Globe Strengthens Bacolod’s 5G Network as the City of Smiles Celebrates MassKara Festival 2025

BACOLOD CITY, October 2025 – As Bacolod celebrates the MassKara Festival, Globe powers the celebration with reliable, high-speed 5G connectivity, underscoring its strong support for the City of Smiles.

More than a celebration of music and masks, MassKara represents the Bacolodnon spirit of resilience and optimism. This same spirit drives Globe to keep building stronger, faster, and more meaningful connections that enable progress and empower communities.

“MassKara is all about joy, connection, and resilience, the same values that define Globe,” said Roche Vandenberghe, Chief Marketing Officer at Globe. “We’re proud to bring world-class connectivity, including Globe 5G, to Bacolod, so everyone can share their stories, celebrate, and go forward together.”

This year, Globe is ensuring that every smile and every story from MassKara can be shared in real time through expanded 5G coverage across Bacolod City. To support the surge of festival-goers, the company has boosted network capacity through additional broadband lines in major activity zones, including Lacson Street, SM Bacolod, Robinsons, Paglaum Sports Complex, and the Public Plaza. These enhancements guarantee smooth livestreams, quick uploads, and seamless connectivity throughout the celebrations.

Bacolod and Negros Occidental now have more than 300 Globe cell sites, including 5G, providing fast and dependable coverage across the province. In 2025, Globe is expanding further with more than 30 5G improved sites, reinforcing Bacolod’s position as a 5G-powered digital hub in the Visayas.

Across Negros Oriental, Globe operates over 100 sites, bringing the total to nearly 600 Globe cell sites across the island. This makes Negros one of the most connected provinces in the country, supporting both everyday life and large-scale events like MassKara.

To complement its network upgrades, Globe is enhancing the festival experience through the GlobeOne app, which serves as an all-in-one digital companion for visitors. From October 17 to 19, festival-goers can drop by the Globe Festival Experiential Platform along Lacson Street to spin the “Wheel You Win,” redeem Globe Rewards for personalized MassKara merchandise, join the GFiber’Oke and enjoy fun games and raffles.

Arriving passengers at the Bacolod-Silay Airport from October 13 to 17 are also welcomed by Globe SIM booths, helping them stay connected from the moment they land. The celebration peaks on October 17 with the G Music Fest at Capitol Lagoon, featuring performances by The Dukes, Earl Agustin, and Infinite Ridge, bringing together locals and visitors for a night of music, smiles, and connection.

Globe’s partners GCash, Jollibee and Pettr add more excitement through on-ground activities, prizes, and exclusive experiences that make MassKara brighter and more connected than ever.

As the festivities conclude, Globe’s network continues to drive Bacolod’s growth in tourism, education, retail, and logistics. With each new 5G build, Globe helps ensure that the city’s smiles stay connected, strong, and future-ready.

Globe Brings Learning, Music and Inspiration to Students in Cagayan Province

Cagayan province is home to over 3.66 million people, with youth aged 15 to 24 accounting for nearly one-fifth of its population. Internet use is widespread, with three out of four residents aged 10 and above already online. Yet, many continue to face barriers in accessing and maximizing digital tools in ways that are safe, responsible, and creative.

To help bridge these gaps, Globe launched a series of engagements that gathered more than 750 students across the region, providing lessons on digital citizenship, leadership, and creative expression.

Building on this effort, Globe organized a three-day program in partnership with three institutions. The sessions combined digital literacy modules, leadership workshops, and creative platforms designed to nurture future-ready communities in Cagayan province.

Investing in the Next Generation

Globe’s programs in Cagayan province reaffirm its commitment to prepare young Filipinos for the future by strengthening their digital skills, leadership abilities, and creative platforms for self-expression.

“As we saw in Cagayan province, young Filipinos are already shaping their own futures with technology, leadership, and creativity. At Globe, we see the youth not just as future leaders but as leaders of today. Our role is to stand beside them as they build a better tomorrow for their communities and the nation,” said Raymond Mancilla, Territory Business Head.

A Generation of Innovation, Leadership, and Community

In Cagayan, Globe’s Digital Thumbprint Program (DTP) is empowering students to be not just digital natives but active changemakers. At PeƱablanca National High School, 250 students joined DTP sessions on responsible digital citizenship. Instead of passively waiting to learn, they shared the advanced AI tools they already use in their studies, such as Nomunity, Study Talk, Perplexity, Blackbox AI, and Scholar.ai — proof of their openness to innovation and their ability to find new ways to learn.

At Cagayan State University, more than 350 student leaders gathered to explore how leadership can be rooted in everyday actions that shape their peers and communities. Through DTP and complementary workshops on inclusivity, responsibility, and student voice, participants were encouraged to see themselves as active drivers of change.

The program culminated in the TM Fun Music concert, which brought together over 2,500 students from the CSU Andrews and Carig campuses. Performances by Amiel Sol, student artists, and local talents transformed the event into a celebration of creativity and community spirit.

“We sincerely thank our partners at Globe for sharing their time, efforts, and resources with the students of Cagayan State University Andrews Campus. Through the Digital Thumbprint Program, we were reminded of the importance of using technology responsibly, while the concert gave us a chance to celebrate and come together as one community. These activities brought both learning and joy, leaving a lasting impact on us as more informed, connected, and inspired individuals,” said Kyle Aron Tan, CSU Student Regent and Andrews Campus Student Council President.

Beyond the Skills

For the 150 medical student leaders at the Medical Colleges of Northern Philippines, DTP offered more than lessons on digital responsibility. It became a reminder that in healthcare, leadership is not measured only by knowledge but also by empathy, ethics, and accountability. “The seminar was an eye-opening experience for all the student leaders, making them realize the importance of being responsible digital citizens in today’s fast-changing online world. I believe that each of us gained practical knowledge on how to protect our identity online, secure our personal information, and be more critical when encountering content on social media especially with the rise of fake news and misinformation,” said MSNP-ISAP Student Activities Coordinator, James Vidad.

From classrooms to concert stages and from leadership workshops to personal journeys, Globe’s work in Cagayan province highlights one truth. The brilliance of Filipino youth is the country’s greatest harvest. By nurturing their potential, Globe is helping shape a generation of leaders, creators, and changemakers who will carry the promise of a brighter future.

#BoyRaket

#Pets, #PetWelfare, #Dogs, #Cats, #Pettr, #CareForPets, #PAWS, #Telecom, #GlobeTelecom just as important. Globe wants to make pet care essentials  accessible to every Filipino pet parent, strengthened by its partnership with Pettr, the country’s first all-in-one digital pet care platform.  Globe is  integrating pet wellness into everyday connectivity. Through its Go+99 offers, subscribers receive a ₱100 discount voucher for teleconsultations with licensed veterinarians and other vital services, helping pet-parents access the services they need.

Recognizing the opportunity to authentically demonstrate its commitment to animal care and welfare, Globe, in partnership with the Philippine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS), a non-profit, volunteer-based organization dedicated to sheltering rescued animals, preventing animal cruelty, and promoting the humane treatment of animals, is also launching a series of pet-care initiatives, beginning with employee engagement programs such as volunteer activities, donation drives, and awareness campaigns to support PAWS’ advocacies.

The initiative kicked off with Volunteer Day last September 25, 2025, at the PAWS Shelter in Katipunan, Quezon City, where up to 50 Globe employees donated pet-care amenities and spent the day feeding, cleaning, and reading to the shelter’s cats and dogs. This hands-on experience reflects Globe’s belief that care begins within, living out the same values of compassion and community that the company advocates externally.

“This initiative is about showing our people and our partners that care is not just a campaign - it’s a culture,” said Roche Vandenberghe, Chief Marketing Officer at Globe. “We try to uplift Filipino lives everyday at Globe and with pets as part of people’s found families, we’re extending that culture of care into everyday life, making sure that even our customers’ companions receive the attention and support they deserve.”

With these efforts, Globe continues to evolve as more than a connectivity provider, fostering a culture of care within its own community.  By celebrating pets as part of Filipino homes, Globe affirms that compassion lives in everyday bonds that truly matter.

Globe Introduces SMS Scam Shield to Help Protect Customers from Rising Text-Based Scams

Globe has launched a new SMS Scam Shield feature on the GlobeOne app to help protect users from the growing threat of text-based phishing attacks, particularly those sent through spoofed Globe or GCash sender IDs. The feature, currently available to Android users, is Globe’s latest move in bolstering customer security in the face of increasingly sophisticated fraud tactics.

Spoofing and phishing scams typically disguise themselves as legitimate messages, often from trusted sources like Globe, GCash, or banks, in an attempt to trick users into clicking malicious links or revealing personal information. These types of scams have surged in recent years, especially those generated through rogue devices known as IMSI catchers that mimic cell towers.

“SMS Scam Shield is our way of giving customers more control and peace of mind. With this built-in protection, users are alerted via the GlobeOne app when they receive suspicious messages that may contain dangerous links or impersonate Globe-affiliated brands,” said Coco Domingo, Globe Product Experience Vice President.

Once activated on the GlobeOne app, SMS Scam Shield scans messages locally on the user’s device while ensuring privacy, and alerts users with a push notification if a message is suspected to be a scam. The system also helps detect fake sender names like “GLOBE,” “GLOBEREWARD,” or “GCASH,” and flags messages with phishing links.

To date, over 34,000 GlobeOne users have enabled the feature. Since rollout, the system has already identified more than 13,000 phishing messages, just weeks into its launch.

Globe subscribers can activate and use SMS Scam Shield for free within the GlobeOne app. Once permissions are granted, the app automatically starts protecting the user from fraudulent messages. For those concerned about privacy, Globe emphasized that it does not read or store SMS messages, the scam shield runs entirely on-device and only collects harmful links to strengthen the system’s defenses.

The feature also supports community reporting through https://www.globe.com.ph/stop-spam, encouraging users to report scams and contribute to wider link blacklisting.

SMS Scam Shield is part of Globe’s broader commitment to building a safer digital experience for Filipinos. It complements the company’s other cybersecurity efforts and serves as an early step toward integrating more AI-powered threat detection and protection across its platforms.

“Security shouldn’t be an afterthought,i t should be seamless. This is just the beginning of more proactive tools we’re building into our digital services,” added Domingo.

Globe encourages all Android users to activate the feature through their GlobeOne app and take an active role in protecting themselves against SMS scams. To activate in the GlobeOne app, select “Profile” followed by Security Settings”.

More than 3,000 volunteers were assigned to different activities. Some joined disaster response efforts by repacking relief and hygiene kits with ABS-CBN Foundation/Sagip-Kapamilya and Save the Children, while others worked with Ayala Foundation to prepare food packs for schoolchildren. Education and youth-focused initiatives included assembling Kindness Boxes for primary students with World Vision and holding livelihood projects with Project Pearls and GROW Nanays. To promote inclusion and well-being, Ka-Globes partnered with Special Olympics Pilipinas, an organization supporting athletes with special needs, for an athlete care kit preparation. Environmental action also played a role, as employees supported Hands On Manila’s Bokashi Project, creating eco-balls to help clean the filthy esteros in Manila.

Team Globe of Good Brand Ambassadors joined the efforts, dedicating their time alongside employee-volunteers and demonstrating the company’s culture of care in action.

Complementing volunteer efforts were fundraising initiatives such as T-Shirt for a Cause, where employees contributed a portion of their work hours or salaries. Through this collective spirit, Ka-Globes initially pledged to raise ₱917,000 for partner beneficiaries, and to date have surpassed expectations by generating over ₱2 million.

Our employees are Globe’s greatest asset, and this celebration is more than a day of appreciation, it’s a testament to our shared purpose of care, malasakit, and innovation. Together, let’s make every day a GDay. Globe celebrates you.”

“Today we celebrate two milestones in our company’s history: 10 years of 917 GDay and 10 years of Employee Volunteer Time Off,” said Yoly Crisanto, Chief Sustainability and Corporate Communications Officer. “Your small acts of kindness combined  create a resounding Globe of Good. And creating a Globe of Good is our purpose in action, it is relatable, impactful, and above all human and humane.”

Dream It, Do It: BINI and Students #GoForIt with Globe

Globe is creating spaces where ambition meets opportunity, offering internships, mentorship, grants, volunteering, and youth-led events that spark inspiration. Globe recently launched their #GoForIt campaign with BINI, pairing eight student dreamers with the eight members of BINI, not just as stars on a pedestal, but as peers who know the same late nights, doubts, and pressures.

Together, they showed that dreams come in all shapes and sizes, whether it’s becoming a photographer, digital illustrator, model, journalist, scientist, game designer, or performer. From rocking the stage to creating the next big breakthrough, every path is worth pursuing.

“Globe not only connects people through a network, but through communities as well,” says Clareene, a Polytechnic University of the Philippines  student dreaming of becoming a digital artist.

One Beat, Many Dreams

BINI knows what it’s like to chase a dream that feels out of reach. From long training days to topping the charts, they have faced the same doubts and roadblocks as many students today.

“Kahit din may mga doubts kami nung una, since Globe believed in us, that allowed us to believe in ourselves,” shares BINI Aiah.

“‘Di kailangan magmadali para magwagi, buhay ay ‘di karera,” adds BINI Maloi, reminding everyone that life and dreams are not a race against anyone else, but a personal journey you take at your own pace.

These moments with BINI show that they’re not just stars, but young women who once dreamed like today’s students. Whether in music, medicine, entrepreneurship, or digital art, one truth stands: no matter the dream, hold on to it, and go for it.

Globe’s Game Plan for Student Success

“It’s a lasting commitment, this is Globe’s promise to give young people the tools, skills, and support to turn ambition into achievement.  We empower today’s youth through the Globe Student Program, which connects classroom learning with real-world experiences. Students can explore opportunities to join special Globe events, volunteer initiatives, and exclusive student raffles designed to inspire and engage,” says Roche Vandenberghe, Globe’s Chief Marketing Officer.

Beyond experiences, the program also unlocks Student Rewards on the GlobeOne app, where exciting perks await. From partners like Ayala Museum, Museo Pambata, beep™ card, Timezone, Jollibee, and more, students can enjoy discounts, treats, and learning experiences tailored just for them.

Simply search “Student Specials” on the Globe Rewards page in the GlobeOne app to discover offers tailored to students. Whether through reliable connectivity, learning platforms, digital tools, or mentorship, the challenge isn’t being alone, but being ready to Go For It!

The Rhythm of Ambition

Like BINI’s music, Globe’s message speaks to Filipino student youth from all walks of life. There is no single path to success, it starts with courage, grows with persistence, and flourishes when the right support is within reach. That is why #GoForIt is not just a message but a movement for every student, dreamer, and future leader to take their shot.

Different Dreams. Same Drive. #GoForIt with Globe.
