UPS ANNOUNCES MORE ENHANCEMENTS TO EXPRESS SERVICE IN THE PHILIPPINES

UPS

MANILA – May 22, 2023, Global logistics leader UPS (NYSE: UPS) has announced the latest enhancement to its services in the Philippines in a move that will help the country’s businesses capitalize on growing consumer demand for global e-commerce deliveries.

The enhancement, which speeds up delivery times to more postal codes in Luzon, comes at a time of rapid growth for the e-commerce industry in the Philippines. It means deliveries of the UPS’s Worldwide Express shipments to more areas of Metro Manila and Pampanga can now be completed several hours earlier, either by 12:00 noon or 2:00 p.m.

This is the latest in a series of enhancements by UPS to its services in the Philippines, and follows the expansion of the company’s airport hub in Clark to increase package processing capacity. UPS also recently announced the relocation of its Cebu Center nearer to the Mactan-Cebu International Airport to offer customers more flexibility and a widened time window of up to one hour to consolidate export shipments to meet same-day departure.

“E-commerce is one of the biggest cross-border trade growth opportunities available today, particularly for small and medium-sized businesses (SMB),” said UPS Philippines Managing Director Russell Reed.

“Our own research shows that helping SMBs stay competitive is key to intra-Asia trade achieving its full potential by the end of the decade. This is why we continue to work to level the playing field by improving and enhancing the services we offer to our customers so that they can manage their inventory more efficiently, process more orders on a daily basis, and reach more of their customers faster than they could before.”

Results from UPS’s intra-Asia study show that the Philippines’ trade with 11 other leading economies in Asia Pacific could more than triple by 2030, with digitalization, e-commerce and inclusive policies for small businesses all providing growth opportunities.

The Philippines’ digital economy is expected to reach a gross merchandise value of $35 billion by 2025, up from $20 billion in 2022, according to a report by Google, Temasek, and Bain & Co. The e-commerce sector will be its main driver, which is projected to hit $22 billion by 2025, growing at a compound annual growth rate of 17% between 2022 and 2025.

Billed as the biggest domestic trade event since the onset of the pandemic, the 2022 Hybrid National Food Fair brought together MSMEs from the country’s 17 regions to showcase their wares for Metro Manila consumers and also provided B2B business matching opportunities for institutional buyers. For this year's event, 76 new MSME exhibitors were able to comply with the requirements which qualified them to participate in the fair.

Recognizing the growing importance of e-commerce, at least 70 MSMEs also sold their products through permanent online stores on the Lazada e-commerce platform’s simultaneous virtual event, accessed through http://tinyurl.com/nationalfoodfaironlazada.

A digital catalog, SISIDLAN, served as a business matching tool by showcasing more than 270 food entrepreneurs and their products in full color with direct access to their digital stores, social media links, and contact information. Through SISIDLAN, buyers and consumers can directly contact all participating HNFF exhibitors for negotiations and order bookings. It is available for download on this link: https://bit.ly/SISIDLAN.

As the premier domestic trade show for food entrepreneurs, the 2022 HNFF included special settings to elevate the food fair experience. Show highlights included a Negosyo Center One-Stop-Shop; Digital Partners Lounge; Fresh Produce Pavilion; KAPEtirya Philippine Coffee Pavilion; PINASarap! Innovative Food Gallery; Tara, Kain Tayo! Tablescape and Bar Special Setting; and #FlexPHridays Photo Wall Corner. A special setting by the Design Center of the Philippines focused on “FOODTURES: Key Directions in Functional Food,” while the DTI-Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program had a Negosyo Agraryo special setting.

During the fair, the daily program of activities delivered a total of 28 business talks, 9 cooking demos, 4 wine-mixing shows, and 4 video presentations. The workshops were open to the public and were also livestreamed on BDTP’s Facebook page.

The physical component of the 2022 Hybrid National Food Fair was held from June 1-5 at the Megatrade Halls of SM Megamall in Mandaluyong City. The online component on the Lazada e-commerce platform was extended until June 8 as part of Lazada’s 6.6 mid-year Mega Sale.

As a result, the demand for tech talent has been on the rise in recent years. Among the many interesting components of the GLP, CJ says what caught her attention the most was the regional experience and exposure it offers. “Working with other teams from various countries is a great opportunity to learn about different cultures and gain new perspectives and insights that can help further the industry in our country.”

Currently working with Shopee’s Business Development team, CJ’s exposure to different functions allowed her to grow, adapt and learn new things every day. “I am constantly pushed and supported to become a better version of myself every day. The projects that I handle allow me to develop problem-solving, critical thinking, good leadership, and proper time management skills. Seeing how e-commerce campaigns are brought to life, and how people communicate and collaborate to achieve success regularly definitely inspire me to keep growing and eventually contribute.”

The program definitely builds your business acumen and widens your perspective on e-commerce as a whole. GLP is a great training ground to become a better problem solver. Not only do we get to analyze and solve real business problems, there are also many resources available to us. I personally enjoy the GLP training and gatherings wherein we get to hear from GLPs from other countries,” Jan shared.

Lance, on the other hand, sees GLP as an informative learning experience that opened his eyes to the industry’s broader spectrum. “I’ve always been interested in technology and startups, especially startups that create a new business model and innovation that is grounded on a new perspective or set of values. I wanted to join GLP because I felt it was a great opportunity to develop key leadership and problem-solving skills, while also getting exposure to tech-related businesses and the world of startups,” Lance added.

It is definitely a unique training experience that exposes you to highly skilled mentors, all the way to challenging and enriching projects,” Jan explained.

Read up on the program details on the Shopee website and if you find yourself excited or curious about the rotations and challenges in e-commerce, then you should give it a shot,” Lance shared.

One2Shop: Making e-Commerce Fast and Easy for Today’s Market

Contrary to what you might have read or heard, the oldest profession in the world is none other than trading. And thanks to the Internet, its impact on our lives only gets bigger and bolder every year. There are a lot of e-commerce websites that now cater to the needs of online shoppers everywhere. Surprisingly, there are none that cater specifically to the tastes and wants of Filipinos.
Enter One2Shop, the newest e-commerce destination for Filipino online shoppers located all over the Philippines. Up until now, the bulk of the "online shopping malls" available in the country have been mostly foreign. But with One2Shop, these e-commerce websites will finally have the much-needed local touch that users will love.
According to a recent research conducted by Google, more than half of the population in the Asia Pacific region prefer to shop through mobile apps. Meanwhile, over 40% like to use their browser to visit their preferred e-commerce web sites. This is also very reflective of the recent Black Friday shopping spree where 40% of the purchases were all done online.
The opportunity to capture a meaningful portion of the market is definitely hard to pass on, especially since the coverage of shopping sites just keeps on growing.
One2Shop aims to grow right alongside the growing e-commerce market, harnessing the power of both the web and various social media channels to better engage its target audience.
One2Shop’s advantage over competing digital platforms is its use of the latest high-tech solutions available for e-commerce websites. Its back-end is built on top of Amazon Web Services, and it relies on various social media channels and advertising networks to deliver its content and offerings to its users.
One2Shop will first be available through its official web site, one2shop.com, and then through the One2Shop mobile app for Android.
