Filinvest Mimosa+ Drives Growth Momentum in the North

As it breathes new life to Clark, Pampanga, Filinvest Mimosa+ Leisure City has been changing and invigorating the business and leisure landscape in the north with a progressive redevelopment masterplan. Integral to this plan is its 3.6-hectare sustainable office campus—dubbed Workplus—set amidst lush greeneries that is conducive for both work and wellness.

Being at the forefront of Filinvest Mimosa+’s vision to elevate the business industry in Clark, six office buildings are set to rise in Workplus within the next six years. Currently, two office buildings—called 1 Workplus and 2 Workplus—are already complete and ready to welcome corporations that are looking to expand their business in Central Luzon. This is another proof of the dynamism that Filinvest has been injecting into the Mimosa+ estate.

“With the opening of Workplus, we aim to not only bring in more business to Clark, but to also help increase employment in Pampanga,” notes Filinvest Cyberzone’s first vice president Janette Cordero.

With a total gross floor area of over 110,000 square meters and total gross leasable area of approximately 100,000 square meters, all Workplus buildings come equipped with fibre optic facilities that are best suited for business process outsourcing (BPO), information technology (IT), and knowledge-based companies, with ample surface and podium parking areas available. Furthermore, each structure strictly follows the green building guidelines of Clark Development Corporation to promote corporate social responsibility and true green living.

Also of particular note is how the office campus is filled with full grown Acacia trees and rich flora. Cognizant of this, Filinvest Mimosa+ collaborated with renowned designer firm H1 Architecture to devise an office campus master plan that is conscious of the natural landscape, where the positioning of the buildings, for example, was carefully composed in such a way that it moves around and blends with the trees. This creates a healthy, vibrant atmosphere that seamlessly integrates the landscape with the buildings’ architectural design.

Moreover, the building design features a "glass belt"—reflecting the landscape surrounding it from the outside—that breaks the volume and creates a sense of individuality in each of the buildings.

Other factors that set Workplus apart are the leisure destinations within Filinvest Mimosa+—the Quest Hotel and Conference Center-Clark, which is currently undergoing renovations to better serve both short- and long-staying guests, and the 150-hectare Mimosa Golf Course, which is the centerpiece that draws a steady stream of guests to the estate.

Filinvest Mimosa+ takes pride in a 201-hectare expanse of lush landscaping with an abundance of mature trees. Awarded with a long-term 50-year lease, the Filinvest Group continues to fulfill its plans of redeveloping the estate as it takes into account four major components: leisure, business, residential, and nature. In addition to the office campus, its vision includes a lifestyle mall and an al fresco retail strip, which will soon be home to various boutiques and unique dining concepts. Then, there’s the Events Grounds and an Events Pavillion for MICE (meetings, incentives, conferences, and events) and a residential phase that will offer the most beautiful countryside living spaces.

With all these dynamic developments, together with the recent uptick in BPO property demand, Workplus in Filinvest Mimosa+ is well-poised to lead the growth charge in the north, anchored on the vision set forth by the Filinvest Group: an integrated, balanced, and eco-centric masterplanned community.

PH receives USD 185.7M-worth of investments from SG

The Philippines (PH) continues to be an investment destination for Singaporean companies as USD 185.7 million-worth of investment pledges providing 1,920 job opportunities were signed at the sidelines of the 32nd Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit on 28 April 2018.

The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) reported that the investment pledges will cover collaborative works on aviation, solutions for sustainable urbanization, as well as development of marine renewable energy, packaging, film manufacturing, information, communications technology, financial technology, water solutions, prefabricated projects, food, and blockchain technology.

“With our robust bilateral trade and investments ties, we are confident that these new business agreements will even deepen our relationship further. These will push Philippine-Singapore trade engagement to even greater heights,” said President Rodrigo Roa Duterte.

“With these investments coming in, I am fulfilling a personal commitment to my countrymen to bring them more job opportunities. That’s why I am appreciative of your investment in the Philippines. I promise you that when you invest in the Philippines, we will ensure that your investments will be protected,” the President added.

The President witnessed the presentation of six Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) and four Letters of Intent (LOI) signed between the PH business delegation—composed of Filinvest Development Corporation, Everhydro Corporation, Cebu Air, Inc., ICS ICT Support Service Corporation, Ascent Solutions Philippines Inc., and Jollibee Foods Corporation—and Singaporean companies, including Keppel Corporation, OceanPixel, SIA Engineering Company Limited, Hitachi Asia Ltd., Robin Village International Pte. Ltd., Ascent Solutions Pte. Ltd., and Golden Beeworks Pte. Ltd.

Trade and Industry Secretary Ramon Lopez also signed an LOI with the ASEAN Business Advisory Council Chairman Robert Yap, which involves a feasibility study on a suitable site for the implementation of a free online marketplace, SGConnect™ legacy project.

Sec. Lopez also signed an LOI with Lepack Packaging Pte. Ltd. Director Lim Seong Nam, which will explore opportunities to help and assist micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) by developing innovative packaging.

In 2017, Singapore (SG) was PH’s 6th trading partner, 5th export market, and 7th import supplier with total bilateral trade valued at USD 9.34 billion. Exports of semiconductor devices manufactured on consignment basis also boosted PH export to SG by 1.16% in 2017.

Likewise, a significant growth of 378% (or Php 2.13 billion in 2017 from Php 444 million in 2016) approved investments from SG was noted in electricity, gas, steam, and air conditioning supply industry.

Meanwhile, Secretary Lopez encouraged SG’s business community to join PH’s growth story by locating and expanding their businesses in the country.

“There are enormous opportunities for companies partnering with Philippines as the country is on its economic breakout,” said Sec. Lopez.

"The 6.7% GDP growth, increasing consumer base, and highly-skilled and young workforce complement the various reforms and infrastructure programs of the government, as well as new policies in enhancing business environment and competitiveness,” Sec. Lopez added.

The trade chief also highlighted PH’s preferential agreements and market access to Europe, the European Union and United States.

“We are a strategic partner as the Philippines is located at the crossroads of international shipping and airlines, and a natural gateway to the East Asian economies. With our preferential agreements to big economies, we can also provide access to the large US and EU markets,” Sec. Lopez concluded.

Halal Board to Unveil 1st PH Halal Export Develepment and Promotion Road Map

THE Philippine Halal Export Development and Promotion Board, composed of nine government agencies led by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), is set to unveil the comprehensive Philippine Halal Export Development and Promotion Strategic Road Map as it holds the first-ever Philippine National Halal Conference on May 2 and 3 in Davao City with the theme “Towards Making the Philippines a Respectable Player in the Global Halal Ecosystem.”

The strategic road map includes the launch of the approved Philippine National Halal Certification Scheme and the Accreditation Guidelines, two of the most important components of the PH strategic roadmap for the Philippines to be recognized as a major player in the global halal ecosystem.

The conference will also gather some of the major Halal global players to share their experiences and best practices in establishing a respectable and sustainable Halal ecosystem in their respective countries through lecture sessions.

Also happening during the conference is the Assembly of the Philippine Muslim Religious Scholars, where information sessions and lectures on development of the Philippine halal export industry in line with the aspect of the Sharia or Islamic law will be conducted.

According to DTI-EMB, as the Philippines opens its door for the global Halal market, it also widens its horizon as it pursues cooperation from the global halal community.

During the sixth Halal Export Board meeting held on March 21 this year, the Board emphasized the need for the Philippine standard-setting bodies, such as the DTI, the Department of Agriculture and the Department of Health to develop the necessary standards for Philippine Halal to be recognized in the global halal ecosystem.

“With the first Philippine National Halal Conference, we are eyeing heightened collaboration among key stakeholders and institutions that will work together in the promotion and development of the Philippine Halal exports sector,” said DTI Trade and Investments Promotion Group Assistant Secretary Abdulgani Macatoman.

In April last year, the Philippines, represented by DTI Secretary Ramon M. Lopez, and Brunei Darussalam, represented by Pehin Dato Dr.  Mohammad Yasmin Umar, the minister of Energy and Industry at the Prime Minister’s Office, signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on the Halal Industry and Halal Export Development and Promotion.

The Philippines also signed a membership with the International Halal Accreditation Forum in December 2017. IHAF is an independent, non-government network of accreditation entities that are mandated to enforce halal standards in their countries and territories. The Philippine affiliation to IHAF is expected to pave the way for the entry and acceptance of Philippine halal-certified products to the member markets of the organization.

A similar instrument was forged between the Philippine Accreditation Bureau of the DTI and the United Arab Emirates Standardization and Metrology Authority of the UAE government on mutual recognition for Halal accreditation last February 2018 in Dubai.

Over 350 participants composed of Philippine micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) with halal-certified products and services, including travel and tourism services sector; representative from government agencies; Philippine halal certification bodies; academe; Muslim and interested non-Muslim consumers; Muslim religious groups; concerned civil society groups; international major halal players; and other stakeholders are expected to attend the event.

"The Business of Football - Philippines" Set for May 18 at New World Hotel in Makati

Riding on the heels of the historic Asian Cup 2019 qualification the Philippine Men’s National Team, more popularly known as The Azkals, the Philippines is set as the perfect venue for the upcoming “The Business of Football - Philippines” one-day Conference.

The event is organized by MMC Sportz Asia, best known for delivering the high-caliber annual SPIA Asia - Asia’s Sports Industry Awards & Conference (www.spiaasia.com), recognizing and celebrating Asia’s top achievers within the sports industry.

“The Business of Football – Philippines,” sanctioned by the Philippine Football Federation (PFF), is the first of its kind to take place in the country on 18 May 2018, from 10am to 5pm at the New World Hotel Makati.

The one-day Summit will bring together all the key stakeholders of the football community in the Philippines from the rights holders, football clubs, agencies, brands, media, retail, real estate, and of course, the fans.  The overall objective is to educate and to discuss the current state of football in the Philippines, with the goal of being able to determine the strategy to make it the biggest spectator sport in the country.

“There is so much un-tapped potential in the football-business in the Philippines, that we felt like it is time to bring all the key stakeholders together in one room, and to discuss the state of the game, and how we can develop the sport in the Philippines,” states Eric M. Gottschalk, CEO of MMC Sportz Asia Inc., the organizer of the conference.

“The inauguration of the professional football league in 2017 and the recent international successes of both the men’s and the women’s national football teams should be a springboard for the sport to finally take off in a basketball dominated country.  But we noticed that the key stakeholders are still adapting a “wait-and-see” approach.” continues Gottschalk, “private investment is needed in sports infrastructure, retailers need to offer a wider range of equipment options to the participants, and the media needs to make football a regular news feature.  We are proud to launch this first get-together of the “Who is Who” in Philippines football with the overall aim to listen and learn about the vision for football in the country from a professional point of view, delivered by our partners from the AFC, PFF, PFL, La Liga, and supported by research and analytics from Dentsu, and SMG Insight.  We are excited to bring this event to Manila, and hoping for it to impact the development of football in the Philippines, and for it to become a regular feature on the annual sports events calendar.”

Philippine Azkals Team Manager Dan Palami says, "The Business of Football - Philippines, is timely, since it gathers all the relevant stakeholders in Philippine football in one venue.  It is high time we get our act together, and elevate the level of the sport, in time for the upcoming Asian Cup 2019.  Wherein the country, and the Philippine Azkals will have the opportunity to make a mark, and create history in the international football scene."

The conference will cover topics such as Football in South East Asia, State of Football in the Philippines, Why Brands Should Get Involved, Developing Football in Asia, Asian Cup 2019, Youth Academies, among others.

The event will also feature a Job Fair, wherein participants can explore careers in football, learn from industry leaders, and get to network with key executives in the industry.

DTI Readies Interventions to Lessen Impact of Boracay Island Closure

The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) will assist affected workers and displaced micro, small and medium entrepreneurs to lessen the impact of the the six-month closure order of Boracay Island in Malay, Aklan.

DTI Regional Operations Group Undersecretary Zenaida Maglaya said that the agency has identified initiatives to cushion the impact to workers and entrepreneurs of the island’s shutdown on April 26.

“We recognize the importance of Boracay Island to our local entrepreneurs there. However, we would also like to ensure that the island maintain its pristine condition, which is why we have identified programs that will help local entrepreneurs,” Maglaya said.

DTI, a member of the Working Group on employment and livelihood and the lead agency in the establishment of the Operations Center/ One-Stop Shop in Boracay Island, has identified activities that may provide workers alternative income and other alternative markets for the MSMEs.

While the island is closed to tourists, MSMEs selling to Boracay will be given the chance to continue their businesses as DTI identifies alternative market outlets in nearby resorts and Pasalubong Centers.

Aside from these, the DTI will launch the Negosyo Serbisyo sa Barangay and come up with trainings, coaching and mentoring on business opportunities, online marketing seminar, and micro loans through the Pondo para sa Pagbagago at Pag-asenso (P3), among others.
