Light Network goes Digital!

Light Network channel 33 is achieving greater innovation as it begins its official broadcast on Digital Television this coming March 2017! Through this exciting breakthrough, viewers in Mega Manila will soon be able to experience a clearer and highly-improved video and sound quality of Light Network in their televisions. Once official broadcast begins, people can now watch Light Network anytime and anywhere because not only will the channel be available on digital boxes and digital-ready televisions, but it could also be accessed through handheld devices such as tablets, smartphones and other gadgets.
The “digitalization” is the process of converting our current Analog Television broadcasting into Digital Terrestrial Television (DTT), which simply means that our existing television technology will be transformed into an upgraded, higher quality of broadcast system. Through this digital improvement, Light Network will soon be available on multiple digital viewing platforms—broadening its horizon among the television programming sphere.
In an interview with Engr. Antonio Soriano, the Vice President of Technical Operations for Light Network, he said that he is excited for the upcoming Digitalization of Light Network, because the channel had long since been prepared for this huge digital switchover. “Tayo ang unang nag-convert from Analog to Digital transmitter. Wala nang test -broadcast. Official broadcast na agad.” He also said that not all channels are ready to make the digital “switch”, making Light Network the first channel in the  Philippines to migrate to the exciting domain of Digital TV, while maintaining its frequency on Channel 33.
According to the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC), once the innovative technology of Digitalization is fully implemented, it would not only deliver better image and sound quality to our television channels, but it would also be able to provide features such as datacasting, multi-channel platform, One Seg, and most importantly, the Emergency Warning Broadcast System (EWBS), which is used to transmit nationwide warning announcements in times of earthquakes, tsunamis, or other high-alert disasters.
Engr. Antonio Soriano further stated that these features are just few of the many benefits of Digital TV. According to him, through the other upcoming advancements in Digitalization, television will finally regain its essential standing in the lives of people, as compared to the rising media usage for mobile devices. “Yes. Maibabalik ang TV bilang prime Media tool,” he concluded.

How a Nutritionist can Help your Family Enjoy Better Health

When a family member gets sick or experiences recurring discomfort such as constipation, acne breakouts or cramps, we often self-medicate or go straight to a doctor – and very seldom to a nutritionist. However, consulting a nutritionist is actually a good idea because many of the ailments that we experience may be caused by improper nutrition, micronutrient deficiency, or high sugar levels that can be addressed simply by modifying our diet.

To help your family achieve better health, Solane, the country’s leading LPG solutions provider, shares how visiting a nutritionist can help you and your loved ones achieve optimal health.

A healthy diet is the key to enjoy better well-being. Mostly, sicknesses and infections are caused by lack of nutrients because the body requires different vitamins and minerals to function properly. These nutrients aren’t naturally produced by the body, thus you can only get them from the food you eat. To help you achieve optimal health, nutritionists conduct a variety of tests to see what nutrients your body needs to boost your well-being and fight infections and diseases.

Are you struggling to shed those extra pounds for a long time but seem like nothing has changed? With a help of a nutritionist, you can lose weight safely and effectively. He can evaluate your lifestyle as well as eating habits to give you a personalized health plan that suits your body and lifestyle.

Another reason for visiting a nutritionist is to help you prevent certain health problems or conditions, especially if you are predisposed to having some illnesses because your family has a history of serious health problems, like cancer. Nutritionists can recommend changes in your diet and lifestyle to prevent this from happening.

Nutritionists can also identify what food causes allergies and help manage it. He can offer advice on food that is safe to eat, ensuring that your body will still get adequate nutrients even if you stop eating those that trigger the allergy. He can also provide a diet plan which incorporates the safe food and offers tips on how to avoid an allergic reaction.

On top of that, a nutritionist acts as your coach who can teach you how to make healthy decisions and cook delicious, healthy meals. Indeed, with the guidance of a nutritionist, you can acquire a sustainable healthy lifestyle and achieve optimum health.

Evia Lifestyle Center is home to UP’s new innovation hub

Evia Lifestyle Center, the south’s premiere lifestyle shopping and dining mecca, just added a new dimension to its approach to modern mall-going by opening an exciting new hub for inventive breakthroughs and learning – The University of the Philippines @Lab Innovation Hub.

The family of Vista Land Chairman Manny Villar and Senator Cynthia Villar, along with officers from the University of the Philippines (UP) recently launched this new Innovation Zone as the first phase of development for the upcoming UP Alabang Campus in Vista Alabang.

Evia Lifestyle Center currently houses this groundbreaking Innovation Zone and Incubator Hub that will, in the words of former Senate President Villar, assert UP’s role as “the most dynamic University and the leader in education in the country”. The hub, nicknamed UP @Lab (a play on words that simultaneously mean “ablaze <alab>, a futuristic hub <@Lab> and its location <ALABang>) is designed to be the first spark that will initiate the academe and industry partnerships that UP aims to create by putting up a campus in Alabang.

"UP @Lab is a dream brought to life by the Villars for UP’s student-locators because it brings us closer to accessing industry funding that makes our inventions and ideas a reality", said Dr. Luis Sison, Project Leader of Diliman-based DOST-UP Enterprise and Innovation Hub.

"This first building block of UP Alabang allows us to solve issues that plague fledging start-ups, such as limited access to industry and business expertise that have hindered the progress of technology innovation and development in the country", said Dr. Aura Matias, former Dean of the UP College of Engineering. "True to its name, UP @Lab shines as a beacon of hope for technology development in our country", she added.

UP @Lab is located in Level B1 of the Evia Lifestyle Center. It is a fully-equipped innovation hub complete with four start-up offices, two meeting rooms, and an open workspace area for visiting locators. The hub will be run by the same team behind UP Diliman’s DOST-UP Enterprise Center as a starting point for eventual operations in UP

The new UP Alabang campus in Vista Alabang’s upcoming University Town, will house two new tech-driven centers for innovation for the country’s premier university - the UP School of Technology Entrepreneurship, and the UP Alabang Enterprise Center. The campus complex will be co-developed by UP and Vista Land as part of a donation and development agreement signed last June by university officials and the Villar Family. The Villars donated five hectares of land in the upcoming University Town of Vista Land's “communicity” development Vista Alabang in Daang Hari. The agreement also includes a donation of PHP 300M worth of buildings and equipment to be used in the creation of the campus.
Aside from becoming the latest education hub, Evia Lifestyle Center continues to provide an impressive array of choices for shopping at Vista Group’s concept stores – AllElectrics and AllToys, global fashion brands like H&M and Uniqlo, local favorite go-to stores like Bench and Bayo and shoe stores such as Res Toe Run and Payless ShoeSource. Various dining options are also available at favorite resto brands located at the Piazza like Mama Lou’s, Merlion Cuisine, Mesa, and TGI Fridays. Shoppers can also enjoy a unique dining experience at Another Story, a place that transports one to the realm of imagination and make-believe. Evia Lifestyle Center is also home to Vista Cinemas, which boasts of its MX4D and Dolby ATMOS technologies, and its state-of-the-art VIP Theater.

Duterte’s Independent Foreign Policy benefits Philippines economically & strategically, will make country safe from possible nuclear attack in any superpower rivalry, analysts say

At the February 8 Pandesal Forum with media at Kamuning Bakery Café in Quezon City, it was the consensus of various geopolitics and economics analysts that President Rody Duterte’s independent foreign policy of balancing Philippine diplomacy with a pivot to Russia and China has numerous strategic and socio-economic benefits, and it safeguards the country from the danger of a possible nuclear attack during a conflict between rival superpowers.

The analysts said that not only has this reform in foreign policy direction gained new trading partners and allies such as the world’s second largest economy China and energy superpower Russia, Duterte’s independent foreign policy has gained record-high economic gains from traditional ally Japan and also expected to boost USA’s traditional ties with the Philippines under new President Donald Trump.

The geopolitics and economics experts who shared their multi-disciplinary analyses were General Victor Corpus, former Senator Francisco Tatad, former Undersecretary Butch Valdes, analyst Rod Kapunan, ex-diplomat Ado Pagkalinawan, Catholic University of Louvain graduate and strategic analyst Celso Cainglet, Phil-Brics Strategic Studies, Inc. founder Herman T. Laurel, and the Integrated Development Studies Institute (IDSI) director, Wharton-educated economist and geopolitics analyst George T. Siy.

The experts said that an independent foreign policy is mandated in the Philippine constitution, that President Duterte is the only Philippine leader in modern times to have upheld this policy not only in terms of balanced and pragmatic diplomacy to make the country an equidistant friend of all major powers, this policy also seeks to uphold the all-important goal of economic sovereignty.

The analysts said that President Duterte’s reform of seeking neutrality of the Philippines with regards to the strategic rivalry and possible military conflict between the big powers USA and China, USA and Russia will ensure the long-term safety of the Philippines from any nuclear attack by the powers, in the same way most Asean countries like Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia and others are not militarily tied up with or strategically beholden to any of the major powers.

The analysts said the Mutual Defense Treaty between the Philippines and the U.S. was signed in 1951 at the height of the Cold War between the capitalist countries and Communist countries, but the world has changed a lot since then and the Cold War ended in 1991, but the country’s leaders had failed to renegotiate the Mutual Defense Treaty and to reform Philippine foreign policy directions.

The experts said that in March 2015 at the highest point of the tensions over the South China Sea/West Philippine Sea controversy the SWS conducted a survey of the Filipino public sentiment over the prospect of armed conflict between the Philippines and China. The survey showed that 84% of the Filipino public were “worried” about armed conflict with China and half of the people were “worried a great deal”. This is the wisdom of the Filipino people speaking, a sentiment President Rodrigo R. Duterte respects.

In September 2016 President Duterte set the new pro-Philippines direction, “We will observe and I must insist – I repeat, I must insist – on the time honored principles of sovereign equality, non-interferen ce and commitment to the peaceful settlement of disputes to best serve our people…”

President Duterte launched the Philippines’ Independent Foreign Policy (IFP) with uniquely Filipino characteristics, re-opening bilateral dialogue with China which immediately bagged $ 25-Billion of investments, soft loans and assistance from China, boosted tourism and agricultural exports.

China’s initiative and prompted other other competing countries such as Japan playing to play catch up and offering $ 19-Billion of its own funding and support to the Philippines. President Duterte’s IFP has also opened the huge potential markets of Russia for Philippine agricultural exports and imports of 4-million barrels of cheaper Iranian oil.

The normalization of ancient close ties with China also brings the Philippines a special seat on the gigantic 21st Century “One Belt, One Road” (OBOR) project of infrastructure, communication, innovation and trade links that cross from Asia to Europe and back to Asia via the sea, and the Philippines offers the unique prospect of making that New Silk Road circumnavigate the global as OBOR’s eastern hub to the Pacific.

The experts at the Pandesal Forum said that the Philippines under Spanish colonial rule was an entrepot between the robust China trade with Mexico, Spain and Europe via the fabled “Manila-Acapulco Galleon Trade”, that the new independent foreign policy of President Duterte can revive this strategic trade importance of the Philippines via the China-led trans-continental “One Belt, One Road” project.

As part of efforts to diversify sources of economic support, the Philippines’ new independent foreign policy reform can also help expand the country’s source of huge infrastructure development funding through the Beijing-led Asian Infrastructure International Bank (AIIB) of which even many USA allies Canada, South Korea and Germany are also already founding members.

Most important of all is the crucial emerging role the Philippines now plays under President Rodrigo R. Duterte as the Pivot for Peace in the Asia-Pacific, being the fulcrum for the balance-of-power in a Multi-Polar World, especially this year 2017 when the Philippines is assuming the role as chairman of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
