Converge Sustains Subscriber Growth with Revenues up 40% in Q1 2022

CONVERGE

The country’s leading fiber broadband provider Converge ICT Solutions Inc. has grown its revenues by 40% to P7.75 billion in the first quarter of the year compared to the same period last year, on the back of continued strong residential subscriber increase and accelerating demand from enterprise clients.

In its first quarter financial and operations briefing to the media, Converge disclosed that it registered gross subscriber adds of 188,000 during the quarter, up 15% from the last quarter in 2021, leading to a cumulative subscriber count of 1.8 million, higher by 53% compared to its year-ago level.

Meanwhile, core net income grew to almost P 2.0 billion in Q1 2022 representing a core net income margin of 25.4%.

“We are seeing a solid growth of our financials in the first quarter of 2022 and we expect to hit our full-year targets as we remain aggressive in our network rollout and marketing activities both in the residential and enterprise segments,” notes Converge CEO and Co-Founder Dennis Anthony Uy.

Further propping up revenue growth is the continued increase in its Enterprise business which encompasses small and medium enterprises (SMEs), Corporates, Large Enterprise, and Wholesale. The reopening of the economy and gradual thriving of SMEs has aided the segment’s growth. Revenues for the Enterprise business amounted to P935.5 million in Q1 2022, 25% higher versus P749.7 million in Q1 2021. SMEs contributed 20% to the total, and by itself grew by 118% year on year. SME subscribers of Converge reached 25,810 as of March 21, 2022 - a growth of 200%.

"The revival of the economy and the return of businesses - especially SMEs - has given our enterprise business a push in the first quarter of the year. Moving forward, we hope to offer more value to SMEs as they continue to recover," said Converge President, Chief Resource Officer, and Chief Risk Officer Maria Grace Y. Uy.

Converge continues to ensure Filipinos enjoy high availability, aggressively rolling out its fiber ports in Q1 2022 and reaching 6.5 million ports as of March 2022. This puts it on track to reach the accelerated target of 7.5 million to 8 million ports by 2023.

Nationwide household coverage as of Q1 2022 is at 47%. In terms of homes passed, 12.2 million homes in the Philippines are serviceable by Converge, which is 70% higher than the same period in 2021.

Despite its massive network investments, Converge maintained an industry-leading return on invested capital (ROIC) of 17.3%, due to the company’s disciplined approach in deploying capital to expand its fiber network and tracking key capital efficiency indicators such as port utilization ratios.

In the first quarter of the year, Converge acquired the Alaska Aces franchise and officially entered the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) under its own team, the Converge FiberXers in a bid to become a household name.

Recently, Converge was included in the exclusive and highly-watched MSCI Global Standard Indexes, the only Philippine company to be included in its latest rebalancing announced May 12, 2022. This inclusion will become effective on May 31, 2022. This further broadens the exposure of Converge to international passive investors and stands as further proof of its strong market position.

Converge on commitment to UP Maroons: “We’ve only just begun”

UP MAROONS CONVERGE

The connection is strong between the University of the Philippines Men’s Basketball Team (UPMBT) and Converge ICT Solutions Inc. as they inked a multi-season deal ahead of the 84th season of University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP).

The Fighting Maroons are among the top bets expected to go all the way in UAAP Season 84.

Converge ICT Solutions Inc. founder and chief executive officer (CEO) Mr. Dennis Anthony Uy expressed confidence in the Diliman squad, saying, “Given the caliber and talent of these young guys under Coach Goldwin [Monteverde], I expect no less than a Final Four finish.”

“Converge believes the Fighting Maroons are a strong and talented team that embodies UP’s tradition of honor and excellence on and off the court – values that we also strive for at Converge. This is why we decided to continue our partnership with the team for UAAP Seasons 84 and 85. This partnership goes beyond the court,” Mr. Uy added.

UPMBT team manager Atty. Agaton Uvero expressed appreciation for the assistance and support that Converge ICT Solutions has provided not just to the team but also to the UP community.

“We are truly grateful to Converge for their faith in us and for all the support they’ve given to the team and the UP community throughout these challenging times. This is only the beginning of a strong connection between the Fighting Maroons and Converge. Together we will do great things,” Atty. Uvero said.

Converge started supporting the UPMBT in 2020 during the height of the pandemic. Besides support for the basketball team, the telecommunication service provider supplied free internet connection to UP’s varsity student-athletes and other UP students who transitioned to remote learning because of the pandemic.

“Providing fiber connectivity for students and teachers is an advocacy that is close to my heart. It is a privilege for us to help create the classroom environment that will help students to excel in their studies. We will continue to contribute in this advocacy,” Mr. Uy concluded.

Converge Doubles Net Income in 2021, Books P7.2 Billion

CONVERGE NET INCOME

Leading fiber internet provider Converge ICT Solutions Inc. (PSE: CNVRG) more than doubled its net income to P7.2 billion in 2021 from P3.4 billion the previous year, growing by 111% on the back of record number of port rollouts, continued strong expansion of its residential subscriber base, and recovery of the enterprise business.

Converge reported on Thursday that it sustained its robust growth with total consolidated revenues reaching P26.5 billion last year, 69.2% higher than the P15.7 billion revenues posted in 2020.

“Our entry into Visayas and Mindanao contributed to our aggressive port rollout, and continued turn-in of subscribers in Luzon and existing markets pushed up our residential business revenues up by 83.2%. Our network has now passed 10.9 million homes and we’re covering around 42.5% of Philippine households. We’re confident of meeting our accelerated goal of reaching 55% of all households by 2023,” said Dennis Anthony Uy, CEO and Co-Founder of Converge.

The fiber internet company rolled out more than 650,000 ports in the fourth quarter, bringing its total port deployment to 2.4 million in 2021. It also reported quarterly net adds of 115,000 bringing its total residential subscriber count to 1.7 million by year-end, hitting the high end of management guidance.

“We sustained our industry-leading trifecta with another record financial performance in 2021,” said Converge President and Co-Founder Maria Grace Y. Uy, referring to the company’s 69.2% year-on-year revenue growth, 55.9% EBITDA margin, and 20.9% return on invested capital (ROIC), much higher than the average of broadband players in the Asia-Pacific region.

Uy noted that Converge also maintained its strong credit profile as reflected in the PRS AAA credit rating with Stable Outlook given by PhilRatings for its upcoming maiden bond issue. The proceeds of the bond issue will be used to partly fund its capital outlay requirements this year.

Converge announced that it has earmarked higher capital expenditures of P26 billion to P28 billion this year, with bulk allotted to fund the expansion of its access network nationwide and further extension of its fiber backbone. The company spent P25 billion for capex last year.

As of end-2021, the Converge fiber backbone reached 103,000 kilometers, passing through 495 cities and municipalities across the country. ###

Converge Reports Industry-Leading, Record Earnings with 9-month Net Income Surging 136% YOY to P5.2B

CONVERGE ICT

Leading fiber broadband provider Converge ICT Solutions Inc. (PSE:CNVRG) on Thursday reported a net income of nearly P5.2 billion at the end of September 2021, more than doubling at approximately 136% growth over the P2.2 billion net earnings booked in the same period last year, amid continued strong growth in its subscriber base and sustained recovery of its business segment led by small and medium enterprises (SMEs).

In the third quarter alone, Converge added a record number of almost 280,000 subscribers, bringing its total residential subscriber count to nearly 1.6 million, 75% higher compared to the same period last year. This was made possible as Converge reached peak levels in its port deployment at over 650,000 ports in the third quarter.

“We have completed our nationwide backbone, allowing us to expand into new areas in the Visayas and Mindanao, while continuing to go deep into underserved areas in Luzon. We have also augmented our sales force so that we can serve a broader number of our people with world-class fiber broadband connectivity,” said Converge CEO Dennis Anthony Uy.

As of end-September 2021, the nationwide network of Converge reached more than 9.6 million homes, allowing it to accelerate its target to cover approximately 55% of Filipino households to 2023, two years ahead of the original 2025 schedule announced during the Initial Public Offering last year.

With strong and continued subscriber take-up, the consolidated revenues of the Company grew by 76.4% year-on-year to P18.8 billion in the first nine months of 2021. Revenues from the residential business grew by 94.6% YOY, almost doubling to P16.4 billion during the nine-month period. Residential average monthly revenue per user (“ARPU”) remained steady at P1,346. On the other hand, Converge Business revenues grew by 8.5% YO, to P2.5 billion, mostly from the SME segment, continuing the reversal trend seen in the second quarter of 2021.

With increased scale and cost management initiatives, Converge once again achieved a record EBITDA of P10.37 billion in January-September 2021, representing an increase of 86% from the same period last year. As a result, Converge was able to improve its record consolidated EBITDA margin to 55.1% during the nine-month period, higher than the year-ago 52.2%.

In September 2020, Converge started to draw down on its international capacity from the Telstra Indefeasible Right of Use (“IRU”) contract, reducing the need to lease additional international bandwidth capacity. This, together with prudent management of our other international lease agreements, resulted in a reduction of bandwidth and leased line costs from 8.5% of total revenues in 3Q2020 to 3.5% of total revenues in 3Q2021. This cost reduction offset the increase of other cost items such as network materials and supplies used, which grew by 75.5% from 3Q2020 to 3Q2021 due to the ongoing subscriber acquisitions.

Converge also continued to lead the industry in the efficient use of its resources for investments with its Return on Invested Capital (“ROIC”) further improving to 21.7% at the end of September 2021. This best-in-class performance is a result of Converge’s record net profits during the period and its consistently disciplined approach in deploying capital to expand its fiber network and tracking key capital efficiency indicators such as our port utilization ratios.

In the past quarter, Converge also completed its P6 billion, 1,800-kilometer subsea cable project with its final landing in Coron, Palawan, connecting the country’s major islands to its domestic fiber backbone.

As of September 2021, Converge’s domestic fiber backbone is at 90,000 kilometers, passing through some 440 cities and municipalities nationwide and introducing its broadband service to new markets including Iloilo, Cagayan, and Cagayan de Oro.

Converge Debuts First “Fiber Fast” Business Center in Greenhills

Convergys Greenshills

Keeping its promise to continuously innovate its services, leading fiber internet services provider Converge ICT Solutions Inc., together with its marketing services provider, Myriad Real Properties Unlimited, Inc, on October 22, 2021 unveiled the Fiber Fast Lane – consisting of the Park N’ Apply facility, and its first ‘Drive-Thru’ payment avenue - in its flagship business center in Greenhills.

This ensures quick and efficient line application while limiting contact between subscribers and  service personnel.

In line with the goal of Converge to Go Deep in Luzon - further expanding its reach in existing markets - it fast-tracked the rollout of several business centers this month, key among them an innovative new branch in Greenhills, San Juan City.

“This is a novel way for us to serve the rising customer demand in a fast, efficient, and more importantly, safer manner. With the Park N’ Apply facility, you can apply for a Converge line in just a few minutes in a virtually contactless manner,” said Converge CEO Dennis Anthony Uy.

A customer can apply for a Converge broadband line in three steps:

  1. A customer may roll in and transact with a business center officer in the Park ‘N Apply slot, where he will be given a menu of broadband plans and services. Upon choosing, the officer will check necessary requirements.

2.     The customer may then fill out an application form. The business center officer will validate the area serviceability and application details, after which the application is considered in-process and the customer may exit.

3.     The business center will email a confirmation of the subscription and the schedule of installation.

These quick and convenient facilities complement the standard application and payment processes done inside the business center.

“For our customers who still want to talk to our customer service representatives, they can also walk-in to the company’s newest full service business center. Every Converge business center offers sales, payment, and after-sales services, plus a self-service payment kiosk to limit contact,” said Converge Chief Operations Officer Jesus Romero.

The Greenhills Business Center will soon make available its drive-thru payment avenue for easier, on-the-go bills payment.

“We fully support Converge’s commitment to serve more and more Filipinos through innovation and service improvements such as this unique drive-thru business center that will provide customers with ease and convenience in their transactions,” said Myriad General Manager William Sia.

The 2-storey business center in Connecticut Avenue, within the Greenhills shopping district is equipped with the standard health and sanitation equipment such as a thermal scanner and alcohol stations.

Converge began increasing its business centers starting 2020 to meet the surge in demand from both residential and enterprise customers.

Converge Takes Home Coveted Technology Company of the Year Award

CONVERGE AWARD

Converge ICT Solutions Inc., the country’s leading fiber broadband provider, continues to gain national prominence as it was recently awarded as the Straive Technology Company of the Year Award in the 12th Asia CEO Awards, besting seven other Philippine ICT companies for the coveted award.

Converge continues its winning streak in both the international and national stage for its demonstrated innovation and technological prowess with the recent win in the annual Asia CEO Awards. According to the national award-giving body, nominees of the Straive Technology Company of the Year award are judged according to: management achievement, financial contribution, recognition, pioneering achievements, and social commitment.

Thus, the category recognizes Converge’s excellence across the areas of technical expertise, financial growth, company reputation, and social responsibility - reflecting a well-rounded and holistic growth.

“With the increasing demand for reliable and consistent internet, we at Converge knew we needed to be more innovative and progressive in coming up with more solutions designed with our customers’ needs in mind. We are dedicated to deliver better online experiences by building

the right technology and infrastructure to empower people, businesses, and the nation,” said Converge Chief Operations Officer Jesus Romero as he thanked the Asia CEO Awards for the recognition.

Leveraging its all-fiber network and its modern, future-proof network infrastructure, Converge innovatively created a suite of broadband products customized to Filipinos’ needs, unlike any plan offered by other players in the market. Among its innovations is the FiberX Time of Day plans which allows customers to choose which period of the day to double their bandwidth.

Another innovation is the Direct Internet Access Upload (DIA Upload) a cloud connectivity solution that allows asymmetric download and upload bandwidth allocation. In this way, business can get the same quality of the premium internet service with two times upload speed, best for outbound traffic intensive business operation.

With innovation-led products such as these, Converge captured 47% of fixed broadband net adds amongst the three largest broadband operators in the Philippines in the second quarter of 2021.

Converge’s meteoric rise in the ICT space saw a major boost in 2020 as the pent-up demand for high capacity and high speed internet further shot up amid the pandemic. With its twin expansion strategy - Go Deep and Go National - already in place before the pandemic struck, Converge was in the best position to cater to the urgent need of the people for fast and reliable fixed broadband connectivity that can only be delivered by fiber technology.

Since 2020, Converge has gone from strength to strength, expanding nationwide coverage to 32.5% of households in the country, passing 8.3 million homes, going nationwide in service, and recording industry-leading revenue growth.

In the fourth quarter of the year, the fiber broadband provider is showing no signs of slowing as it will begin to service the Visayas and Mindanao islands more widely.

The Asia CEO Awards is the largest business awards event in the Philippines and one of the largest events of its kind in the Asia Pacific region. Its purpose is to promote the Philippines as the premier business destination for global enterprises.

3 September 2021 – Leading Philippine fiber broadband provider Converge Information and Communications Technology Solutions, Inc. (PSE: CNVRG) has inked a P3 billion term loan agreement with state-owned Land Bank of the Philippines (LANDBANK) to fund the completion of its terrestrial and subsea domestic fiber backbone network, as well as support the working capital requirements of the internet service provider.

“This loan financing brings us one step closer to our goal of connecting the unserved and underserved areas in the country. The available funds will help us reach into untapped markets, and really ‘Go Deep’ into existing ones,” said Converge CEO Dennis Anthony Uy.

“Our network investments are at the core of our service to Filipinos. There is still huge pent-up demand for high-speed broadband connectivity in the country. And the need for quality internet services became even more critical when the pandemic happened. Suddenly, the home became the office, the school, entertainment center, and marketplace in one,” he noted.

“This loan package will provide Converge with financial flexibility as we continue to connect Filipino households to our pure fiber network nationwide,” said Converge President Maria Grace Uy. “We expect this financing facility to strengthen our balance sheet and help us reach our goal of covering 55% of Filipino households by 2025.”

It recently commercially rolled out its services in Cebu province and did a soft launch in Davao City.

“As you further expand your domestic network, broaden your distribution reach, and secure additional access to international connectivity, we in LANDBANK affirm our commitment to support you in meeting these objectives. In terms of inclusivity, Converge’s “Go Deep” strategy to penetrate unserved and underserved areas is aligned with our own, as LANDBANK promotes financial inclusion by serving unbanked and underserved Filipinos,” said LANDBANK President and CEO Cecilia Borromeo during the signing ceremony.

As of end-June 2021, the pure fiber network of Converge has passed over 8.3 million homes, more than double the figure from its year-ago level. This accounts for 32% of total Philippine households and 57% of total homes in Luzon.

Converge ICT beats other providers in Netflix’s ISP Speed Index

Converge ICT

MANILA, Philippines, February 2, 2021 – Popular streaming service, Netflix, has long taken the Philippines by storm. With content ranging from animated movies perfect for kids and kids-at-heart, works from talented local filmmakers, to feel-good K-dramas, more and more Filipino subscribers are hooked to Netflix.

As an online streaming service, availing a Netflix subscription and enjoying the millions of hours of its content, uninterrupted and in the highest possible quality, require a stable internet connection for subscribers to fully enjoy their viewing experience.

Netflix’s ISP Speed Index is designed to measure which ISPs provide the best prime time Netflix streaming experience.

Great quality streaming is synonymous with Netflix, the online streaming service has come up with its own index to reveal which ISP performs the best and can most likely let a subscriber best enjoy their time on Netflix. Read more about the Netflix ISP Speed Index here.

Why is this important? Because Netflix’s stories are best delivered on a strong internet network, which is not only about speed but also about latency, jitter and packet loss. Absent this, video viewers will have issues with buffering, pixelization, etc. Moreover, there is now a lot of 4K or UHD content on Netflix which provides a much better immersive viewing experience but requires more bandwidth. On its website, Netflix recommends a minimum of 25Mbps for 4K video which is very well supported by Converge’s recent permanent free speed upgrades where its entry level P1,500 plan is now at 35Mbps from the previous 25Mbps.

According to the December 2020 Netflix ISP Speed Index, the latest local iteration, Converge tops the board at 3.4 Mbps. Converge has been leading the Philippine ISP leaderboard for the last 6 months as can be seen from the ISP Leaderboard website.

As the leader in providing pure end-to-end fiber internet, Converge ensures this commitment also extends to its subscribers who enjoy consuming their fair share of entertainment, which includes Netflix.

With the introduction of free speed upgrades of up to 300 Mbps for its consumer plans last December, subscribers can continue to expect the best streaming experience and make more memories with the online platform with Converge.

“The changes we have felt arising from the pandemic has led many to explore their options for at-home entertainment, and we are pleased to see that Converge’s pure fiber internet has allowed its subscribers to enjoy the very best of online streaming platform Netflix, uninterrupted and in the highest possible quality. Our showing in the latest Netflix ISP Speed Index illustrates our commitment to continue providing fast and affordable internet to our subscribers,” said Converge Chief Operating Officer, Jesus Romero.
