MARVEL-RELATED SEARCHES ON CAROUSELL OUTNUMBERED GAME OF THRONES’ BY OVER 14 TIMES

Kuala Lumpur, 22 April 2019 – This April will go down in history for two things, and two things only – the highly anticipated release of Marvel’s Avengers: Endgame and the final season of popular TV series, Game of Thrones (GOT).

Both premieres are happening so close together and the franchises have begun to occupy more and more of Carousell users’ minds, with over 30,000 searches on the classified marketplace for Marvel and GoT related listings.

Interest in both franchises naturally approached a fever pitch as each respective premiere date drew near, and this was reflected in Carousell’s search data. From January to April 2019, the total number of searches for Marvel increased by a little over 115%, and the total number of searches for GoT by a staggering 345%.

Both are cultural behemoths, with stories that span across years and an overwhelmingly large and intricately linked web of characters, culminating in April. Zooming into the first two weeks of the month, where the excitement really takes off, reveals how truly popular each franchise is among Malaysians.

Marvel-related searches in Malaysia completely dominated GoT-related searches, with more than 28,000 searches, outnumbering them by over 14 times. It has accounted for almost 0.24% of all searches made on Carousell in the past four weeks.

According to Carousell’s global in-app statistics, the most searched character of all time in the Marvel Universe is none other than the charismatic billionaire, Iron Man, with more than 500,000 searches to his name.

The original Avengers line-up, Hulk, Thor and Captain America also joined Iron Man as the top searched characters on Carousell. Meanwhile, bad (or misunderstood) guy Thanos, saw almost 100,000 searches, placing him just behind Spider-Man.

On the other hand, GoT’s protagonist Jon Snow is the most searched for character with more than 1,800 searches. Surprisingly, the Night King is a close second with just over 1,600 searches. A clear case of life imitating art, as Jon Snow and the Night King head for an epic showdown in the final season.

The most valuable Marvel-themed item sold on the app was a limited edition Avengers themed pinball machine for more than USD4,000 (RM16,595.60). Meanwhile, an entire set of 32 Game of Thrones Funko Pop toys was sold for USD610 (RM2,530.83) in Singapore.

If you’re looking to get your hands on any Marvel or GOT merchandise, look no further than Carousell. Even better, if you’re sitting on some themed merchandise, now it’s the time to make some extra money and list them on Carousell.

For Immediate Release CAROUSELL RECORDS 45.1 PERCENT SURGE IN LISTINGS DURING CHINESE NEW YEAR SEASON

Carousell, one of the world’s largest and fastest growing classifieds marketplaces, today shared that the number of listings on the platform rose by 45.1 per cent to 678,853 listings during Chinese New Year festive season. Women’s fashion, Men’s fashion, Health & Beauty products, Babies & Kids’ products, and Gadgets were the top five categories on the platform during the period.

This is compared to the the same period last year when listings on Carousell grew by 20 percent, proving that the platform is proactive in its approach to promoting decluttering, and selling unused and underused items in the house.

“The Chinese New Year festive season is when a household traditionally declutters as part of spring-cleaning and in preparation for the annual celebration. The surge in listings on Carousell this year shows that Malaysians are becoming more aware of each item’s value, and instead of throwing things out are choosing to list their preloved goods on Carousell,” said Tang Siew Wai, Country Head of Carousell Malaysia.

This year, Carousell has taken the initiative to drum up spring-cleaning and promote declutter, which led to the release of four videos online as part of its  “Sell on Carousell” campaign. The series that depicted a family of four conducting spring cleaning in preparation for the festive season has successfully garnered over 4.1 million views on various social media platforms.

Siew Wai also acknowledged that the rapid rise in Internet adoption across Malaysia also contributed to the surge. “More Malaysians can now access to Carousell to conveniently buy and sell preloved goods at a reasonable price.”

On 11 January 2019, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) announced that a total of 87.4 percent of Malaysia’s population uses the Internet compared to 76.9 percent in 2016. The statement also indicated that digital transactions are also on the uptrend as Internet users are the catalysts in developing a wider digital ecosystem in the country.

A survey conducted by Carousell in late 2017 revealed that 46 percent of Carousellers in Malaysia owned up to nine unused or underused items at home. Only 29 percent of this group would go on to sell their items for additional income.

There remains plenty of opportunities for Malaysians to discover the joy of decluttering and earn some extra cash at the same time.

Carousell’s #MakeSpaceForLove Helps Malaysians to Declutter Their Exes’ Items on Valentine’s Day and Chap Goh Mei

Kuala Lumpur, 19 February 2019 – Valentine’s Day is over but the Chinese community celebrates Chap Goh Mei (Chinese Valentine’s Day) today. In conjunction with the month of love, Carousell Malaysia launched a campaign, #MakeSpaceForLove, to encourage Malaysians to let go and sell their ex’s items of its marketplace.

“Decluttering your ex’s items is one of the most effective ways to move on from a failed relationship and find something better for yourself. We expect that more Malaysians will follow suit to make space for new love,” said Tang Siew Wai, Country Head of Carousell Malaysia.

Last year, 5,733 Malaysians transacted on the classifieds marketplace during Valentine’s Day and that number has increased by 15% to 6,596 transactions this year. It’s clear that that Malaysians are utilising Carousell in more and more unique ways.

The campaign that took place on its marketplace also initiated a contest where users are required to illustrate the reason behind the selling of their ex’s items. Winner of the contest, @bubblejasmine said, “I am selling my book, ‘The Infinite Moment of Us”, because it has taught me unconditional love. Not all loves are meant to lasts (sic) forever but it is more important to understand the meaning of true love.”

It is not over until you declutter your exes’ items. For more information, follow Carousell on https://my.carousell.com or download the Carousell app from the Apple Store or Google Play Store.

Sitting is the New Smoking

The simplest guideline for all of us would have to be, “Sit less and move more, ”  according to close to 2,000-member Philippine Heart Association (PHA) and  the  husband and wife tandem of  fitness gurus,  Jim and Toni Saret.

Yes, there’s a direct relationship between time spent sitting and your risk of early mortality of any cause. As your total sitting time increases, so does your risk of an early death.

Sitting  for around eight hours a day at the workplace increases the risk of contracting heart disease, cancer and diabetes by 40 percent. Actually, it can cause killer legs, too.

Majority of the world population is in the working age-group. This group are always on the computer.  Glued on their seats for eight hours, they lead sedentary lifestyles, while facing different kinds of stress which leads to unhealthy eating (stress eating) and lifestyle. Most of them are unable to engage in appropriate physical activities for their physical and mental well-being. And in worse cases, some do not have the means to cope with stress and maintain mental health.

Eating healthy, exercising regularly, maintaining a healthy weight, and avoiding vices like alcohol and cigarettes are ways of preventing major lifestyle diseases such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes and cancers as well as other risk factors such as raise blood pressure, raise blood sugar level and  obesity. However, awareness and practices of these healthy benefits are still low among the working population

The Philippine Heart Association (PHA), a non-stock, non-profit organization of 1,780 Filipino cardiologists is committed to foster exceptional cardiovascular education and primary care for everyone. Living up to its mission, the PHA aims to do its share on the awareness on preventive and management of heart diseases. The initiative encourages employees to improve their physical and mental well-being, and effectively address sedentary lifestyles by launching a campaign called “Sneakers Friday.”

“Sneakers Friday” capitalizes on promoting physical activity. It is meant to promote workplace health and wellness where personnel are encouraged to wear sneakers, casual top and pants every Friday as a “dress down day.”

The PHA’s “Sneakers Friday” campaign builds on the perspective that individuals have the ability to adopt healthy lifestyles when supported by a conducive workplace environment that promotes “healthy eating, healthy habits and physical and mental fitness.”

In order to obtain a healthy lifestyle, it is important to incorporate wellness in all aspects of one’s life, including the workplace. Corporate wellness generates many positive outcomes for their employees as well as the company itself. Even a simple activity such as walking (or brisk walking, with100 steps per minute) has so many powerful health benefits. When done correctly and regularly, it can be the key to losing weight, lowering blood pressure and cholesterol, and boosting your memory as well as reducing your risk for developing heart disease, diabetes, cancer and more. Walking could be done effortlessly without interrupting corporate work. One can also choose to take the stairs rather than ride the elevator or when one parks the car, choose the farthest end so you’d have more time to walk.

The “Sneakers Friday” initial campaign got off the ground spearheaded by medical professionals and cardiovascular experts themselves in November of 2017 with the Makati Medical Center as its launching site, followed by The Medical City where every last weekday was officially declared as “Sneakers Friday.”

Today, May 22, 2018, The “Sneakers Friday” campaign is officially launched. This ultimate goal of this campaign is to encourage the corporate sector to integrate more physical activity into their hectic pace and to make them aware that the corporate sector is the paragon of good health.

The benefits of incorporating a wellness program like “Sneakers Friday” in your workplace:

Aside from promoting a healthy lifestyle, it relieves employee stress, and it also promotes employee camaraderie. Setting time aside for employees to exercise can help reduce stress and overall sitting time. It also releases endorphins (happy hormones) and in the process creating happier and more energized employees. With a better mood and more energy comes more productivity!

Incorporating the Sneakers Friday campaign is great for promoting employee fitness and health. Partaking in physical fitness activities is proven to lower one’s chances of getting sick, which in return will ultimately lower health care costs for employees and the company. In addition, there’s an increase productivity as employees take fewer sick days too.

Employees get to know fellow employees outside of work. With a great group activity that allows co-workers to get to know each other better, employees will get the benefits of physical activity and the socialization that comes along with the group exercise.

With the “Sneakers Friday” campaign, coupled with healthy habits and lifestyle, the PHA looks forward to seeing happier and heart healthier Filipinos.
