DTI-EMB Expands Exports to India

In a bid to further strengthen Philippine exports by tapping into non-traditional markets, the Department of Trade and Industry - Export Marketing Bureau (DTI-EMB), in collaboration with the Philippine Trade and Investment Center (PTIC) and the Philippine Embassy in New Delhi, conducted an Outbound Business Matching Mission (OBMM) to Mumbai, India on August 28 - 31, 2019.

The DTI-EMB continues its active engagement with the Philippines’ South Asian neighbors, particularly in India. The said country is among the fastest growing major economies in the world and is expected to become the third largest consumer economy by 2025. Aside from being one of the most inhabited nations, India’s favorable demographics make it an ideal trading partner – increasing young population, expanding middle-class, and rising income levels.

The OBMM to Mumbai was participated by Filipino companies from the areas of fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) such as packaged foods and snacks, beverages, personal care products, and pharmaceuticals, all of which were identified to have great potential in the Indian market.

“We are intensifying our efforts to enhance the country’s bilateral trade with India by exporting quality Philippine products and services to this booming market through this mission,” DTI-Trade Promotions Group (TPG) Undersecretary Abdulgani M. Macatoman said.

The mission aimed to directly link Filipino exporters with potential business partners in the financial capital of India and pursue further opportunities particularly under the ASEAN-India Free Trade Agreement (AIFTA). This year's initiative was a follow-through of the first business mission to New Delhi in 2017.

Philippine Ambassador to India, H.E. Ramon S. Bagatsing, Jr. received the delegation led by DTI-EMB Assistant Director Agnes Perpetua R. Legaspi. He expressed his full support for programs that will advance Philippines’ trade interests and boost the country’s economic ties with India.

During the mission, the delegation participated in business-to-business (B2B) meetings with the members of various trade associations in India including the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FICCI), All India Association of Industries (AIAI), and World Trade Center (WTC) Mumbai.

A Trabaho, Negosyo, Kabuhayan (TNK) seminar was also organized which allowed the delegation to link with the Filipino community in Mumbai for potential collaboration and business expansion. Commercial Attaché Jeremiah C. Reyes endorsed the delegation as he urged Filipinos in Mumbai to look for business opportunities and adopt the entrepreneurial mindset.

The OBMM also coincided with the 14th edition of India's biggest food and beverage exhibition, the Annapoorna ANUFOOD India. The delegation took the opportunity to observe, network with Indian companies, and generate business leads during the event.

“This business mission to India is a testimony of DTI-EMB’s commitment to diversify our exports to non-traditional markets. Barely two weeks after the mission, we already received reports from our participants on the developments in their negotiations with prospective buyers from India. We will continue to monitor the progress and be in full support of our exporters,” DTI EMB Assistant Director Agnes Legaspi said.

In 2018, India was the 15th trading partner of the Philippines, 17th export market, and 14th import supplier. The total bilateral trade was valued at US$2.37 billion.

MICHELIN TO MAKE PLAYSTATION’S GRAN TURISMO SPORT EVEN MORE GRIPPING FOR GAMERS

Michelin Chief Representative to the Philippines Michael Nunag announced today that PlayStation has selected Michelin as “official tire technology partner” for its Gran Turismo franchise, the best and most authentic driving game.

Under the multi-year agreement, Michelin becomes “official tire supplier” of FIA Certified Gran Turismo Championships, with Michelin-branded tires featured in the game during its third World Tour live event also in progress at PlayStation Theater throughout the weekend.

The relationship begins by increasing Michelin’s visibility through free downloadable content on Gran Turismo Sport available to users by October 2019. The Michelin-themed download will feature for the first time:
A new Michelin section on the Gran Turismo Sport “Brand Central” virtual museum, which introduces players to Michelin’s deep history in global motorsports, performance and innovation.

Tire technology by Michelin available in the “Tuning” section of Gran Turismo Sport, applicable to the game’s established hard, medium and soft formats.
On-track branding elements and scenography from many of the world’s most celebrated motorsports competitions and venues.

In 1895, the Michelin brothers entered a purpose-built car in the Paris-Bordeaux-Paris motor race to prove the performance of air-filled tires. Since that storied race, Michelin has achieved a record of innovation and ultra-high performance in the most demanding and celebrated racing competitions around the world, including 22 consecutive overall wins at the iconic 24 Hours of Le Mans and more than 330 FIA World Rally Championship victories.

Through racing series such as FIA World Endurance Championship, FIA World Rally Championship, FIA Formula E and International Motor Sports Association series in the U.S., Michelin uses motorsports as a laboratory to collect vast amounts of real-world data that power its industry-leading models and simulators for tire development. Tire technologies proven on the track eventually transfer to road-going performance vehicles like many of those on screen in Gran Turismo.
Michelin will share this knowledge openly with Sony in the first co-development exchange of its kind, aiming to provide Gran Turismo players with a new dimension of strategy and competition linked to tire selection and performance, drawing ever closer to the pit-level decisions that race teams evaluate on every track.

“This relationship is a perfect match, connecting the most successful virtual driving experience with the global leader for high-performance tires,” said Scott Clark, executive vice president of the Americas region for Michelin Group, responsible for the Company’s global automotive, motorsports and experiences business segments.

“Michelin leads the industry in tire simulation,” Clark said. “Michelin develops and tunes virtual tires on virtual vehicles before the tires are even produced, with extremely accurate translation to real tires on real vehicles. Combining this technology with real motorsports data will enable Sony to bring more tire strategy into the game, and in the longer term, also helps more people understand the critical role that Michelin tires play in optimizing vehicle performance.”
“The FIA Certified Gran Turismo Championships is founded on a technical base established through 25 years of automotive physics simulation within Gran Turismo, and the unique automotive culture it has achieved over the years. With its passion for motorsports and solid engineering knowledge, having Michelin, the world’s leading tire brand, come on board as an official tire supplier of The Championships and technical partner helps us continue our vision of bridging the gap between virtual and real racing. The partnership also further highlights these events as the future of motorsports,” said Kazunori Yamauchi, series Producer and President of Polyphony Digital Inc.

Cleanance: The Ultimate Natural Answer to Oily, Sensitive Skin

Avène’s Cleanance product line -- with cleansers, moisturizers and more that are specifically developed for the needs of oily and acne-prone skin -- launched Shine-Free Week September 26 – October 2 at SM Makati.

Well-known dermatologist Dr. Karen Gavino-Dionisio of the Aesthetic Institute of the Philippines shared information about good skin cleansing habits and specific products that can help prevent breakouts, arrest excessive oil production and sooth sensitive skin.

All week long, consumers got educated on skin types, the importance of caring for oily skin, the do’s and don’ts of oily skin and what products to use for various skin needs as they went through various stations at the Cleanance booth to enjoy interactive experiences and win prizes.

Dr. Gavino-Dionisio said everyone dreams about having blemish-free skin, so people try different skin care regimens in the hope that they can minimize breakouts. Having sensitive skin compounds skin problems so finding a good skin care routine can be challenging because no one regimen works for everybody. Not just women but also men share the bane of oily, acne-prone skin.

Oily, acne-prone skin, said Dr. Gavino-Dionisio is a concern for 80% of adolescents and 40% of adults. Some of the risk factors of acne are genetic predisposition, hormonal changes, sun exposure, smoking, stress, diet and oily skin.

Sebum, a naturally-occurring substance produced by the body’s sebaceous glands is vital to keep hair and skin lubricated and protected. However, the over-production of sebum can cause various skin problems. Excess oil secretion leads to clogged pores that result in acne.

Dr. Gavino-Dionisio said acne comes in different forms and the appearance and severity of the skin condition differs from one person to another. If untreated, the condition can last for years. But meticulous caring, using the right products and treatment can control this complex skin dilemma. Treatments take an average of two months to work. Patience and perseverance are key.

Cleanance, a French brand that is part of the famous Eau Thermale Avéne line, is the ultimate solution to oily skin for both men and women. It is made especially for acne-prone skin with spots and blackheads because it has gentle and exclusive active ingredients that regulate sebum production without drying the skin and also reduces the appearance of blemishes, said Karihome Philippines Head of Marketing, Anna Karennina Talatala.

During Shine-Free Week, customers had access to Cleanance EXPERT—the full Cleanance line that was introduced at the interactive booths. When used as a team, the products help to carry out the Cleanance Skin Care Routine of Cleanse, Prepare, Reduce Blemishes and Protect.

Cleanance Cleansing Gel jumpstarts the cleansing process. It is soap-free but deeply cleanses the skin while maintaining the surface hydrolipidic film. It has the ability to control sebum production and keep breakouts at bay.

Cleanance Micellar Water can be used next to gently remove impurities from the face and eyes without the need to rinse.

Cleanance Mattifying Lotion, a two toner combination of gentle astringent and mattifying powders can next be used to purify skin and tighten pores without irritation for a clear, shine-free complexion.

Cleanance Skin Refining Serum, a super light, watery texture serum that gives skin a sensation of comfort and freshness without the unwanted stickiness, is also recommended.

To reduce blemishes and dark sports, Cleanance Expert Emulsion helps eliminate mild to moderate blemishes, spots and blackheads while Cleanance Spot Corrector, a pen that helps reduce the appearance of localized blemishes with daily use, can be used to touch up unwanted spots.

Lastly, there is Cleanance Solaire, which is specifically made for oily, acne-prone skin and gives a matte and shine-free finish that’s perfect for oily skin types. It provides high-sun protection of delicate facial skin with acne.

The Cleanance EXPERT-Complete Care line is formulated for sensitive skin because it has gentle and exclusive active ingredients to regulate sebum production without drying the skin, even as it reduces the appearance of blemishes. It contains Diolenyl that targets blemishes, X- Pressin that smoothens skin texture, Monolaurin that regulates sebum hyperproduction and Avéne Thermal Spring Water that soothes, softens and prevents skin irritation.

The Cleanance skincare line keeps skin purified, hydrated and mattified day after day.

“We are proud to be pioneering e-government by being one of the first to provide the public the experience of an end-to-end registration and making available various online payment options such as e-wallet, online banking or credit/debit cards. Eatlog Run 2019 Supports Local Egg Producers and Continues to Promote Egg Consumption.

In celebration of the World Egg Day, the Philippines participates in the annual commemoration via Eatlog Run 2019. Now on its fourth consecutive year, Eatlog Run continues to advocate one egg a day for good health.

Happening on October 13, 2019, at SM by the Bay in Pasay City, this family-oriented event brings in a new twist to its usual fun run as it introduces various egg dishes along the running course. This activity is a unique way to highlight egg as a healthy, nutritious yet affordable food choice.

Eggs are an inexpensive yet richest source of high-quality protein, other nutrients such as essential fatty acids, and micronutrients like vitamins and minerals, necessary for the body’s nutritional requirement.

One of the vitamins found in eggs is vitamin D. The egg yolk has high levels of vitamin D, that is required by the body to control the availability of calcium and phosphorous that strengthens the bones. Sufficient levels of vitamin D, likewise, provides immunity and cell repair to prevent stress and cancers.

Meanwhile, egg yolk’s bright color is an indicator that an egg comes from a healthy hen. Aside from that, it contains high levels of carotenoids, that acts as antioxidants.

DSM Nutritional Products, one of the major partners of Eatlog Run Year 4, is the global leader in quality vitamins. They offer Optimum Vitamin Nutrition (OVN), a DSM trademark for quality in terms of ensuring levels of recommended doses of vitamin requirement for animals are adequate, allowing the animal to function in basic growth, health maintenance, and production performance.

DSM supports in healthy egg production by providing not only the common form of Vitamin D3 but also the absorbable form of Hydroxy-D3 (HyD®) in egg layer diet nutrition. This delivers adequate levels in the systems of the animal that can be deposited to the egg. It also has nature identical Carophylls® that can help supplement carotenoids aside from the feedstuff.

Other than eggs’ many health benefits, this run aims to uplift and empower our local egg producers. With the support of Department of Agriculture (DA), Bureau of Animal Industry, Department of Science and Technology – Food And and Nutrition Research Institute, Philippine Association of Breeders and Layers, Inc. (PABLI), Philippine Egg Board Association, and DSM Nutritional Products, The Good Egg by Sarimanok; and other partners will help us better understand egg’s contribution to the food and poultry industry.

DSM Nutritional Products is recognized by the International Egg Commission (IEC) as the first sole Value Chain Partner for feed additives and sustainability. This partnership is responsible for supporting sustainable egg production by promoting it as the lowest contributor to environmental footprints while being an affordable, safe, and accessible form of nutrition to all. This collaboration requires international cooperation with global organization to deliver United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, that will benefit the need of the growing population for food and help drive positive development in the egg industry.

In a report done by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), it presented that egg-laying poultry segment has increased by 8.8 percent to 142, 010 metric tons in the first quarter of 2019. The three highest regions that contributed to the increase were the CALABARZON Region, Central Luzon, and Central Visayas. According to the PSA report, these three regions comprised 60.1 percent of the total chicken egg production of the country. Nonetheless, there is an impending need to address low egg consumption in the country.

Apart from increased consumption and awareness on eggs’ nutritional value, the proceeds of Eatlog Run will aid the following institutions – Save the Children and Armed Forces of the Philippines Educational Benefit System Office (AFP-EBSO), to continue their fight against malnutrition and send orphaned children to school.

Registration is now open for any of these categories with corresponding prices – 3K Solo for P600.00, 3K Egg Family or group of four for P2200.00, 5K Solo for P700.00, 5K Buddies Double Egg Yolk for P1300.00, and 10K Scrambled Solo for P800.00.

Race kit includes singlet, racebib, finisher’s medal, and lootbags. For 10K runners, they get additional race belt.

On-site registration takes place at selected Chris Sports branches – SM Mall of Asia, Glorietta, SM Megamall, and SM North EDSA. You can also do online registration by visiting www.goorahna.com.

Students are also encouraged to join. They can participate in this run for a cause for a discounted price of P150.00. They will receive racebib and medal.

The annual Eatlog Run in the Philippines has been recognized by the IEC, a global organization that represents the egg industry. The World Egg Day celebration falls every second week of October.
