Globe Group Celebrates Women's Month with Spotlight on New Generation of Female Leaders

As the Philippines observes National Women's Month, the Globe Group celebrates the remarkable rise of female leaders within its ranks, emphasizing a commitment to gender equality and leadership diversity.

The Globe Group continues to be recognized as a hub of excellence for women, with female employees making up 44% of its workforce and holding 53% of executive positions within the organization.

This achievement is particularly significant given the 2022 Global Gender Gap report, which recognized the country as the leader in female representation in the boardroom in the Asia-Pacific region with a 41% rate.

The Globe Group's initiatives go beyond numbers, concentrating on fostering and motivating women leaders to not only succeed in their respective areas but also set the stage for the future generation.

"The success of Globe lies in the diversity and dynamism of our leaders. Our female leaders, in particular, embody the values and vision that drive us forward,” said Ernest Cu, Globe Group President and CEO.

This Women's Month, the Globe Group highlights the ascent of three female leaders who combine their professional pursuits with personal advocacies, driving forward innovations in technology. Their diverse backgrounds and shared passion for excellence exemplify the dynamic and inclusive culture at their respective companies.

Susana Beatriz "Beia" Latay, the newly appointed CEO of KonsultaMD, brings her vision of accessible telehealth services into reality, stressing the importance of informed healthcare decisions. With an illustrious career that includes leading investments in Ayala Healthcare Holdings Inc., she aims to position KonsultaMD as a key player in the healthcare sector.

"Our goal is to serve as a dependable ally throughout our users' healthcare experiences, particularly in moments when the complexity of navigating the healthcare system seems daunting," said Latay.

On the other hand, Joan PeƱaflorida began her journey at Yondu as a consultant and has been at its helm since 2014. Under her guidance, Yondu has flourished into a premier IT solutions provider, equipping businesses with cutting-edge technological solutions.

"At Yondu, we believe in harnessing the power of technology not just to drive business forward, but to create an environment where talent thrives and hard work is recognized. I am proud to lead a team that is as dedicated to innovation as it is to nurturing a supportive and engaging workplace,” she said.

In 2019, PeƱaflorida was honored with the Asia CEO Awards' Circle of Excellence for her impactful leadership and innovation. In the same year, she was also nominated as EY Entrepreneur of the Year, which is a testament to her forward-thinking approach and leadership.

Meanwhile, Irish Salandanan-Almeida, Globe’s Chief Privacy Officer, leads the company’s efforts in data privacy. Her leadership in promoting privacy awareness reflects a dedication to enabling individuals with the knowledge to protect themselves online, where threats and risks thrive.

"In a world where many of our daily transactions and interactions are online, safeguarding privacy becomes not just a responsibility but a mission. At Globe, we are committed to setting the gold standard for data protection and empowering our customers and employees with the knowledge and tools to secure their information. This commitment is deeply personal to me, especially as a mother striving to create a safer digital future for all our children,” she shared.

The Globe Group remains dedicated to uplifting Filipino lives through innovative solutions, with women leaders at the helm steering the company towards a brighter and more inclusive future.

Globe Group, Local Partners turn Lolo, Lola into #SeniorDigizens in Digital Inclusion Push

Globe Group, Local Partners turn Lolo, Lola into #SeniorDigizens in Digital Inclusion Push

Leading digital solutions platform Globe Group is set to transform the digital landscape for Filipino seniors with its innovative "Teach Me How To Digi" #SeniorDigizen Learning Session, set on January 25 at the Skydome, SM North Edsa.

Gathering at least 220 senior citizens in half a day of enriching tech learning, the #SeniorDigizens event is backed by some of the biggest brands in tech and retail, and by senior citizen advocates from the government.

“It’s really very important that our senior citizens learn digital skills because in the future, a lot of services will truly become fully digital. We have to help the seniors overcome their fear. And I guarantee you that once you try it, it’s going to be as easy or much easier than the old manual way,” said Ernest Cu, Globe Group President and CEO.

“As digitalization accelerates, tech adoption should be simple and easy for everyone, no matter the age. Technology should not be intimidating or difficult for our seniors, and they should be able to enjoy its benefits. The goal of our #SeniorDigizens campaign is to equip them with knowledge that will help them adopt new tech and apps that address their day to day pain points,” said Yoly Crisanto, Chief Sustainability and Corporate Communications Officer of the Globe Group.

The event features learning sessions on digital skills: How to create a Gmail account to be facilitated by Google, a 101 course on using smartphones via Globe, and sessions on using fintech platform GCash and telehealth service KonsultaMD.

Apart from hosting the event at Sky Dome, retail giant, SM, is providing an opportunity for senior citizens to join the Super Grannies Club (SGC), the grandest Facebook community for seasoned individuals. As SGC members, participants gain early access to events, exclusive mall deals and updates on SM Cares programs. These include health and wellness activities like Walk for Life, the award-winning Emergency Preparedness Forum and community service programs that enable a fun, active and productive lifestyle for lolos and lolas.

SM’s loyalty program SMAC, meanwhile, sponsored the event in SM Malls, as it is one with Globe in giving importance and joy to senior citizens.

“We are happy to support Globe in bringing to fruition our shared vision of digitalizing seniors. SM has long given seniors priority in our initiatives, and so our partnership with Globe for the #SeniorDigizens campaign is natural and seamless,” said Jay Beltran, Head of Sales and Marketing, Digital Advantage Corporation (DAC).

The National Commission of Senior Citizens (NCSC), led by its Chairperson and CEO Atty. Frank Quijano, has a booth where seniors will be guided on how to register in its database, which the agency hopes to build to take stock of the living situation, health concerns, skills and other important information about the country’s roughly 11 million senior citizens. The NCSC will also bring volunteers to help seniors in tech tutorials.

“We thank Globe for embarking on this program that addresses major concerns when it comes to seniors: digitalization and online safety. We at NCSC have been pursuing our own efforts to bring the elderly into the digital space safely, and we are happy to find an ally in the private sector to introduce seniors to new technologies while at the same time protecting them from the dangers that lurk online,” Quijano said.

Rep. Milagros Aquino-Magsaysay of United Senior Citizens Partylist is also on board, bringing senior citizen delegates to the event.

“We’d like to congratulate Globe for giving seniors priority through its #SeniorDigizens campaign. This is an initiative worth emulating. United Senior Citizens Partylist is one with Globe in seeing this through,” said Aquino-Magsaysay.

The Quezon City government also brought a delegation of senior citizens to the event and provided crucial logistics support.

“The city government of Quezon City is proud to partner with Globe in this undertaking. In QC, we give our seniors top priority in terms of public services to help them live their sunset years as active and productive members of society. This project is key in helping them transition into a digital life and help them enjoy the benefits of modern technology,” said Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte.

Meanwhile, #TeamGlobeofGood influencers Kiray Celis and Chuckie Dreyfus are lending their talent and bringing entertainment to the event, while internet personality Lester “Buji” Babiera, a talent of Globe Group agency NYMA, is bringing his brand of dynamic hosting onstage.

The #SeniorDigizen learning session, a significant effort to close the digital divide for the elderly, follows the success of the “Teach Me How to Digi” TikTok contest held in September last year. The contest received over 200 impressive videos showcasing tech lessons imparted by younger family members to their senior loved ones.

At the event, Globe will award 25 winners with prizes worth P25,000. They will also get to take part in the learning session.

"We are excited to help our senior citizens take their first steps into the digital world, ensuring they are not left behind in this fast-paced digital era. This event is our commitment to ensuring that they are not just consumers of technology but actively engaged in the evolving tech-savvy society,” said Liza Reyes, Public Relations and Communications Strategy Head at the Globe Group.

Globe’s #SeniorDigizens campaign promises not only to educate but also inspire a new generation of empowered seniors, ready to engage and connect in today's rapidly evolving digital environment.

Globe’s Hapag Movement Fulfills Wishes of Cebu Scholars through ‘Wish’ Screening

HAPAG MOVEMENT

CEBU CITY– Until that evening two weeks before Christmas, 22-year-old Michelle Camus had never been to the cinema. She had only seen movies on television, hearing from friends all about the “ambiance” in a movie theater.

“They say inside the cinema it’s lights off. I thought the lights were turned on. I really wanted to experience this, watching in the cinema. This is not just my wish. Ginusto ko talaga makarating sa cinema (I really wanted to go to a cinema). And at the age of 22, I’m here. So napakasaya naman nito (I’m really happy about this)!” she excitedly said.

Camus is among 69 scholars of Tzu Chi Foundation who were treated to a full cinematic experience organized by Globe’s Hapag Movement, with support from the We Are Ayala Business Club - Cebu (WAABC-Cebu). The scholars enjoyed a private screening of Disney Animation’s latest musical comedy “Wish” on December 12 at the Ayala Malls Central Bloc.

Indeed, it was a wish come true for the scholars, all students of humanities classes under Tzu Chi, among Hapag Movement’s implementing partners. Not only did they get to watch the movie in a private screening in one of Ayala Cinemas’ most comfortable theaters, they also got to enjoy fun games, prizes, food, drinks and other surprises.

“For me it’s a great privilege. Bihira lang maka-join lalo sa ganitong pagkakataon, especially with scholars of Tzu Chi Foundation and together with the Hapag Movement. We’re so blessed. And hopefully marami pang matulungan ang Hapag at napaka-blessed namin sa taon ngayon dahil isa kami sa naimbita sa araw na ito (It is very seldom that we get this kind of opportunity, specially with scholars of Tzu Chi Foundation and Hapag Movement. We’re so blessed and hopefully, there will be more people that the Hapag Movement will be able to help. We are really blessed this year because we got to be invited to be here today),” said Shyrwin Rondina, also among scholars invited to the screening.

Mariel YbaƱez, Certified Commissioner at Tzu Chi Foundation Cebu, said: “These activities will help our scholars learn more about life through movies. In Tzu Chi, we teach them values and through this movie “Wish,” they will learn a lot. That’s really the teaching of Tzu Chi, for us to become a star for other people,” YbaƱez said.

At the special screening, Patrick Gloria, Globe Group Vice President for External Affairs, spoke to the scholars about the Hapag Movement and thanked collaborators that made the event possible.

“This special screening organized by Globe is supported by WeAreAyala Business Club - Cebu for the benefit of the Hapag Movement. The Hapag Movement is a program where we help the most vulnerable people in society, especially children. We make sure we feed them right and give their families livelihood training so that they will have a sustainable source of income to put food on their table.  Thank you for doing this with us and let’s do this again next year,” Gloria said.

By leveraging technology and partnerships, the Hapag Movement aims to help 100,000 families battling involuntary hunger through supplemental feeding and livelihood training.

Globe, SMAC Renew Partnership vs Involuntary Hunger via Hapag Movement

Leading digital solutions platform Globe and SMAC, the customer loyalty program of SM Retail Inc., have renewed their partnership to raise funds for the Hapag Movement, an initiative that aims to help Filipino families battling involuntary hunger.

Globe and SMAC are holding a second run of the fund-raising campaign, inspired by last year’s success that led to PHP5.5 million in funds raised for the movement, with the support of SM brands and retail affiliates, and millions of SMAC members.

From December 15, 2023, to January 31, 2024, each SMAC kit bought at SM Stores will turn into a meaningful contribution to the movement, with PHP50.00 from every sale going to the Hapag Movement and the SM Foundation. SMAC’s participating brands will also donate on behalf of members when they shop at their stores during the campaign period.

These brands have joined forces with SMAC to support the cause and make the program a much bigger success this year. Participating brands include:

SM Fashion at the SM Store

       Levi’s

       Forever 21

       Ecco

       Simply Shoes

       The Body Shop

       SM Beauty

       Our Home

       Crate & Barrel

       Kultura

       SM Appliance Center

       Surplus

       Sports Central

Reflecting on the partnership's journey, Yoly Crisanto, Chief Sustainability and Corporate Communications Officer at Globe said: “The Hapag Movement is about creating lasting change. Our partnership with SMAC shows how collaboration and shared values can create a powerful force for good. As we enter our second year, we remain dedicated to harnessing the power of technology and community to make a tangible difference in the lives of those we serve.”

Over the past year, Globe and SMAC have synergized their resources and networks to significantly impact people’s lives. In the first year of their partnership.

The support not only provided immediate relief to affected families but also fostered a sense of solidarity and purpose during the festive season. It also funded Supplementary feeding and livelihood initiatives carried out by Hapag Movement implementing partners Ayala Foundation Inc, Tzu Chi Foundation, and World Vision.

We have been moved and inspired into action by the Hapag Movement as it fights a major issue in the country today. We believe and have seen the malasakit of our brands and members basing off the results from last year’s campaign, where we raised PHP5.5M through our member purchases. Not only did we help make Christmas get brighter last year, it also became much more meaningful. This is what inspired us to do another round of the Hapag Movement campaign this year,” said Jay Beltran, Head of Sales and Marketing, Digital Advantage Corporation (DAC), which operates SMAC.

With their partnership renewed, Globe and SMAC are committed to expanding the reach and deepening the impact of the Hapag Movement.

Nearly 1 in 10 Filipino families experienced involuntary hunger at least once in the past three months, according to the Q3 2023 Social Weather Stations Survey conducted from September 28 to October 1. To help address the problem, Globe and SMAC invite individuals and organizations to join this noble cause.

Aside from SMAC points, contributions to the Hapag Movement can also be made through various channels, including GCash, credit card donations, and Rewards points via the GlobeOne app.
