GrabCar Group Ride Now Splits the Fare Automatically, with Savings of Up to 50% per Passenger

MANILA, Philippines, October 16, 2026 — Riding home with friends just got easier and much more affordable. Grab Philippines has upgraded GrabCar Group Ride so the fare can now be split automatically among passengers, with each rider saving up to 50 percent compared with booking a solo ride.

GrabCar Group Ride lets the ride host and up to two friends share one GrabCar, with up to three drop-off points along the way. The more people join, the more affordable the ride becomes for everyone, and the app shows each person’s share upfront. No more awkward “magkano share ko?” after the trip.

Regular ride buddies can also be saved as a group, together with frequent pickup and drop-off pins, so repeat bookings take just a few taps. It’s ideal for officemates heading the same way after work or friends coming home from a night out.

A throwback to the shampoo sachet jingle era

To spotlight the upgrade, Grab released an online video that taps into Filipinos’ nostalgia for the catchy shampoo jingles of the 2000s, while educating commuters on how easy it is to book a GrabCar Group Ride. The campaign repackages mobility feature as the “GrabCar 3-in-1”: three passengers, one booking – the same promise that made the 3-in-1 sachet a household staple.

The idea is simple. Just like the sachet, sharing a ride with your barkada gives you more for less, both in savings and in the company on the way home.

“Filipino commuters are resourceful. They’re always finding smarter ways to make every trip with friends or colleagues more efficient and more affordable. As a committed partner to every commuter, Grab makes sure our platform keeps up with these everyday habits. ‘Hati-hati’ has always been part of how we move together, and it’s about more than splitting costs. It’s about looking out for one another. With GrabCar Group Ride, we’re building on that spirit so that getting around together becomes the easier, more attainable choice for more Filipinos,” said Grab Philippines Country Marketing Head Bea Bravo.

How to book a Group Ride

Open the Grab app, tap GrabCar, then select Group Ride.

Enter your pickup point and drop-off.

Share the invite link with up to two friends.

Your friends add their own drop-off points.

Confirm the booking. The fare is split automatically, with each rider saving up to 50 percent.

The Group Ride feature is now available in all GrabCar cities nationwide.

OPPO Find X10 Series to Launch Globally on October 21 with Next-Generation True-to-Life Imaging

OPPO today announced that its latest flagship smartphones, OPPO Find X10 Series, will make their global debut on October 21 in Mallorca, Spain. Built to be a “Hasselblad True-to-Life Camera”, the new series combines industry-leading camera hardware with the next-generation LUMO True Image Engine, marking a new chapter in OPPO’s pursuit of true-to-life imaging.

“Find X Series reflects our relentless pursuit of exceptional mobile imaging,” said Pete Lau, SVP and Chief Product Officer at OPPO. “Together with Hasselblad, we are taking another significant step forward with Find X10 Series, bringing true-to-life detail, color and tone to everyday photography. Simply open the camera and capture the moment as you see it, with no extra settings required.”

Find X10 Series carries forward the Find X Series’ minimalist design language with premium materials and thoughtfully crafted details. Its all-new Borderless Design features One-Piece Sculpted Glass that flows seamlessly into the camera module, softening the visual impact of the camera bump for a clean, cohesive look.

Find X10 Pro Max in Luna White draws design inspiration from classic cameras. Its LUMO Camera Island features a matte silver metallic finish and houses the new-generation True Color Camera and dual-flash system, complemented by knurled detailing and Hasselblad’s signature matte orange accent ring. Across the back, smooth matte glass meets a subtle fabric-inspired pattern in a distinctive two-tone finish.

Find X10 will be available in Glacier Blue and Mist Grey, while Find X10 Pro Max will come in Titanium Grey and Luna White.

The series pairs this refined design with a major leap in imaging hardware. Find X10 features a category-first Dual 200MP Camera System co-developed with Hasselblad. Find X10 Pro Max goes even further with the industry’s first Triple 200MP Camera System, bringing 200MP sensors to the ultra-wide, main and telephoto cameras for the first time on a smartphone.

Making the most of its camera hardware is OPPO’s next-generation computational photography solution, LUMO True Image Engine. It combines OPPO’s imaging expertise with the natural tone rendering of Master Mode, supported by precise color information captured by the True Color Camera. LUMO True Image Engine delivers authentic detail, accurate color and natural tone. From nuanced skin tones and fine textures to the natural contrast of a scene, images stay true to the moment as you remember it.

Find X10 Series also brings a major upgrade to videography. On Find X10 Pro Max, all three rear cameras support 4K 120fps and 8K 30fps video recording, while Find X10 brings the same capabilities to its two 200MP cameras. Find X10 Series also introduces Open Gate Capture, using the sensor’s full imaging area to capture more of the scene and give creators greater freedom to crop and reframe the same footage for landscape, portrait and other formats in post-production.

Powering Find X10 Series are flagship MediaTek chipsets. Find X10 runs on MediaTek Dimensity 9600M, while Find X10 Pro Max is among the first smartphones to feature the 2nm MediaTek Dimensity 9600 Pro, delivering a major leap in both performance and power efficiency.

Both models feature an 8,000mAh OPPO Silicon-Carbon Battery¹, delivering up to two days of typical use on a single charge. Designed for long-term durability, the battery is also engineered to retain over 80% of its original capacity after five years of typical use.²

Find X10 Series also features the latest ColorOS 17, bringing a fresh look and smarter everyday experiences. Its new Living Flow Design combines refined visuals with fluid interactions, while AI Mind Pilot with Agent Mode connects agentic AI with files and photos on the phone, helping users complete complex tasks with a single prompt.

OPPO will reveal full specifications, pricing and availability, alongside more of the series’ latest innovations, at the global launch in Mallorca on October 21.

Eastern Communications Earns Great Place To Work Recognition, Putting People at the Heart of Innovation

MANILA, PHILIPPINES — Connectivity for Eastern Communications has always been more than technology. It is about the people who give purpose to every connection. That belief and a people-centered approach are what made Eastern earn its recognition as a Great Place To Work for the third year in a row, as the company's efforts continue to build a workplace where connection and collaboration are integral pillars that cultivate an environment where Eastern employees are empowered and equipped to take on new opportunities and challenges.

For Eastern, the recognition goes beyond an HR milestone. It reflects a workplace philosophy rooted in its High Tech, High Touch approach, bringing together innovation and technology with genuine human connection.

“Our people are at the heart of everything we do. Through opportunities for collaboration, learning, recognition, and engagement, Eastern continues to foster a culture where people can contribute meaningfully while developing their capabilities.

This commitment has also earned recognitions this year in employer branding and excellence in employee engagement, complementing the company’s Great Place to Work recognition and highlighting its efforts to build a workplace that resonates with both current and future Eastern employees.

Dare to Soar Starts Within

The recognition forms part of Eastern’s “Dare to Soar” campaign. A campaign that encourages the organization to look beyond what it has already achieved and pursue what is possible next. For Eastern, this begins with its people.

From embracing new technologies and developing new capabilities to collaborating across teams and finding new ways to serve customers and communities, Eastern employees are encouraged to grow alongside the organization.

“Dare to Soar starts within. We want our people to see Eastern not only as a place where they work, but as a place where they can learn, contribute, and pursue what they are capable of,” said Mr. Jaeson Evangelista, Co-Coordinator of Eastern Communications.

Building a great workplace is ultimately connected to its purpose as a company. Because behind every network, solution, and connection, Eastern values its people who make progress possible.

Here's What 10000mAh Battery Looks Like in Creator's Everyday Life

MANILA, PHILIPPINES – A smartphone can be one of the busiest things we carry, and when the battery runs low before the day winds down, it can quickly become an inconvenience.

It’s a familiar scenario that makes battery life worth a closer look. In their latest social media content, creators are featuring the newly launched vivo V80 Lite and its massive 10000mAh BlueVolt Battery, showing how it fits into different lifestyles and daily demands.

From busy workdays to much-needed breaks

A full day can mean different things to different people. For some, it involves juggling professional responsibilities and personal commitments. For others, it means exploring new places, creating content, and making time for themselves.

For Dr. Xavier, a dentist, professor, and Cebu-based food and travel blogger, a typical day can involve several roles. His routine takes him from surgery to the clinic and school before he switches to creator mode, capturing food photos, filming videos, taking selfies, and producing content along the way.

By the time he gets home and checks social media one last time, the punchline of his video says it all: his phone still has power, but he is the one ready to call it a day.

Meanwhile, as a Supermodel Universe International 2025, Filipino model, businesswoman, and actress, Yna Angela Uy's day can stretch from back-to-back meetings to a late-night shoot.

In her Instagram content, she shares how having the vivo V80 Lite helps ease charging worries, allowing her to focus on her work and creative pursuits instead of constantly thinking about her phone's battery level.

For lifestyle content creator Bernadeth, a day exploring Binondo means making room for a little bit of everything: good food, coffee stops, work, and even a quick gym session.

With plenty to see and capture along the way, she features the vivo V80 Lite’s 10000mAh BlueVolt Battery, giving her more freedom to move between activities while creating content.

The phone's 50MP Sony Main Camera and 32MP HD Selfie Camera also let her document food finds, city scenes, and selfies throughout the trip, capturing the little moments that make a day out memorable.

More freedom to get on with a full day

Though their routines differ, the creators highlight a familiar consideration for smartphone users: having enough battery to stay connected, get things done, and capture experiences without constantly looking for a power outlet.

The vivo V80 Lite's 10000mAh BlueVolt Battery is designed to support extended use, making it a practical feature for people whose days often go beyond the usual nine-to-five.

Pre-order yours now until October 16 via the vivo Store app or vivo e-store to receive perks such as a Php 1,000 discount, free vivo Buds Air3 worth Php 1,799, and a Magnetic Premium PU Leather Card Case.

Inside Skyro's Credit Decisioning: Why more Data is Not Always Better

In digital lending, faster decisions are increasingly expected. But speed alone does not make a credit model better.

According to the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas’ 2025 Consumer Finance and Inclusion Survey, 31% of Filipino borrowers cite fast loan processing and approval as their top consideration when taking a loan.

For lenders, delivering that speed is more complicated than simply collecting more information.

Skyro, an SEC-registered fintech company, says its approach is built around a different question: which data actually improves a credit decision? The company uses a combination of traditional and alternative data sources, verification tools, behavioral analytics, and automated fraud monitoring to assess applications. According to Skyro, this approach has contributed to an up to 10% improvement in portfolio profitability while helping the company make faster, more informed credit decisions without compromising verification and risk controls.

For Emmanuel Ebuen, Skyro Head of Risk Portfolio Management, the value of alternative data lies not only in volume and more in how each source performs. “There are a lot of alternative data providers in the market for telco, credit bureaus, transactions, and more. For each of them, we test to learn which ones are most effective and economically efficient,” Ebuen said.

That distinction matters in markets where a borrower’s traditional financial footprint may be limited and where data quality can vary significantly across providers.

More data adds value when weighed carefully
Traditional credit assessment often relies on information from banks, credit cards, and previous loans. That can leave lenders with less information when evaluating first-time borrowers or people with little to no formal credit history.

Alternative data can add more signals to that assessment, but Skyro does not treat every source equally useful. Instead, the company evaluates data sources based on their reliability and predictive value, then combines those signals with other information available during the application process.

“Having more alternative sources adds more dimensions to how well we understand our clients. It makes decisions fairer,” Ebuen said.

For Skyro, this means alternative data is not intended to replace traditional credit evaluation. Rather, it supplements conventional information, particularly when that information alone does not provide a complete picture of the customer.

Making credit decisions fast without compromising care

Customers expect a quick response, but speed cannot come at the expense of careful assessment. For Serhii Shelest, Skyro Deputy Head of Risk, making credit decisions quickly means having the right verification and fraud controls working together throughout the process.

“Skyro combines several layers of verification and analytics to make fast credit decisions while keeping risks under control,” Shelest explained.

Its verification framework includes eKYC, or electronic Know-Your-Customer, document checks, liveness detection, face matching, and forgery detection.

Customer information is also checked against internal and external data sources. Skyro uses behavioral analytics, device signals, and environmental data to identify potential inconsistencies or suspicious activity.

Automated fraud and risk monitoring also runs throughout the application process. “The goal is not only to speed up approval times, but also to maintain verification quality and fraud prevention standards,” Shelest said.

For Skyro, the objective is not simply to make decisions faster, but to make them fast and carefully, using multiple layers of data, verification, and risk assessment to support each decision.

The bigger challenge is fragmented data

While alternative data creates more possibilities for credit assessment, Ebuen points to one structural issue that continues to affect lenders in emerging markets: fragmentation.

“The biggest challenge is data fragmentation. In many emerging markets, information is spread across different providers, and the quality and availability of data can vary significantly,” he said.

That fragmentation creates practical challenges. Data may not always be updated at the same speed. Integration between different providers and market participants can be limited. Some data services are expensive. Lenders also need to balance the amount of information they collect against data privacy requirements and customer experience.

The challenge, therefore, is not simply obtaining more data. It is determining which information is reliable enough and useful enough to influence a decision.

Skyro addresses this through a risk-based approach. The company prioritizes sources according to reliability and predictive value, while the level of verification can vary depending on the customer profile, product type, application quality, and risk signals detected during the process.

“If we identify inconsistencies or missing information, we may apply additional verification checks, request supplementary data, or use alternative data points to support the assessment,” Ebuen said. “The idea is to balance risk control with a smooth customer experience.”

Fraud detection is becoming part of credit decisioning itself

The same data used to understand legitimate customers can also help lenders identify activity that may signal fraud. For Shelest, this is where verification and antifraud become an integral part of the credit decisioning process.

“Some of the most common fraud cases in digital lending include identity theft, the use of mule accounts, synthetic identities, and multiple coordinated applications,” Shelest said.

As part of its antifraud framework, Skyro uses an Early Warning System (EWS) to analyze multiple risk signals and identify suspicious patterns. According to the company, the EWS flags about one in four fraud cases at an early stage, helping Skyro stop fraud before losses occur or minimize their impact.

The EWS is one part of a wider monitoring framework. Skyro also analyzes documentation verification results, customer and device behavior, duplicate patterns, risk indicators from internal and external sources, and anomalies that appear throughout the credit application journey.

The result is a credit decisioning process in which fraud detection, customer verification, and risk assessment are increasingly interconnected rather than treated as separate steps.

The next advantage may come from using data better

As digital lending continues to develop, the competitive advantage may increasingly come from how well lenders interpret the information already available to them.

For Skyro, that means continuously testing which data sources improve decision-making, adapting verification based on risk, and refining fraud controls as new patterns emerge. “At the end of the day, we want all Filipinos to have a fair chance at accessing financial services. Our technologies are constantly being upgraded to ensure the safety and convenience of both our current and future customers,” Ebuen said.

The bigger shift is not simply toward more alternative data, but toward more intelligent credit decisioning.  For lenders like Skyro, the advantage lies in knowing which signals are meaningful, how to combine them, and when additional verification is necessary. In a market where financial data can be fragmented and traditional credit histories incomplete, that capability can determine whether faster lending also becomes more accurate, secure, and scalable.

The future of digital lending will not be won by the lender with the most data. It will be won by those that know how to use the right data, at the right moment, to make better decisions.

SBFI Gives Plastic Waste a Second Life through Classroom Chairs

What was once discarded plastic is now helping children learn in Misamis Occidental.

Security Bank Foundation, Inc. (SBFI) donated 50 new classroom chairs made entirely from recycled plastic to Clarin Elementary School in Plaridel, providing students with much-needed furniture while giving waste a second life. The chairs were produced by The Plastic Flamingo (The Plaf), a social enterprise that transforms plastic waste into durable furniture. Delivery to the school was sponsored by LBC Hari ng Padala Foundation.

For years, Clarin Elementary School relied on aging classroom chairs that had been repaired repeatedly to keep them usable. Some students used stools without writing tables, while broken chairs were patched together as often as possible.

For the school's 118 learners, the donation helped address a longstanding shortage of classroom furniture.

"It is not only a donation but an answered prayer and a reminder that our learners are cared for and remembered," said School Head Maria Erica C. Ligason.

The chairs also offer a lesson in sustainability. Made entirely from recycled plastic, they show how discarded materials can be transformed into something useful and durable.

For Clarin Elementary School, the chairs address a longstanding need while giving discarded plastic a new purpose inside the classroom.

PH Businesses Must Build Workforce Resilience Amid Severe Weather Systems - AscentHR

13 October 2026 Manila, Philippines — As severe weather systems and typhoons continue to disrupt regular business operations across the Philippines, AscentHR, a leading provider of HR technology, payroll, compliance, and workforce solutions, is urging enterprises in the country to strengthen their operational resilience by modernizing their workforce management infrastructure.

This follows the latest data released by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), which reported a drop in average weekly hours worked from 40.6 hours in July to 39.2 hours in August this year. According to the PSA, bad weather was a primary factor causing millions of employed Filipinos to work fewer hours, directly impacting worker take-home pay and creating administrative complexity for employers managing variable shifts, overtime, and statutory reporting.

The latest PSA report also highlighted that while overall unemployment eased to 5.3% in August, underemployment remained high at 11.9%, representing approximately 5.9 million employed Filipinos seeking additional working hours or secondary income. Coupled with severe weather that forced disruptions, businesses face various challenges, including maintaining workforce productivity while ensuring fair, transparent, and accurate compensation during the affected operating cycles.

Labor market disruptions from extreme weather events are increasingly recognized as a macro-economic challenge across the Asia-Pacific region. According to the International Labour Organization (ILO), heat stress and extreme weather disruptions account for millions of lost working hours annually in tropical climate zones, significantly impacting labor-intensive and shift-based operations such as manufacturing, retail, logistics, and multi-site operations.

AscentHR emphasizes that while physical disaster recovery plans remain a priority for corporations, operational continuity must extend directly into workforce administration, particularly in managing fluctuating work hours, shift differentials, and complex pay calculations without administrative friction or compliance errors.

"Operational resilience isn't just about disaster recovery, but it's about having payroll and workforce technology agile enough to accommodate weather disruptions and seasonal hours without administrative drag," said Subramanyam Sreenivasaiah, Founder & CEO of AscentHR. "When extreme weather disrupts standard working patterns, business agility depends on automated shift tracking, flexible variable-pay engines, and real-time compliance safeguards that ensure employees are accurately compensated without delay."

As local enterprises gear up for anticipated fourth-quarter seasonal hiring and ongoing weather contingencies, AscentHR urges businesses to examine their HR tech infrastructure for flexibility, localized compliance, and real-time data visibility.

"As weather patterns become increasingly unpredictable, businesses cannot afford legacy HR and payroll systems that bottleneck operations during emergency adjustments. Investing in secure, automated, and compliant workforce technology protects both the organization’s bottom line and the economic well-being of its workforce," Sreenivasaiah adds.

As one of the top HR and payroll solutions providers in the APAC region, AscentHR enables enterprises to navigate regional compliance, multi-country payroll, and workforce volatility through secure, scalable platforms including PowerPay and StoHRM. By integrating AI-driven automation, cloud analytics, and localized compliance features tailored for the Philippine market, AscentHR helps organizations absorb operational disruptions while maintaining data security and employee trust.

Guided by the Dutch philosophy of “Everyday Balance,” VITBLISS replaces bulky traditional bottles with sleek, pre-portioned vitamin cards. Each card contains individual multi-dose cups that can be easily torn off for on-the-go use, eliminating the complexity of traditional supplement routines.

It offers particular value to young mothers, who often serve as primary health decision-makers in Filipino homes, by covering maternal wellness, personal vitality, and family healthcare in pre-portioned daily packs. It also supports older adults focused on mobility and bone health, and helps family caregivers manage multiple health regimens.
