TECNO and Angélica Dass Co-Launched “100 Portraits of Becoming,”A Living Archive of Human Possibilities

NAIROBI, KENYA, July 4th, 2026 As AI increasingly shapes how people are seen and represented, an urgent question emerges: how do we ensure technology reflects humanity in all its complexity?

TECNO believes the answer starts with a simple principle — technology should help the world see people more truthfully. With that belief, TECNO and Brazilian visual artist Angélica Dass launch 100 Portraits of Becoming, a two-year initiative that covers five countries and begins today in Nairobi, Kenya.

Co-created with Angélica Dass, the 100 Portraits of Becoming initiative aims to capture 100 authentic portraits of individuals worldwide and document their unique journeys of becoming. These portraits spanning diverse backgrounds serve as a testament to the human tapestry and spark a global cultural conversation surrounding authentic representation, identity, dignity, and human becoming in the age of AI.

This collaboration builds on a mutual commitment to recognizing the true diversity of human life, bringing together TECNOs inclusive imaging innovation, which helps individuals be represented more fairly, and Dasss human-centered approach to portraiture.

“Every image shapes assumptions  why it matters, who matters, and how people are understood. That makes fair and accurate representation increasingly important in the AI era. But beyond representation lies a bigger question: who is the real person behind the image?” said Jack Guo, General Manager at TECNO. “Through this project, we want to move beyond representation as technical accuracy alone and explore representation as recognition  enabling technology not only to capture people faithfully, but to help people feel truly seen. By moving beyond bias, labels, and stereotypes, we hope to build a future where technology reflects people more authentically and allows the world to understand them more fully. Truthful representation is the foundation of genuine human understanding.

“As a photographer, I realize that I can be a channel for others to communicate. The 100 Portraits of Becoming initiative with TECNO creates such a channel for people to speak for themselves and be seen on their own terms. That is why this collaboration with TECNO felt meaningful to me, said Angélica Dass.

“My portrait practice has always been less about documenting appearance and more about creating space for people to exist beyond assumptions. What moved me about this collaboration is the shared vision and the possibility of bringing that intention into a medium used by millions every day. I am excited that this initiative is not about defining people  it is about allowing identity to remain open, layered, and human. Because being visible is not the same as being understood. True recognition begins when we are seen as we really are.

Angélica Dass: Seeing Humanity Beyond Skin Tones

The collaboration with Angélica Dass is a natural extension of TECNOs vision and Dasss exploration of how technology, culture, and personal stories come together to create truthful forms of human representation.

As an award-winning Brazilian-Spanish visual artist best known for Humanæ  a global portrait series that challenges conventional ideas of racial identity  Angélica Dass recognized long before others that skin tones are more than just colors; they are reflections of unique cultures and individual identities. Her work emphasizes that every person deserves to be viewed as an individual rather than a category.

In her practice, Dass uses portraiture to let the individuality of her subjects come through, treating skin tone not as a label, but as an entry point into personal narratives. Her impact resonates far beyond traditional galleries; her 2016 TED Talk on skin and identity has reached over two million viewers, and her work has been showcased at leading platforms and institutions including the World Economic Forum, UNESCO, AMNH, the Migration Museum in London, and the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, while appearing in publications such as National Geographic, Vogue, and Foreign Affairs.

“One thing I appreciate about the 100 Portraits of Becoming initiative is our shared belief that portraiture is not simply about recording appearance visually. It is a way of questioning assumptions, challenging labels, and creating space for people to be seen and understood beyond stereotypes.”

From 100 Portraits to 100 Ways of Seeing Humanity in Five Countries

Through 100 Portraits of Becoming,” Dass will photograph 100 individuals across five countries, beginning in Kenya. Participants, who register via a dedicated global website, are photographed in natural light, without filters, and in attire of their own choosing to ensure maximum authenticity.

In addition to stepping in front of the lens, each individual will share their personal stories of growth and evolution, illustrating how they have navigated various cultural and societal shifts to become who they are today.

These portraits and narratives will be featured on the projects website, creating a Living Archive. This digital repository will serve as a space where individuals from all walks of life can be seen, heard, and understood as part of a broader human story. The archive aims to sustain a cultural conversation about dignity and identity as AI continues to redefine representation.

TECNO Universal Tone: Expanding What Technology Can See

100 Portraits of Becoming will be captured on the TECNO CAMON 50 Ultra, powered by TECNO Universal Tone Technology, which serves as the technological foundation for the project’s commitment to truthful representation.

Historically, mainstream AI models and imaging algorithms have often been trained on datasets that conform to a narrow range of aesthetics, leaving them unable to reflect the full diversity of humanity. As a result, people with non-fair skin tones have too often been misrepresented in mobile photography  over-brightened, underexposed, or rendered in ways that do not reflect how they truly appear.

Launched in 2023, TECNO Universal Tone is the industry’s most advanced AI-powered full-spectrum skin tone imaging technology. It integrates TECNO’s industry-benchmark multi-skin-tone color card featuring 372 skin tones and expanding, together with the industry’s largest and most accurate skin tone database.

By supporting more accurate capture of the full spectrum of human skin tones, Universal Tone enables the portraits in this initiative to begin from a place of fairness and authenticity. It helps ensure that each subject is not corrected toward a narrow standard, but represented with the dignity, nuance, and truthfulness that the project demands.

From Nairobi to the World: One Hundred Ways to See Humanity

100 Portraits of Becoming begins in Kenya for a reason. Home to one of the world's youngest populations and often described as the Silicon Savannah, Kenya represents a future that is already being shaped by the new generation  not elsewhere, but here. From pioneering mobile financial inclusion to advancing local innovation across industries, Kenya has long challenged assumptions about where progress begins. Yet representation often lags behind reality, giving way to assumptions. In global media and increasingly in AI-generated imagery, places like Kenya are still too often framed through inherited narratives rather than lived complexity.

In Kenya, this project starts from a different belief: people should not be defined by the stories told about them, but by the stories they choose to tell themselves. The inaugural portraits reflect that spirit  featuring entrepreneurs, farmers, dancers, artists, and daily creators whose lives cannot be reduced to a single narrative. They are not catching up with the future. They are helping define it.

People are always quick to tell you what you are and where you fit, said Alexander Odhiambo, a Kenyan participant in 100 Portraits of Becoming and co-founder of Solutech Limited, an enterprise software company serving manufacturers and distributors across Africa. I stopped waiting for that. The story that counts is the one I'm writing myself.

What begins in Nairobi doesnt end here. Over the next two years, 100 Portraits of Becoming travels to the Philippines, Saudi Arabia, Türkiye, and Brazil  building a living archive of people, identities, and the moments that define them. The first portraits and stories go live online in early August, marking the start of the full campaign rollout.

The future of imaging is not only about seeing more. It is about understanding more. Through one technology, five countries, and one hundred portraits, 100 Portraits of Becoming offers one hundred ways to see humanity, one story at a time.

How the OPPO A6s 5G Puts Everyday AI to Work

Artificial intelligence (AI) is steadily becoming part of everyday smartphone experiences, helping users complete common tasks without constantly jumping between different applications. Whether it's researching for a paper, brainstorming content ideas, editing photos before posting them online, squeezing in a few rounds of your favorite mobile game, or simply catching up on messages, AI is quietly removing extra steps from the process.

The OPPO A6s 5G, alongside its reliable hardware and long-lasting battery, brings together a collection of AI-powered tools designed to simplify everyday tasks with many of these features already built into the phone through ColorOS 16, making the entire experience more seamless.

Your Next Draft Starts with a Simple Prompt

For students juggling assignments or content creators planning their next post, getting started is often the hardest part. Instead of opening several browser tabs or relying on third-party apps, users can access an intelligent assistant directly from their OPPO A6s 5G.

The device comes with Google Gemini integrated into the experience, allowing users to brainstorm ideas, summarize information, draft messages, rewrite text, or generate content without switching to another device. A quick email draft while commuting, captions for social media, meeting notes, or travel planning can all begin from one place, saving both time and effort.

Perfect Your Photos the Smart Way

Editing photos has become part of everyday smartphone use. A picture might look great except for someone walking into the frame, poor lighting, or a slightly blurry subject. The OPPO A6s 5G includes several AI Camera features that work directly within the gallery, no other apps needed.

With AI Eraser 2.0, unwanted photobombers, distracting objects, or background clutter can be removed in just a few taps, while AI Unblur sharpens images affected by motion or camera shake to rescue memorable moments that might otherwise be discarded. AI Clarity Enhancer restores detail to older photos, zoomed-in shots, and distant subjects for a cleaner, more refined look, and AI Perfect Shot intelligently improves group photos by analyzing other images stored on the device to correct facial expressions or lighting, helping users capture everyone's best look without having to retake the shot.

Bring Your Ideas to Life in Just a Few Taps

Capturing a good photo is only half the process. Presenting it well matters just as much. The OPPO A6s 5G includes AI Studio and AI Recompose to help users improve their content without requiring advanced photography skills.

AI Recompose analyzes each photo and suggests better framing based on classic photography composition, making landscapes, portraits, and travel photos look more balanced with minimal effort. It's a helpful tool for anyone who wants cleaner social media posts but isn't familiar with manual cropping techniques. AI Studio, meanwhile, opens more creative possibilities by allowing users to transform their photos into fresh styles directly from the phone. Users can experiment with creative edits inside the built-in ecosystem, keeping the entire workflow simple and convenient.

Smart AI Meets #OPPOLangSakalam Performance in the OPPO A6s 5G

As AI becomes a bigger part of everyday smartphone use, the OPPO A6s 5G lives up to #OPPOLangSakalam by combining built-in AI tools, 60-Month Fluency for a reliable all-around performance, and a 7000mAh long-lasting battery to help users tackle everything from school work and content creation to photo editing and entertainment.

Let the OPPO A6s 5G show how everyday tasks are simpler, faster, and easier to accomplish from one device. For more information, visit OPPO Philippines’ official website at www.oppo.com.ph/ or OPPO Philippines’ official social media pages on Facebook, YouTube, and TikTok.

Build Harmony Across Filipino Families with Philips Karaoke Speakers

Family bonding has always been at the heart of Filipino culture. Whether it's a salu-salo where everyone insists you've "barely eaten," a catch-up that lasts until midnight, or a singing session that turns into a full-blown karaoke showdown, Filipinos know how to make every gathering one to remember. It's no surprise, then, that karaoke has, in many ways, stood the test of time.
Think about it: we've gone from cassette tapes to digital playlists, from cable television to streaming platforms, and from family computers to smartphones that rarely leave our hands. The way we enjoy entertainment has changed, but karaoke has remained a familiar part of Filipino homes, becoming the soundtrack to every chapter of family life—through celebrations, setbacks, milestones, and the everyday moments in between.
That enduring place in Filipino homes is what Philips has embraced over the years. As family bonding remains a constant in Filipino life, the brand has remained equally committed to developing karaoke speakers that fit naturally into these traditions, serving as the centerpiece that ties generations of families together.
Whether it's an impromptu sing-along after dinner or a weekend gathering with close relatives, the Philips Karaoke Speaker TAS2519 is designed to fit right into everyday family life. Its compact, portable design makes it easy to move wherever the fun happens, while its theatre-grade sound effects create an immersive audio experience that makes every performance feel special.
When the occasion calls for something bigger—like fiestas, reunions, or holiday celebrations—the Philips Karaoke Speaker TAS5819 is built to match the moment. Equipped with a 30 mm private soft ball top treble and a 3-inch bass classic configuration, it delivers balanced highs, mids, and lows, ensuring every duet, power ballad that uncles and aunties love to belt out, and family-favorite medley is heard with rich, clear sound.
At its core, what matters most in Filipino homes is not just the music itself, but the moments built around it. These shared experiences strengthen relationships and become part of the emotional fabric of family life, building connection and resilience along the way.
And in those everyday moments, Philips remains part of the tradition—present wherever families come together, connect, and turn time spent into time remembered.

Empowering Education: Vena Energy Mobilizes Teams and Resources Across the Philippines for Brigada Eskwela

[MANILA, PHILIPPINES 30 June 2026] - Demonstrating its unwavering commitment to sustainable development and community empowerment, renewable energy leader Vena Energy, together with its project companies across the Philippines, has mobilized resources and volunteers in support of the Department of Education's (DepEd) annual Brigada Eskwela program.

Through targeted donations of maintenance materials, classroom equipment, and employee volunteerism, Vena Energy has provided meaningful support to public schools within its host communities, helping create safe, clean, and conducive learning environments for thousands of students as they prepare for the new academic year.

This nationwide initiative reflects Vena Energy's Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) commitment to advancing education and strengthening community resilience alongside its mission of delivering clean energy. By partnering closely with educators, local government units, and community stakeholders, the company continues to contribute to long-term, sustainable development in the areas where it operates.

Brightening Classrooms in Samar

In Samar, the Gemini Wind Energy Corp (GWEC) project team worked on enhancing school infrastructure by donating specialized roof paints to 13 public elementary and high schools namely: Rizal Elementary School, Cacaransan Elementary School, Guinbaoyan Norte Elementary School, Migara National High School, Calbayog Arts and Design School and Early Childhood Care and Development (CADSEV), Basud Integrated School, Oquendo Central School, Cagbayang Integrated School, Cabatuan National High School, Tinambacan Central School, Salhag Elementary School, Bantian Elementary School, and Bugtong Elementary School.

This contribution ensures that the school facilities are well-protected against tropical weather conditions, giving students a more comfortable space to learn.

Harnessing Volunteerism and Shared Effort in Rizal

In Rizal, Pililla Wind Power Corporation (PWPC) combined material support with hands-on volunteerism. The company donated essential paint and cleaning supplies to Bugarin Elementary School, while a team of 33 volunteers comprising 13 employees from Vena Energy's Makati office and 20 site-based team members from PWPC joined teachers and parents in repainting classrooms and cleaning common areas.

Meanwhile, Sembrano Wind Power Corporation (SWPC) is enhancing classroom comfort through the donation of 32 stand fans to local schools. Malaya Elementary School will receive 20 units, while Niogan Elementary School will receive 12 units, helping improve ventilation and create a more conducive learning environment, particularly during warmer months.

Extending Assistance Across the Philippines

Further reinforcing this collective effort, Vena Energy's other project companies, including Mirae Asia Energy Corp., First Solar Energy Corporation, Helios Solar Energy Corp., and Asian Greenergy Corporation, also provided paint and cleaning materials to partner schools within their respective host communities.

Together, these initiatives represent a coordinated effort across multiple provinces, reflecting Vena Energy's shared commitment to supporting education and community well-being nationwide.

A Long-Term Commitment to Host Communities

"Our participation in Brigada Eskwela goes beyond preparing classrooms for the start of the school year. It reflects our deep commitment to being a responsible and trusted partner to our host communities," said Samrinder Nehria, Head of Vena Energy in The Philippines. "For us, sustainability means more than generating clean energy. It means investing in the infrastructure, well-being, and future of the communities where we operate, particularly the children who will help shape tomorrow."

Through these combined efforts in Rizal, Samar, Negros Occidental, Leyte, and Ilocos Norte, Vena Energy continues to strengthen the connection between renewable energy development and grassroots community support, embodying the spirit of bayanihan (communal unity) and helping build brighter futures through education.

School-in-a-Bag Reaches Far-Flung Schools in Southern Leyte

Students in remote schools in the province of Southern Leyte learn how to read and solve mathematical equations using interactive tech-powered educational tools found inside School-in-a-Bag (SIAB) packages. The latest deployment, sponsored by the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in collaboration with PLDT Inc. (PLDT) and Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart), the Department of Education Region 8, and the Philippine Business for Social Progress (PBSP), marks the global agency’s fourth and largest deployment of SIAB kits to date.

“Our mandate is to ensure that every child has equal access to quality education, especially those who are in the most marginalized communities. We hope this support will help drive meaningful changes in classrooms. These devices are not meant to add to teachers’ burden, but to help ease their workload and improve the overall teaching and learning experience for both teachers and students,” said Jieun Yoon, Education Specialist from UNICEF Philippines.

The recent turnover benefits 97 multigrade schools in hard-to-reach areas across the province. It underscores the long-standing collaboration between the UNICEF and the PLDT Group in making education more accessible and inclusive for Filipino learners. Since 2019, the partners have deployed more than 300 SIAB kits to last-mile schools across the country—bringing learning opportunities closer to children in remote and underserved communities. The initiative reflects a shared vision that every child, regardless of location or circumstance, deserves equal access to quality basic education.

“With the School-in-a-Bag, we aim to ensure that high-quality digital tools are within children's reach. We are grateful to have worked with UNICEF in reaching more remote schools in the region and bringing these portable digital classrooms directly to our learners,” said Roby A. Alampay, FVP and head of the Public Engagement and Corporate Communications Group at PLDT and Smart.

Benit Elementary School (Benit ES) in Malitbog, Southern Leyte, located about 38 kilometers from Maasin City, is among the beneficiaries of this year’s SIAB rollout. The support is expected to ease the burden of teachers due to personnel shortages.

“We are truly thankful to receive the SIAB funded by UNICEF. This is a big blessing for our learners, especially in multigrade classes where one teacher supports many students at once. With or without internet connectivity, teaching and learning can continue seamlessly because the kit also works offline. Our heartfelt thanks to UNICEF, PLDT, and Smart for helping us deliver accessible and continuous learning for our children," said Merry Ann B. Tagon, teacher-in-charge at Benit ES.

The School-in-a-Bag is PLDT and Smart’s portable digital classroom that carries a laptop, a Smart Bro LTE Pocket WiFi with load allocation, ten tablets, a comprehensive teacher’s guide, and a collection of digital learning resources. These include contextualized Learning Activity Sheets (LAS) and #LearnSmart educational applications designed to build literacy and numeracy skills in the learners’ Mother Tongue.

Under its #KonektedForLearning pillar, the PLDT Group, together with institutions like UNICEF, continue to bridge the digital divide and champion inclusive education. The SIAB project also supports the country’s efforts to achieve UNSDG 4 on Quality Education by utilizing the power of technology to uplift communities and help create a future where no learner is left behind.

Even better, they can continue with follow-up questions in the same conversation as the smart assistant remembers context within the session. It can also connect answers to the official Help Center articles if customers want to learn more or explore related topics.

“We know our customers value their time, so we focus on giving clear, personalized answers right away. With AI chat support, they can quickly get the information they need without searching through long articles,” explained Skyro Head of Customer Care Jorge Brisuela.

He added that the Help Center also aims to empower readers with knowledge to make informed financial decisions: “It’s not just about answering questions. We want our customers to feel more confident about managing their money by sharing helpful advice, even on things they may not have thought about yet.”

For general questions about Skyro products and services, customers can start with the Skyro Help Center. But if they have account issues or a personal request, the Customer Care team is always ready to help through the in-app chat. With the new AI-powered Skyro Help Center, users don’t have to search through multiple pages to understand how each product works. They can get clear answers anytime through the AI chat, 24/7.
