SM Active Hub Leads the Philippine Pickleball Boom with 86 Courts Nationwide

MANILA, Philippines, May 2026 — The country’s fastest-growing sport has found its biggest stage at your most-loved SM Supermalls. Through SM Active Hub, SM continues to redefine malling by turning its spaces into a leading destination for sports, wellness, and community experiences.
Long before it became a retail trend, SM was already building sports and recreational spaces, evolving its malls into vibrant hubs where communities can move, connect, compete, and unwind.
In 2026 alone, SM Active Hub accelerated its massive nationwide expansion with the opening of new pickleball courts across key SM malls, bringing its total footprint to a staggering 86 pickleball courts in 29 malls nationwide — the largest mall-based pickleball network in the country today. From Luzon to Mindanao, SM continues to make the sport more accessible to Filipinos while cementing its position as the dominant and most expansive pickleball destination in the Philippines.
Beyond infrastructure, SM Active Hub has staged over 100 tournaments, open-plays, and clinics nationwide, cementing its role as one of the country’s most active tournament organizers. Headlining 2026 is the SM Pickleball Super Series Year 2 with Toby’s Sports, following successful legs at SM North EDSA and SM Mall of Asia, alongside the ongoing SM Active Hub Pickleball Trio Challenge across SM malls.
The season features qualifying legs in SM City Bicutan, SM City Sta. Mesa, SM City Santa Rosa, SM City Marikina, and SM Center Muntinlupa, culminating at Four E-Com Center, SM Active Hub’s newest six-court venue.
Further solidifying its position as the country’s premier pickleball hub, SM Active Hub has now welcomed nine international professional pickleball players to its courts, bringing world-class talent closer to Filipino communities.
Leading the 2026 roster is 16-year-old Filipino-Canadian phenom McKonner Dy, a Canadian national champion and league draftee. As part of SM Active Hub’s “Here to Move” campaign, he toured multiple SM malls from April 9 to 12, joining exhibition games, meet-and-greets, and activations including Night Glow at SM City Cabanatuan, SM Center Muntinlupa, and Neon Paddle at SM Center Antipolo Downtown.
SM courts also welcomed globally recognized pickleball star James Ignatowich, a PPA Champion, former World No. 3 in Mixed Doubles, and Co-Founder and CEO of RPM Pickleball, who headlined the Toby’s Pickleball Super Series event at SM North EDSA and delivered thrilling high-level matches for local fans.
In 2025, SM Active Hub hosted Filipino-American pro player Lauren Mercado, based in the U.S. and ranked #1 U18 in Nevada and #10 U18 in the U.S., who toured multiple SM malls and shared her expertise with local players, strengthening SM’s sports ecosystem.
Beyond competition, SM Active Hub is transforming pickleball into a vibrant social and lifestyle movement through immersive, Instagrammable experiences for today’s active communities.
Adding to the growing ecosystem are unique community-driven concepts such as the launch of the Pink Paddle Club at SM City East Ortigas, the vibrant Pickleball Night Glow at SM City Cabanatuan, the opening of the pickleball courts at SM Center Muntinlupa, and the energetic Neon Paddle activation at SM Center Antipolo Downtown. These colorful, high-energy experiences have redefined how Filipinos enjoy sports by blending fitness, entertainment, music, nightlife, and community into one maxed-out experience.
At SM Mall of Asia, professional pickleball player and APP Malaysia Gold Medalist Ryan Fu headlined the SM Active Hub anniversary celebration last April 11 and joined mini exhibition matches during the Women’s Month activation, helping introduce the sport to beginner and lifestyle audiences.
Meanwhile, six foreign pickleball players and content creators from lifestyle collective The Friday Crew turned Four E-Com Center into a vibrant social sports hub last May 17 through games, meetups, and giveaways — showing how pickleball has evolved into a full-scale social movement.
“Through SM Active Hub, we continue to lead pickleball’s growth in the Philippines by making the sport more accessible, inclusive, and community-driven. With the country’s largest network of courts, tournaments, and activations, SM Supermalls has become the biggest and most dominant advocate of pickleball and active lifestyles, reflecting how Filipinos are embracing more social and experiential ways to stay active,” said Joseph Francis V. Silva, Senior Assistant Vice President for Operations of SM Sports & Leisure Centers.
Through the SM Malls Online App, mallgoers can discover pickleball events, book courts, and join clinics nationwide. The SM Active Hub community now has over 130,000 members, with access to sports updates and exclusive perks across SM malls.
As pickleball surges nationwide, SM Supermalls is no longer just participating—it is leading the movement. Through accessible sports spaces and innovation, SM Active Hub shapes how Filipinos gala to the max—live, play, compete, and connect.
Ready to pick up a paddle? Join the SM Active Hub community and experience pickleball at its best. Download the SM Malls Online App to book courts, join clinics, and stay updated on events across 29 malls nationwide.

4 Ways Filipinos Can Stay Healthy and Protected this Season

The Philippines continues to face excessively hot weather, with dozens of areas logging heat indices past 40ºC. As temperatures remain elevated, many Filipinos are taking advantage of the season to travel, enjoy outdoor activities, and spend time with family and friends. However, the warm months bring increased health risks, including heat-related illnesses, making it important to stay mindful of both physical well-being and personal safety.

Here are four practical ways to stay safe and well during this season.

  1. Stay out of the heat and be aware of your surroundings. With several parts of the Philippines reaching “danger” temperature levels (42ºC to 51ºC), dehydration and heat exhaustion can quickly become serious concerns. Health authorities warn that prolonged exposure to extreme heat may lead to symptoms such as dizziness, fatigue, headaches, and muscle cramps, and in several cases, heat stroke, a life-threatening condition that occurs when the body temperature rises about 40°C. In 2023, the Philippines recorded 513 heat-related illness cases, one of the highest recent totals reported by health authorities. [1]

Drink water regularly, limit time under direct sunlight, and take breaks in shaded or air-conditioned areas. If you plan to swim, never do so alone. Dizziness brought on by extreme heat can increase the risk of drowning. Protect your skin by wearing protective clothing, applying sunscreen, and using hats or umbrellas. Health experts also recommend limiting outdoor exposure during peak sunlight hours, typically between 10 AM and 3 PM, when UV rays are strongest.

  1. Keep your home cool. Managing indoor temperatures is just as important as staying safe outdoors. Simple measures such as using window shutters to block direct sunlight can help keep living spaces cooler. When using electric fans, note that they are most effective when the ambient temperature is below 40°C. At higher temperatures, they may circulate hot air rather than provide relief. For greater comfort, pairing an air conditioner set at around 27°C with a fan can make a room feel up to 4°C cooler, helping reduce electricity consumption while maintaining comfort.

  1. Protect infants and young children. Children, especially infants, are particularly vulnerable to heat-related risks. Never leave a child in a parked vehicle, even briefly, as temperatures inside can rise to dangerous levels within minutes. Dress infants and young children in cool, light, loose-fitting clothing, and avoid covering infant strollers with blankets or covers that restrict airflow. Be attentive to signs of heat distress such as excessive fussiness, flushed skin, or unusual fatigue.

  1. Prevent mosquito-borne diseases. While mosquitoes are commonly associated with the rainy season, the hot and dry months also create conditions for mosquito breeding. In areas where water becomes scarce, many households store water in containers and uncovered containers become prime breeding grounds for mosquitoes and the diseases they carry, including dengue. Eliminate stagnant water in containers, plant pots, and drainage areas, and ensure water storage containers are properly covered all the time. Use insect repellent and wear protective clothing when outdoors to further reduce the risks of mosquito bites.

Beyond practicing healthy habits, being prepared for unexpected medical expenses is another important part of overall well-being. Health protection solutions can help individuals and families manage the financial impact of illnesses or medical emergencies, giving them peace of mind as they enjoy the season.

To support Filipinos in safeguarding their health and finances this summer, Sun Life Grepa Financial, Inc. (Sun Life Grepa) offers protection solutions designed to help individuals and families stay prepared for unexpected medical needs.

Vermosa Green Run 2026 Returns in June with Stronger Sustainability Advocacy and Concrete Ways to Save the Planet

Vermosa Green Run, the pioneering advocacy event that rallied the community back to the tracks post-pandemic, is returning for its landmark fifth consecutive staging on June 28, 2026 at Vermosa in Imus, Cavite.

This time, the run that has attracted fitness enthusiasts, casual runners, elite athletes, pet lovers, and families out for fun and fitness is taking concrete steps to deepen the appreciation and commitment of the running community to sustainable green living and an active lifestyle.

The fifth edition of the Green Run, where immersion in nature and lush, green sceneries is one of the main attractions, is introducing more eco-conscious elements into the race experience and encouraging participants to get involved in long-term forest restoration efforts across the country. For one, running across the scenic Green Run route inspires runners to become advocates for conservation and sustainable lifestyles.

This year, the multi-level run – which features 3K, 5K, 10K, 21K running categories and a 1K Dog Run – is challenging fitness enthusiasts, elite athletes, families, and pet lovers to actively participate in localized waste reduction by bringing used PET (polyethylene terephthalate) water bottles or food containers when they register to avail of race kit discounts.  The collected bottles will be turned over to the Makati Development Corporation (MDC) to be upcycled into eco bricks that will help reduce environmental impact and support sustainable construction and community practices.

The race shirts and singlets including the dog bandanas are also made from recycled PET bottles. “We want runners to feel – both literally and symbolically – that choosing to participate means choosing to support responsible resource use. Embedding sustainability directly into the race kits was a deliberate choice that reflects Vermosa’s values. It transforms a souvenir into a lasting reminder of conscious living,” said Kristin Raval-Ofilada, Ayala Land Project Development Manager.

Ms. Raval-Ofilada also announced that beyond the recycled race kits, this year’s Green Run encourages racing enthusiasts to participate as a group. “Every group of 10 participants automatically becomes part of Haribon Foundation’s Forests for Life Movement. As such, they will support native tree planting and forest restoration projects in partner communities nationwide. Through this movement, Haribon brings together individuals, organizations, and local communities to restore degraded forests using a science-based rain forestation approach focused on planting and nurturing native tree species.”

The Forests for Life Movement seeks to create long-term ecological impact by ensuring that seedlings survive, grow, and mature into healthy forests. Restored forests help secure clean water, fertile soil, and stable climates that are the lifelines sustaining communities across the country, Ofilada explained.

Beyond environmental conservation, the Green Run remains rooted in holistic health, animal welfare, and sports excellence. Co-beneficiaries of Haribon Foundation Takbo Kabitenyo and Pawssion Project highlight the interconnectedness of planetary and community health, emphasizing that preserving natural habitats goes hand-in-hand with animal welfare and human well-bring.

The Green Run will take place amidst Vermosa’s expansive, nature-forward open spaces, utilizing the world-class facilities of the Ayala Vermosa Sports Hub, the region’s   ultimate venue for athletic training and active lifestyles. True to its blueprint, the 2026 race will feature responsible hydration systems and stringent waste-reduction measures designed to inspire eco-friendly habits long after crossing the finish line.

Green Run 2026 is supported by Pocari Sweat, Merrell, Fitbat, Salonpas, Topbreed, Smart C, Dunsk Kuhner, Baby Boo, Chef Especial, Entrée, Saint Roche, The Gourmet Specialist, and Zert.

Profriends and Archipelago Builders Corporation Reaffirm Partnership to Deliver Westwind as Planned

Property Company of Friends, Inc. (Profriends) reinforces its commitment to building communities as it sustains its partnership with Archipelago Builders Corporation (ABC), a Category AAA contractor, for the ongoing development of Westwind.

The renewed partnership was formalized during the contract signing between the two institutions, signaling the construction of Westwind’s second building. This marked a significant milestone for both Profriends and ABC, as they collaborate to deliver high-quality, sustainable living spaces for Filipino families. Westwind, located within Profriends’ flagship township project Lancaster New City, represents the developer’s evolution from traditional house-and-lot developments into integrated, modern communities designed for today’s urban lifestyle.

Amid the continuing challenges brought about by the Middle East crisis, ABC and Profriends remain firmly on track, making the construction of the second building a reality. “We planned it well from the start, including securing materials ahead of time. We also have a good team who shares the same commitment to deliver what was promised. Another key success factor is our strong partnership with ABC,” says Profriends President Kathleen Choa. This dedication is evident in proactive efforts ensuring that construction moves forward steadily and remains resilient in the face of external pressures. “It is a type of partnership built on good communication, trust, and a shared vision. We do not only talk about the issues, but we solve them together. That is what partnership is all about,” added Choa.

For ABC’s part, Chief Operating Officer Paulo Lorenzo Pe expressed how he takes pride in the Westwind project. “Some companies--- the better ones, work very hard to bring the cost down. And that is what Profriends is, as the company strives to make housing affordable to the families it serves. This gives more meaning and passion to what we do. So, the team and I are very proud to continue to work hard,” shares Pe.

At the heart of this progress is a shared commitment—to deliver what has been promised to future Westwind homeowners. “I have full trust with Profriends...for our part, we will do our best to keep our partnership,” added Pe.

The continued collaboration is anchored on mutual trust and a strong track record. Founded in 1965, ABC has grown into one of the country’s reputable AAA contractors, capable of handling large-scale infrastructure and building projects across various sectors. Its decades of experience complement Profriends’ mission of “creating communities and transforming lives,” ensuring that each development meets both structural excellence and community-focused design.

As Profriends continues to grow and diversify its developments, its ongoing partnership with ABC reflects a shared commitment to building communities that truly serve people. More than just constructing homes, this collaboration focuses on creating safe, vibrant, and future-ready neighborhoods where Filipino families can thrive—spaces designed to adapt to their changing needs and support a better quality of life for years to come.

Profriends is one of the fastest growing property developers in the Philippines, having built and delivered over 64,000 houses to Filipino families since 1999. For almost three decades in property development, Profriends has evolved to be a values-driven community builder that continues to transform the lives of Filipino families. Its strong presence in Cavite and Iloilo is manifested through its projects, Lancaster New City and Parc Regency Residences, respectively.

Grab and UNIQLO Turn Everyday App Moments Into Wearable Summer Keepsakes

MANILA, Philippines  — This summer, Grab Philippines and UNIQLO are inviting Filipinos to wear their best everyday Grab moments.
The two brands have launched “Blueprint for a 5-Star Summer,” a limited-edition UTme! collection that transforms familiar scenes from the Grab app into playful, wearable designs. Think food cravings finally satisfied, deliveries arriving just when you need them, spontaneous barkada plans, and that all-too-familiar “nagpa-Grab ako” moment brought to life on T-shirts and tote bags.
The collaboration marks the first partnership between a superapp and UNIQLO’s UTme! service in the Philippines. The customizable apparel is now available at select UNIQLO Printer Stores nationwide.

Designed in a blueprint-inspired visual style, the collection reimagines everyday Grab experiences as technical diagrams, complete with witty Filipino annotations. Each piece maps the small but memorable ways Grab fits into Filipino life, whether through a ride, a delivery, a meal, or a last-minute plan made under the summer sun.
Leading the lineup is “GUTOM NA AKO: A Technical Breakdown,” a tribute to the deeply relatable act of rewarding oneself with a well-earned treat, complete with notes like “Dasurb ko ’to.” “PA-GRAB MO NA YAN: A Technical Study” captures the everyday coordination behind successful deliveries, while “A GUIDE TO BOOKING A CHILL RIDE” maps out how Grab helps make spontaneous group plans easier through features like Group Ride.
Rounding out the collection is “THE INNER WORKINGS OF NAG-PA GRAB AKO,” which turns the familiar rush of meeting a rider or delivery-partner at the gate into a fun, wearable schematic.
Customers can print the designs on T-shirts and tote bags at participating UNIQLO Printer Stores, including the UNIQLO Manila Global Flagship Store, UNIQLO Mall of Asia, UNIQLO BGC High Street, UNIQLO Greenhills, UNIQLO Nuvali Sta. Rosa Roadside Store, UNIQLO Ayala Center Cebu, UNIQLO Davao Roadside Store.
To make the experience even more seamless, Grab is also offering users discounted rides to and from selected UNIQLO Roadside and Flagship stores nationwide. The promo gives users 10% off rides, capped at PHP 30 per ride, with no minimum fare requirement. Users can redeem the offer up to four times per month, or up to 36 times across the promo period.
The ride promo runs from 10 April 2026 to 27 February 2027, excluding the UNIQLO Thank You Festival.
Grab Philippines and UNIQLO will roll out the collection in two phases, with Phase 1 available until September 30, 2026. Customers can view the full design catalog and participating stores through UNIQLO’s official UTme! page.

Summer, Unscripted: Sprite Brings a Refreshing Take on the Filipino Summer

Summer in the Philippines has always carried a distinct rhythm, longer days, relentless heat, and daily moments shaped as much by the streets as by the destination. This season, Sprite is showing up where those moments happen most, bringing refreshment to everyday summer experiences as Filipino youth redefine how they live the season.

While summer was once synonymous with beach trips and long vacations, today’s generation is meaning in moments in between: everyday experiences that feel real, familiar and worth sharing. In these settings, Sprite has remained a natural presence, offering an ice-cold break from the heat during moments that unfold unscripted.

Sprite has long shown up where young Filipinos actually are—from the convenience store across the dorm to the cooler at the local fiesta to a quick stop along a hot commute. It is a steady refreshing companion in the middle of summer’s unpredictability, cutting through the heat and the noise with every sip.

This summer, the brand brought that presence closer to where people already are through on-ground and live experiences across Metro Manila and key destinations nationwide.

At selected transport hubs including One Ayala, LRT Legarda, PITX, and LRT Marikina-Pasig, Sprite set up vending machines that offered commuters a refreshing pause during peak summer heat. The brand also brought its cooling presence to open community spaces such as Marikina Riverbanks and Luneta Park, adding moments of refreshment to everyday routines.

Building on this, Sprite marked the season with large-scale community moments, including a summer event at the SM Mall of Asia By the Bay that brought together music lovers and the youth. The event featured a lineup of local artists like P-POP group BGYO, Fitterkarma, Shanti Dope, Illest Morena and Drag Race Philippines Season 3 winner Maxie Andreison and highlighted how music, shared spaces, and refreshments come together during the Filipino summer. Beyond the city, Sprite extended its summer presence to beach destinations such as La Union, Bolinao, and Boracay, creating spaces for friends to gather, cool down, and enjoy the season by the shore.

These local experiences reflect a broader shift in how summer is being experienced, not just as a destination, but as a series of everyday moments shaped by spontaneity, connection, and choice. And when plans don’t always go as expected, when budgets are tighter or trips don’t push through, Sprite  continues to be a familiar constant, offering a refreshment in the moments that matter most, whether during a barkada hangout, a shared meal, or a quick stop to cool down from the heat.

Globally, Sprite’s It’s That Fresh platform celebrates cutting through summer’s noise. In the Philippines, introduced locally as “Yan ang Refreshing,” that idea comes to life through moments that are real, accessible, and rooted in everyday life.

As Filipino youth continue to shape what summer means to them, Sprite remains present, bringing a fresh take to the moments that make the season feel real.

Stay chill, stay cool, and redefine your own idea of summer with Sprite— ‘yan ang refreshing!

PUMA Honors 2026 FIFA World Cup with the Iconic, Unapologetic Swagger of Showtime Pack and Portugal Kits

Manila, Philippines (May 28, 2026) — PUMA continues to fuel the passion of Filipino athletes and fans with the release of the Showtime Pack and Portugal Kits created specifically for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. With the football community in the Philippines rapidly growing, local players, fans, and streetwear trendsetters are eager to be a part of the biggest sporting event in the world, which only takes place every four years.

To honor this global spectacle, PUMA is bringing back high-energy colorways through the unapologetic Showtime Pack and the culturally rich Portugal Home and Away kits. Spanning football, basketball, and running, this bold drop dares everyone to step directly into the spotlight.

For PUMA, true sports culture goes way beyond the final whistle; it dictates the pulse of everyday street style. Drawing inspiration from the legendary 2014 Tricks Pack that took the world by storm, PUMA is reviving that exact swagger with the Showtime Pack. This collection brings back iconic mismatched pink-and-yellow colorways to a new generation that refuses to blend into the background. This collection makes a loud, confident statement. Mismatched? Maybe. Unmatched? Definitely.

FUTURE and ULTRA Bring Back an Iconic Football Look

The Showtime Pack was designed for athletes who thrive under pressure and attention alike. When football elites like Neymar Jr, Cody Gakpo, and Morgan Rogers step out in these reimagined shoes, they leverage the FUTURE’s adaptive FUZIONFIT360 upper for playmaking agility and the ULTRA’s featherlight ULTRAWEAVE tech for explosive speed. With these iconic pairs, they are built to command the entire stadium.

The Showtime Pack Goes Beyond Football with the MB.05

That unmatched main-character energy is far too big to stay confined to the football pitch. PUMA has taken the iconic Showtime aesthetic and injected it into its most innovative basketball silhouettes, proving that performance technology and vibrant streetwear can go hand in hand.

For the hoopers and sneakerheads looking to turn heads, the basketball lineup is pure heat. Dripping in that signature pink and yellow, the Showtime edition of the MB.05 draws attention with molded Wing heel straps, a molded skull outsole, and LaMelo Ball's signature “One of One” inlay. Paired with the explosive All-Pro NITRO™ 2, it is the ultimate flex piece, engineered for dominant on-court games and off-court casual fits.

FAST-R 3 and Deviate Elite 4 Push Performance Forward

The running community gets a heavy dose of that same unapologetic style. For runners looking to stand out on the pavement while shaving minutes off their times, the FAST-R 3 and Deviate Elite 4 are absolute game-changers. Fusing elite carbon-plated propulsion with those chaotic Showtime colors, these marathon-ready kicks ensure you are serving looks whether you are crushing a high-speed tempo run, hitting a 10K personal best, or simply making a casual weekend coffee run.

SM Malls in Valenzuela, Sangandaan, Grand Central Join DOE’s O.N.E. Energy-Saving Challenge

Three SM malls in Valenzuela and Caloocan joined the nationwide “O.N.E.: Oras Natin sa Efficiency” campaign on Monday, May 25, by switching off non-essential lights from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. in support of the Department of Energy’s (DOE) energy conservation initiative.
SM City Grand Central, SM Center Sangandaan, and SM City Valenzuela participated in the O.N.E. Challenge, which encourages Filipinos to practice energy-saving habits through collective action.

The campaign, led by the DOE in partnership with SM Supermalls, promotes efficient energy use by urging establishments and households to switch off non-essential lights and unplug unused appliances for one hour. The initiative was officially launched at the SM Mall of Asia as part of a nationwide call for sustainability and energy conservation.
During the one-hour switch-off, the participating malls dimmed or turned off selected lighting systems, including mall signages, façades, pylon towers, landscapes, dropdown banners, and portions of hallway and lobby lighting, while ensuring uninterrupted mall operations and essential services.

The O.N.E. campaign, which stands for “One Hour, One Energy, One Nation,” highlights how simple everyday actions can create a significant collective impact in protecting the environment and conserving resources.
Through the #SMGreenMovement, SM Supermalls reaffirmed its commitment to sustainability by supporting programs that promote energy efficiency and environmental responsibility in communities nationwide.

Philippines’ Best 3x3 Teams Battle for Global Glory at the Red Bull Half Court National Finals

Manila, Philippines, May 26, 2026 — The Philippines' top three-on-three teams have spent months grinding through regional qualifiers. On June 13, they find out who among them is built for the world.

The Red Bull Half Court Philippines National Finals takes over Bigger Pictures, Mandaluyong in a single-day, winner-takes-all showdown where speed, skill, and offensive power determine everything. Following a series of qualifiers across Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao, the country’s best streetball teams now converge for a single goal: to earn the right to represent the Philippines at the Red Bull Half Court World Finals in Manila.

Red Bull Half Court delivers the fastest version of three-on-three basketball, where games are capped at 10 minutes, and the first team to reach 21 points wins. What sets it apart from any other 3-on-3 format are the two unique rules that keep the pressure rising. First, the Own the Court Bonus, where six points are awarded to the highest-scoring squad in a cumulative team tally. In some cases, this bonus makes all the difference in the teams’ final standings.

Next is the three-point shots rule. Introduced in 2024, this rule features two three-point spots marked by circles drawn two metres behind the arc. Once a player takes a shot with their foot on the circle, it counts for three points.

Spotlighting the Philippines’ Rich Basketball Culture

More than a championship, the National Finals is a collision of stories, styles, and stakes. Emerging victorious from their respective regional qualifiers, the following regional teams now face off for one women’s slot and one men’s slot at the global court:
Manila
Uratex Tibay (Women’s Team)
Lady Maroons (Women’s Team)
SGF Kings (Men’s Team)
Filipino Mixtape (Men’s Team)
Cebu
Gimcuad-Ninz (Women’s Team)
Team BOKKI (Men’s Team)
Davao
Three-time winner Coaches Corner (Women’s Team)
Two-time winner Davao Agilas (Men’s Team)

Some arrive with established reputations, others as rising contenders who fought through tightly contested brackets, but all teams have earned their place through decisive performances under pressure.

“Earning a chance at the World Final isn’t only about winning games. It’s about proving that the path from local community courts to the international stage is possible through discipline, resilience, and belief in the team,” said Mart Redyn Arellano of Davao Agilas.

During the regional qualifiers, each winning team brought a distinct brand of play shaped by its local basketball culture. Manila's game was fast and calculated with reads and reactions built on years of urban court culture. Cebu brought relentless offensive energy, a high-scoring mentality that thrives in the format's pace. Davao arrived with confidence, grit, and chemistry, turning their regional qualifier into a showcase of total dominance.

Having dominated on home courts, teams must now adapt to a format where scoring output is just as critical as winning, pushing them to balance control with agility in every possession.

“Getting a spot at the World Finals means the world to us. As players from the province, we’ve spent years dreaming of sharing the court with the stars we look up to—the ones who inspire us every day to elevate our game. This opportunity is more than just a tournament; it is a moment we will carry with us forever,” expressed Lorelaine Pulido Gestopa of Coaches Corner.

The Road to the World Stage

“It’s about time to bring the Red Bull Half Court World Finals here. Filipinos have improved and have been preparing for this kind of platform. 3-on-3 Basketball is well represented here in every street and every corner. As long as we can shoot a hoop, Filipinos will play basketball. All I’m saying is, welcome to the Philippines, where basketball is a part of being a Filipino,” said Nathan Heinrich Egea of Filipino Mixtape.

The National Finals marks a defining moment for the competing teams and for the continued rise of streetball in the Philippines. Since 2021, Red Bull Half Court has built a platform that has taken streetball athletes across the globe from local courts to iconic international stages. Two Filipino teams will once again wear their country’s pride as they perform on home court.

“If our team makes it to the World Finals, I would want the world to see that we, Filipinos, not only play with so much heart and passion, but we also play with great sportsmanship and integrity,” expressed LJ Miranda of Uratex Tibay.

“If there’s one thing that I’d want the world to see as they watch Filipino streetball, it’s our heart. Everyone here in the Philippines plays with their whole heart,” shared Mary Angela Abejar Alcos of Gimcuad-Ninz.

Witness Manila, Cebu, and Davao’s best streetballers battle it out at the Red Bull Half Court Philippines National Finals on June 13 at Bigger Pictures, Mandaluyong. Doors open at 3PM.

Sun Life’s Macaulay Club Donates PHP 1.6M to Empower Vulnerable Children

Manila, Philippines (May 2026) – The Macaulay Club, Sun Life Philippines’ club for top-performing financial advisors, reaffirmed its commitment to giving back with a PHP 1.6 million donation to SOS Children’s Villages Pilipinas.

GCash Cracks Down on Online Task Scammers, Intensifies Anti-Fraud Campaign

GCash is intensifying its efforts against task scams and other forms of social engineering fraud as digital scam syndicates become increasingly sophisticated across the country.

Task scams often involve fraudsters posing as recruiters, merchants, or online platforms that promise easy earnings in exchange for completing simple online tasks. Victims are later manipulated into transferring funds under the false promise of higher commissions or withdrawals.

To help you stay safe, remember:

·       Mind the "Unsolicited" Invite: Professional recruiters typically use official platforms. Be cautious of job offers that arrive unexpectedly via email, SMS, or cold call offers.

·       Credentials Matter: Authentic employers are interested in your skills and will usually ask for a CV or a brief interview. If an offer requires "no experience" and "no resume," it’s best to verify the source.

·       Your Money Should Stay with You: Legitimate jobs pay you for your work. A major red flag is when you are asked to "top up" or “upfront payments” or make a deposit to unlock higher-tier tasks or "premium" commissions.

·       Simple Withdrawal Access: You should be able to access your earnings without hurdles. Be wary of platforms that force you to complete a specific "set" or "cycle" of tasks before allowing you to withdraw your funds.

·       Official Communication Only: Look for emails from company domains (e.g., @companyname.com). Official business is rarely conducted through generic @gmail.com or @yahoo.com addresses.

·       Keep Your Account Private: Your MPIN and One-Time Password (OTP) are your digital keys. GCash will never ask for these via call, SMS, email, or social media.

·       Your GCash account is for your personal use only: Do not let others use your GCash account for any transaction, and do not use the GCash account of other people as well.

·       Trust Your Instincts: If an offer promises unusually high pay for very little effort, it is often a sign to take a step back and investigate further.

GCash continues to strengthen its scam and fraud prevention efforts

·       Fraud Monitoring Systems & Proactive Wallet Blocking: Since 2025 to date, GCash reported closing over 3.3 million scam-linked wallets. When a user reports a scam, the receiving wallet is often part of a larger network that GCash can identify and shut down.

·       Coordination and Partnerships with Law Enforcement: GCash continues to work closely with the PNP Anti-Cybercrime Group (ACG), Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (CICC), National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) and other regulators to strengthen our ecosystem.

If you encounter a suspicious task offer or transaction, reporting it helps protect the whole community. You can reach out through these official channels:
