehouses in non-affected areas will be distributed to their stores in CALABARZON and Metro Manila while waiting for the arrival of new stocks. Foreign suppliers were also contacted by the DTI to immediately send stocks to the country.

In an earlier advisory, the DTI reminds the retailers to refrain from unreasonably increasing the prices of N95, surgical, and other similar masks. Prices of manufactured basic and prime goods shall likewise remain unchanged as of the published 30 September 2019 DTI Suggested Retail Price Bulletin.

Those found to have committed profiteering or any form of illegal act will be filed with appropriate administrative and criminal charges and will be dealt with the fullest extent of the law.

Report overpricing and any other illegal act of price manipulation through the One-DTI (1-384) Hotline or send an email to

Eduard Folayang Begins Another Run at the Lightweight World Title in Manila this January

Filipino martial arts veteran and two-time ONE Lightweight World Champion Eduard “Landslide” Folayang is confident he has enough left in the tank to bag another shot at the title this year.

The Team Lakay stalwart succumbed the lightweight belt in Tokyo in early 2019, falling to rival Shinya Aoki via first-round submission at ONE: A NEW ERA. It was a painful setback, but did little to deter Folayang’s fighting spirit.

This year, Folayang vows to return as a better competitor, and show fans he has what it takes to be champion again.

“2019 has been an absolute roller coaster ride for me,” Folayang said.

“I started the year off as champion but fell short of victory against Shinya [Aoki] in Tokyo. That’s a loss that I learned a lot from and it was a very tough experience to deal with. I can honestly say however that I am a much better martial artist because of it.”

Apart from taking on the legendary Aoki, Folayang also got the opportunity to challenge multiple-time lightweight champion Eddie “The Underground King” Alvarez, a more than recognizable name in the mixed martial arts ecosphere.

Despite dominating Alvarez in the early going however, Alvarez turned the corner and scored a come-from-behind victory on the strength of his wrestling and submission skills. The American secured a rear-naked choke midway through the first round, earning a spot in the ONE Lightweight Grand Prix Championship Final, which he eventually relinquished due to injury.

Although it was another painful setback, Folayang realizes the value of facing an American icon.

“After facing Eddie Alvarez of course, it was another learning experience for me,” Folayang said.

“Being able to face one of the best fighters in the world, who is a former UFC and Bellator World Champion, it was a huge honor. I feel like I was winning that fight, and then one mistake and I’m on the losing end. I won’t make that same mistake again next time.”

For Folayang to be able to return to title contention, he has to be perfect to start the year. He believes he has to turn in inspiring performances that will catapult him back up the rankings, starting with his first bout of 2020.

Folayang is scheduled to face Pakistan’s Ahmed “The Wolverine” Mujtaba at ONE: FIRE & FURY, set for the Mall of Asia Arena in Manila on Friday, 31 January. In this bout, Folayang vows to showcase his overall improvements, and that he learned valuable lessons in the past year.

“As a martial artist, I’m always learning and growing,” Folayang concluded.

“I still feel like I’m at the top of my division, and I want to get back in contention in 2020. The lightweight division is one of the toughest in ONE Championship, and I want to reclaim the title again for my Filipino fans. I’m hungry as ever for victory. I will be back on top. It’s all about that mindset. With the help of God, I’ll be champion again.”
