The Reno Collective Embraces being Storymakers
The Reno Series values creativity and self-expression through the stories that make up our everyday lives, brought to life by storymakers that make up The Reno Collective. Alongside the Reno2 Series Launch, notable vloggers and content creators were introduced as the official brand ambassadors: Actors Gabbi Garcia and Mikael Daez, fashion and lifestyle personality Laureen Uy, and globe-trotting adventurer Daniel Marsh. These well known icons’ content may differ in theme, but they all share the same goal of creative self-expression in the form of videography, which then inspires others to embrace being a storymaker. The OPPO Reno2 Series’ newest innovation enables one to widen horizons, discover new possibilities, and express one’s self with no reservations.
With a mix of old and new storymakers onboarded, OPPO also launched the “100 Moments” digital campaign that gives a glimpse of 100 diverse stories, all creatively captured with the Reno2. Each distinct story is open for viewing online through the hashtag #AnyoneIsAStorymaker.
The Evolution of Phone Videography with the new OPPO Reno2
More people are seeing the vast potential behind videos as a form of expression nowadays. We also see this with the rise of popular platforms such as Youtube, Instagram, and TikTok, as well as the increased number of videos being churned out online. Videos speak volumes in creating stories, and with smartphones now being an extension to one’s lifestyle, people are more open to sharing stories and expressing creativity through videos seamlessly captured with their smartphones.
With the advent of the rise of video, the OPPO Reno2 takes things up a notch to better capture video content. The Reno2 series was especially designed to allow its users to help budding content creators become more effective storymakers. Thanks to the smartphone’s enhanced Quad Rear Camera consisting of a 48MP main camera, an 8MP wide angle lens, a 13MP telephoto lens, and a 2MP mono lens, supported by 5x Hybrid Zoom and up to 20x digital zoom and the Ultra Wide Angle lens. The Reno2 offers 116° Ultra-Wide Angle view, bringing your stories to life through boundless landscapes day or night. The series enables its users to capture long-distance scenarios in ultra-high quality imaging, whether it be taking videos of your favorite performers at a concert or capturing breathtaking scenery.
The Reno2’s Ultra Steady Mode feature is designed to guarantee stable and smooth videos in the midst of extremely shaky situations. The series is equipped with Optical Image Stabilization and a 60 fps frame rate to compensate for those shaky shots and enhance image stabilization, fluency, and overall image quality. A true testament of eliminating boundaries as you better express yourself.
The Reno2 is equipped with the Ultra Dark Mode, which produces crisp and clear shots even during low light conditions, capable of picking up details invisible to the human eye.
Adding to the Reno2 camera’s roster of video-focused features are the Bokeh Effect Video that adds depth, the Background Noise Reduction feature that cuts out background noise to make the subject’s sounds more focused, and the Audio Zoom feature that allows one to amplify the sound of a subject while zooming in on it.
The upgraded VOOC 3.0 flash charging technology and a large-capacity 4,000 mAh battery will enable its users to a more enjoyable and longer experience. It is also powered by Hyper Boost 2.0, Frame Boost, and Touch Boost to provide a smooth user experience while running on ColorOS 6.1 based on Android 9.0. You can enjoy the immersive video experience on the Reno2’s 6.5” AMOLED full screen made from durable 6th Generation Corning® Gorilla® Glass and the Dolby ATMOS feature to experience surround sound effects when using a headset.
The Reno2 series comes in colorways inspired by nature: options for Reno2 are Sunset Pink and Luminous Black, while Sky White and Lake Green for Reno2 F.
Reno2 F: the next generation of the OPPO F series
With the objective of boosting the OPPO F series’ features, the brand introduced the Reno2 F equipped with a 48MP Quad Rear camera that comes with the Ultra Night Mode 2.0, which offers greater adaptability to a wider range of lighting intensity and optimized night shooting. Amplifying this is the Atmosphere Light for an optimized experience when using the front camera to take selfies efficiently. Trade Undersecretary Blesila Lantayona for Regional Operations Group expressed her full support to the Philippine Cacao Industry Council and Cacao Industry Development Association in bolstering the government’s efforts in the sustainable development of Philippine Cacao Industry during the opening of Kakao Konek 2019, the country’s biggest annual event of the cacao and chocolate industry, last October 17 at SMX Convention Center, Davao City. This year’s Kakao Konek highlighted the various locally-made cocoa and chocolate products across the country. The event also conducted technical sessions and discussions about cacao science and agronomy with local resource persons as well as cacao experts from the other countries.
Rene “The Challenger” Catalan’s long wait for a shot at the title will come to an end on November 8 as he challenges Joshua “The Passion” Pacio for his ONE Strawweight World Championship.
The veteran Catalan knows that opportunities like this are hard to come by, and he will not let his chance at glory slip at the Mall of Asia Arena in Manila, Philippines, when he takes on Pacio in the main event of ONE: MASTERS OF FATE.
“I’m one hundred percent focused on getting this belt,” Catalan said.
“It’s every fighter’s dream to become a World Champion. I’m hungry and determined to win the title.”
Pacio lost and regained the title in 2019, and before the year ends, he will put it on the line one more time.
For “The Passion”, it’s a chance to further legitimize his claim to the strawweight throne. For Catalan, it presents an opportunity to realize a lifelong dream. The 40-year-old Filipino knows Pacio is beatable, and it all depends on how he executes on fight night.
“Joshua Pacio is only human,” Catalan said.
“Just like every other fighter, he has his strengths and weaknesses. We’re going to try and deal with that in the fight. It all comes down to the game plan we have heading into this. It’s going to be an exciting contest.”
No matter the opponent, there is one thing Catalan will always be proud of and that’s representing his home country on the global stage of competition. He did so in Wushu as an amateur, and continues to do so even now as a professional.
For Catalan, fighting for the Philippines invokes in him a sense of pride and honor.
“I love my country and it is always an honor to represent the Philippines,” Catalan said.
“I’ve worn the flag for most of my athletic career, and I have always considered it a privilege. Through competing, I aim to show everyone the principles of martial arts. I am not just fighting for my team, but also for the glory of my almighty God.”
With both Catalan and Pacio being Wushu striking specialists, the elder athlete believes that this encounter will be brief. However, as a fighter with veteran experience, Catalan knows he must prepare for all scenarios, and be ready for wherever the action takes him.
No one can predict exactly when and how the bout will end, but Catalan says fans should expect an action-packed showdown between two top strawweights.
“Given our styles, it’s not hard to predict this fight will end within the distance,” Catalan concluded.
“But I’m training and preparing to go all five rounds to win a decision if necessary. As a fighter, you have to be prepared for all scenarios.”
PH Bamboo Industry Development Council Identifies New Bamboo Roadmap Strategies to Create more Jobs, Attract Investments
The Philippine Bamboo Industry Development Council (PBIDC) boosts its efforts in addressing the challenges of the country’s bamboo industry. PBIDC Chairman and Department of Trade and Industry Secretary Ramon Lopez shared that the council has identified new approaches and strategies to grow the industry that will lead to investments and job creation.
“We are updating our strategies and expanding the list of government agencies as well as private sector partners to be involved in the development of this industry. It will be a whole-of-nation approach to ensure sustainable progress. We are also working closely with long-time bamboo industry advocates House Deputy Speaker Deogracias Victor DV Savellano and the Philippine Chamber of Mines official Atty. Leo Dominguez,” said Sec. Lopez.
During the council meeting on 16 October 2019, strategies were set such as identification of more land suitable for bamboo plantation; sourcing of right species and planting materials; propagation strategies; setting up of treatment facilities; product development assistance; exploration on the potentials of bamboo fiber as well as its byproducts; and inclusion of bamboo in crop insurance. The council is also looking at establishing bamboo industries at the barangay level to provide jobs and business opportunities in the countryside.
The inclusion of the Department of National Defense (DND), Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), State Universities and Colleges (SUCs), Commission on Higher Education (CHED), Climate Change Commission, as well as National Commission on Indigenous People (NCIP) as partner agencies were discussed.
DTI is currently assessing its 101 Shared Service Facilities (SSF) on bamboo processing nationwide. The agency is also consolidating bamboo's market potentials. It will likewise tap the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) for skills development, training, and scholarships on bamboo production and processing. Meanwhile, the DTI-Bureau of Philippine Standards will work on setting up standards for bamboo products.
“The goal is to make the development of the bamboo industry more inclusive. Encourage farmers to plant bamboo and provide economic activities in their communities,” Sec. Lopez added.
As one of its initiatives, the PBIDC together with industry partners showcase high-value bamboo-made products at the ongoing Manila FAME. Contemporary designs of Filipino bamboo manufacturers and artisans are featured in the premiere lifestyle exhibitions in Asia Pacific.

An unwavering passion for dancing is what's keeping Ballet Manila, the most solidly trained classical ballet company in the Philippines, resilient and strong after the Star City complex, which housed both Aliw and Star Theaters, recently was razed by fire.
Ballet Manila was all set to stage a breathtaking performance of Giselle as part of its 24th season when Aliw Theater, the original venue of the show and the dance company's home for nearly 20 years, was damaged in the fire.
With the theme park and theaters gutted by fire, many thought that it was the end for the company's 24th season, but Ballet Manila CEO and artistic director Lisa Macuja Elizalde said that they will dance, no matter what.
Macuja Elizalde has expressed her gratitude to the overwhelming outpouring of support and assistance to Ballet Manila. She said that the help Ballet Manila got from the performing arts community enabled them to stage Giselle in a different venue and date.
Ballet Manila's production of Giselle will now be at the CCP Main Theater on October 17, Thursday at 8:00 PM. Tickets for the original dates will be honored, and refunds are also available for those who cannot make it to the new play date.
Despite what happened, the dance company assures that Giselle will still be as sensational as they have originally planned. Fans will still get to witness the timeless tale that has all the melodramatic elements of first love, heartbreak, death, and love beyond death.
To create the perfect atmosphere and intensify the emotional impact, Giselle will have live music accompaniment from the Manila Symphony Orchestra, one of Asia’s first symphony orchestras. The orchestra will be conducted by Alexander Vikulov who has been the music director of Ballet Manila for many years. Vikulov is also a conductor at the Mariinsky Theater of Russia and has appeared at prominent opera houses including the Wiener Staatsoper in Austria and the Teatro Regio di Torino in Italy.
Ballet Manila is one of the pillars of Philippine Ballet. You can show your support by buying tickets to Giselle by visiting any Ticketworld outlet, calling 8891 9999, or going to www.ticketworld.com.ph. Rizal Commercial Banking Corporation (RCBC) has taken the first steps to bringing its digital financial inclusion initiative to grassroots communities as it gets the support and commitment of Liga ng mga Barangay sa Pilipinas (LNB).
The LNB led by National President Eden Pineda, presented its national executive board resolution stating that the organization is adopting DiskarTech: Kasosyo sa Asenso as a growth enabler and capacity-building measure for microenterprises in every barangay and its constituents. DiskarTech is a financial inclusion accelerator platform by RCBC that aims to stimulate economic activity to help uplift the unbanked and underserved Filipinos.
The strategic collaboration will focus on accelerating financial literacy, promoting inclusive digital economy, and empowering local communities. This supports the government digitalization efforts aligned with President Duterte’s 10-point economic agenda on investing on human capital development, and promoting technology and innovation for self-sustaining and inclusive development towards poverty alleviation.
LNB is the official organization of over 42,000 barangays throughout the country. It is committed to providing avenues and assistance to promote welfare and ensure success of the national government’s National Strategy for Financial Inclusion and National Retail Payments System.
“This financial inclusion accelerator will be pervasive throughout the country as it would address the huge gaps in financial services while reducing the number of unbanked and underserved communities,” said RCBC Executive Vice President and Chief Innovation and Inclusion Officer Lito Villanueva.
By adopting DiskarTech, LNB will be taking an active role in leading workshops and programs on financial education and literacy with the assistance of the DiskarTech National Coordinating Team. They will also be engaging its member municipalities to appoint their own DiskarTech Community Leader (DCL) who will facilitate participation of residents and entrepreneurs in the program.
“DiskarTech will pave the way for the real transformation of our communities nationwide as it would provide opportunities to our constituents, giving them the chance to be part of the formal financial system through technology,” said Liga ng mga Barangay National President Eden Pineda.
In an effort to encourage economic activity, partner sari-sari stores or microenterprises will also be identified as Barangay Digital Community Centers (BDCCs) to serve as the go-to hub of every resident for their financial needs - whether it’s paying bills, depositing savings to their accounts, buying micro insurance or sending money to their loved ones.
With this, RCBC hopes to turbocharge the growth of digital financial transactions in the country from the current one percent to a minimum of twenty percent by next year. Through DiskarTech, this initiaitve hopes to bring to realization the vision of Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas of creating a cash-lite and digital economy for greater efficiency, security, interoperability, and affordability.
Joining LNB and 20 other existing partners, a number of private organizations have also signed up recently to join the DiskarTech financial inclusion ecosystem to benefit their respective constituents. These partners include Ka-Entrep Micro and Small Entrepreneurs Organization of the Philippines, Bangko Pangasinan, and Rizal Microbank, among others.
Rural bank Bangko Pangasinan and thrift bank Rizal Microbank also share how DiskarTech would empower the agriculture sector with access to basic financial needs and microfinance loans.
“DiskarTech is an open platform and the way it works is that banks like us can communicate with other banks. Similar to an open banking system, there will be no barriers and it will become interoperable to make it easier to reach and assist the underserved market,” said Gregory De Guzman, Bangko Pangasinan president and COO.
Joseph Lumain, Strategic Partnerships and Special Initiatives head at Rizal Microbank, agrees that DiskarTech will be an effective way to reach numerous individuals at the same time. “Basically, what DiskarTech is offering are the basic services of a bank through digital means. And in an era where almost everyone is tech-savvy, DiskarTech can be the perfect solution to present financial services in an understandable way, and eventually helping answer the issue of financial inclusion.”

For the First Time, Top-Ranked NCAA Division 1 Golf Coaches in Manila to Scout Junior Golfing Talent
Junior golfers in the Philippines will get a chance this December to showcase their game and talent and possibly get recruited to some of the best universities in the world!
DreamBig Events, a sports events company dedicated to providing a positive, motivating and challenging platform for young athletes living in Asia to improve their sporting skills is bringing world-class golf coaches for the first time in Asia. Its Gold Series Golf Camp, headlined as The Road To U.S. College Golf, is open to junior golfers aged 12 to 18 years old and will be held at the Orchard Golf & Country Club on December 17 and 18, 2019.
Golf Coaches from topmost schools in the US NCAA Division 1 – UCLA (University of California – Los Angeles), Columbia University and UC Berkeley – will run the two-day golf clinic while actively watching the young golfers participate in the 2-day FCG Golf Tournament.
At the camp, campers will experience guided range and short game sessions that will allow them to sharpen their practice and pre-tournament routines. They will be given instruction that will help them expand their course management skills and prepare them for competition, as well as expose them to US coaching styles and competition at a higher level. The camp is limited to 30 participants only to enable personalized and customized instruction for each athlete.
“This is an exceptional opportunity for young golfers to interact with world-class coaches and glimpse the future of how their game can evolve and take them to places they’ve never been before. Learning under these top-calibre coaches is a privilege that only a few can experience, and to have them right here in Manila to train and teach them is a big advantage in terms of savings on time and travel expenses,” said Akshay Maliwal, Founder and CEO of DreamBig Events.
Maliwal explained that the camp opens up the pathway to college golf in the U.S., which in turn will help athletes develop their athleticism and prepare them to compete on the world stage while they become a legitimate part of the US College athletics ecosystem.
“These camps do not just hone young athletes’ skills, they introduce and familiarize athletes with the college recruiting process and lets them experience, even for two days, a day in the life of a college athlete at a top academic and athletic university,” Maliwal added.
DreamBig Events has been working with coaches from top NCAA Division 1 and Division 3 universities such as Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Columbia, UC Berkeley, UCLA, University of Pennsylvania, Brown, New York University, Tufts and Carnegie Mellon University, Claremont-Mckenna, Johns Hopkins University, among others, for the last three years.
“Asia, the Philippines in particular, is rich in golfing talent that only needs to be discovered and honed. All young talents need is one big break to change their lives and put this region on the world map of golf. It all begins in camps like these. And because our camps offer a wide array of activities, campers have fun as they learn all the good stuff,” Maliwal said.
