Thinking of Going Home This Summer? Here’s How to Make It More Manageable

There’s something about summer that naturally makes you think of home. It’s in the longer days, the school breaks, the fiestas, and those familiar moments that feel best shared with family.

But let’s be honest, traveling home to the province isn’t as easy as it used to be. Rising costs and day-to-day expenses have turned what was once a simple “Uwi ako this weekend” into something that needs a bit more planning.

The good news is that going home is still possible. With the right preparation and a little help when you need it, those summer plans don’t have to stay as “sana.” They can turn into something you can actually look forward to. Because at the end of the day, going home isn’t about spending big. It’s about being there.

Making Essential Trips More Manageable

Start with a clear, realistic budget
Planning your trip early can make a big difference. List down your expected expenses, from transportation and meals to small extras, so you know exactly what to prepare for. If you're flying back home to visit the family, you don’t have to shoulder the ticket cost all at once. GGives lets you book your flights now and pay in lighter, split payments, so you can manage the cost more comfortably over time.

Prepare for unexpected gastos
Even simple trips home can come with surprise costs like extra rides or pasalubong. Whether you’re heading home via bus or taking a ferry to the province, you can stay flexible by using GCredit to book your tickets via QR. You can travel now and pay later, with a limit of up to 50K. If you’re driving, you can also use GCredit via GBills to top up your RFID on the go, for an uninterrupted road trip.

Space out your expenses when you can
Booking early, watching for seat sales, or planning ahead can help spread costs over time. And when timing matters, especially during peak travel seasons, GLoan offers instant cash access to give you the flexibility you need. Easily manage fares across different modes of transport as needed, and keep your journey moving without the stress.

Focus on what truly matters
A meaningful trip home doesn’t have to be elaborate. Sometimes, it’s the simplest moments, like sharing meals, catching up, or just being present, that make it worthwhile. With the right support to help manage costs, you can focus less on the stress and more on the time spent together.

A Little Help Goes a Long Way
Sometimes, all it takes is the right kind of support to turn plans into reality, especially during summer when being home feels even more important.

GLoan – Instant Cash for Your Travel: For moments that can’t wait, whether it’s a family gathering, a special occasion, or a much-needed visit, GLoan helps you secure your trip with quick access to funds.
GCredit – Pay Later for Everyday Travel Expenses: From terminal fares to food along the way, GCredit lets you cover essential travel expenses instantly and pay later, helping reduce hassle when your GCash balance is running low.
GGives – Split Payments for Heavier Travel Expenses: For bigger commitments like airfare, hotels, or planned trips, GGives lets you break payments into more manageable installments, helping you plan ahead without the pressure of paying everything upfront.

This summer, going home can still be something to look forward to. With a bit of planning and the right support, it becomes less about “Kung kaya ba?” and more about “Kailan ako uuwi?” Because sometimes, the journey home to the province is exactly what you need, and now it’s closer within reach.

So if it’s been on your mind, take it as a sign. Baka kaya na. Baka pwede na. And this time, going home can feel a little more within reach.

GCash Study Now, Pay Later Supports Students’ College Journeys to Help Build their Future

Working students are now a step closer to finishing their studies through the Study Now, Pay Later (SNPL) program of Fuse Financing Inc., the lending arm of GCash. This flexible lending option powered by GGives provides students and families with an instalment-based payment system that covers up to 100% of tuition with no down payment and lower interest rates.

For many Filipinos, financial challenges remain the biggest barrier to completing a college degree. Tertiary education in the country faces high dropout rates, with financial strain as the primary cause. The SNPL program seeks to help close this gap and empower more students to finish their education.

A financial safety net for students

As for the 21-year-old accounting student, Xander Gandionco faced his own hurdles. As the eldest of three siblings, he worked as a service crew employee to help support his family and fund his education. While he managed to balance both responsibilities, there were moments when tuition became a concern.

Discovering the SNPL program through an email from his school changed that. The fast approval and manageable terms gave him a lifeline to continue his education. “I thought I wouldn’t be able to enroll this semester. But when I saw that I was approved for the loan, I gained hope,” he shared.

Managing the tightrope of income and tuition

The most profound impact, however, is often felt by those who are completely independent. Lee Visitacion, a 21-year-old Psychology student and a call center agent in a BPO company, has been living and supporting herself for almost 10 years. Her life, which she describes as "independent", meant there was no safety net when an unexpected financial crunch hit during the enrolment deadline.

“There was a time when I didn't have hope because it was the last week of enrolment, and I was planning to abandon my job,” Kim recalls. “But when the loan was approved, it was a big help because it allowed me to enroll.” The quick and easy approval process was a lifesaver that prevented her from dropping out at the last minute.

Similarly, Crysquei Aiko, a 22-year-old Information Technology student, described her life as "challenging" because she supports herself entirely, managing expenses like rent, bills, and food alongside her studies. For her, the loan provided necessary breathing room when her salary couldn't stretch far enough.

"My income is divided for rent, bills, food, and tuition, which makes it tight for my studies," Crysquei explained. The realization of the financial challenge hit when she risked not being enrolled. By accessing SNPL, she was able to use her income to manage her monthly commitments while ensuring her education continued. "The loan helped me enroll on time when I didn’t have enough money, which gave me the chance to continue my studies."

For these students, the program represents more than just a payment option—it's a commitment to their future. With features such as flexible payment terms, full tuition coverage, and easy-to-meet requirements, the program makes it possible for more Filipinos to continue pursuing their college education.

“At Fuse, we believe in a future where financial limitations do not stop a student's dream. Our Study Now, Pay Later program is a testament to this, as we provide fair and inclusive lending to empower the next generation,” said Tony Isidro, president and CEO of Fuse Financing Inc.  “This is another step toward our commitment to easing the burden of upfront school fees and helping more students unlock the opportunity of a college education.”

The experiences of Xander, Lee, and Crysquei show how inclusive lending can change lives and empower Filipinos to build a better future for themselves and their families. The Study Now, Pay Later program is more than a financial solution — it is a vehicle for improving access to education and reducing dropout rates in the country.

“Hindi mo Kailangang Gawin Lahat Mag-Isa.” Ayon sa Celebrity Moms sa Hirap ng Back-To-School Season

MANILA, Philippines – School’s officially back, and with it the early mornings, baon prep, never-ending shopping lists, and long days for parents – especially moms. In the newest episode of Mommy, G Ka Na?, celebrity host and mom of two Jolina Magdangal-Escueta opens up about the pressure of balancing her numerous responsibilities during the back-to-school season.

Together with guests Dimples Romana and Angeline Quinto, the candid conversation turns personal, and the three moms share personal stories, smart strategies, and comforting words for moms who may be overwhelmed with the back-to-school rush. They remind each other, “Hindi mo kailangang gawin lahat mag-isa.”

Amid the laughs and real talk, Jolina, Angeline, and Dimples reveal some of their back-to-school survival tricks.

Angeline, for example, swears by the power of a cute lunchbox (or fun shapes) to get her kids to eat.  “Kahit simpleng sandwich lang, basta cute ang baunan, ganado na agad si Sylvio,” she shares.

She and Jolina also agree that fancy recipes aren’t necessary. Instead, a little bit of creativity and a whole lot of love go a long way. As Jolina puts it, “Hindi kailangang mahal ang baon, basta punong-puno ng effort at love, ramdam ‘yan ng mga anak natin.”

Then there’s the never-ending to-do list. Groceries, bills, errands. Sometimes, when schedules get too packed, there are things forgotten along the way. For when it gets overwhelming, the three moms all agree - shopping online and paying with GCash is the ultimate lifesaver. While doing the laundry or helping with their kids’ homework, they can check off items on their grocery list without even leaving the house!

Dimples, meanwhile, brings up the challenges she faces having to keep up with the constant stream of expenses once the school year starts.  From school projects and extracurricular activities to unexpected gastos, the financial pressure doesn’t end after enrollment.

“Kala mo tapos ka na, pero may bagong shoes, uniforms, at pang-extracurricular pa pala,” she opens up. Her solution? Breaking down the big-ticket items. With GCash’s GGives, she can split purchases like gadgets or sports gear into smaller payments, with zero down payment needed.

And of course, there are the surprise expenses – like when emergencies happen. For those moments, Jolina reminds viewers that they can lean on GCredit, which provides users with a credit line of up to PHP 50,000.

For even bigger needs like tuition fees, there’s also GLoan, which lets users borrow up to PHP 150,000 instantly, with affordable terms and quick disbursement straight to their GCash wallet. “At least alam mong may masasandalan ka. Hindi ka kakabahan agad,” they agree. It's peace of mind for those who are faced with unexpected expenses before payday.

Watch Mommy, G Ka Na? online

Throughout the episodes, a recurring theme emerges: moms can learn a lot from other moms. “Okay lang humingi ng tulong,” Jolina reminds viewers. “May mga kapwa mommy, may mga tools — tulungan tayo.”

Stream Mommy, G Ka Na? on the official YouTube channel of GCash. Join the conversation online with fellow moms finding gaan and ginhawa in every stage of school-year parenting by following @gcashofficial on Instagram and Facebook.

GCash Advances Cashless Ecosystem and Financial Literacy in the BPO Sector

GCASH FINANCIAL ECOSYSTEM

GCash, the country's leading mobile wallet app, is working toward building a cashless ecosystem for the business process outsourcing (BPO) sector, considered the biggest private employer in the country, by introducing a suite of products and services to fit the needs of BPO companies and employees. The company has partnered with several top BPO companies which are now using GCash’s digital finance solutions, while promoting financial literacy among thousands of BPO employees.

In a webinar organized by GCash called, "GShift: Advancing Digital Financial Solutions for BPOs,” Martha Sazon, GCash president and chief executive officer, said, “Our purpose is to 'Make Filipinos' Everyday Lives Better.' To accomplish this, we provide safe and seamless solutions to various companies like BPOs, while striving to help even more BPOs through a cashless ecosystem and financial literacy.”

BPO companies, like Ibex Philippines Global, are reaping the benefits of their partnership with GCash. According to Potski Alvarez, Ibex Global Philippines' country manager, "One of the things that I was very happy with was how we were able to pay incentives, spiffs, and rewards to our employees in real time. Instead of having to go through payroll and wait 15 days, you get your money within the day, and that has been one of the more practical digital solutions of our partnership with GCash."

During the webinar, Kim Pineda, GCash assistant vice president and head of BPO enterprise, presented the suite of digital financial solutions and programs to support the BPOs' drive for digital innovation and achieve GCash's vision for financial inclusion for all Filipinos.

For disbursements, the GCash PowerPay+ allows the company to disburse incentives, allowances, reimbursements, cash advances, and salaries in real time, and with easy access through the app, anytime, anywhere. To further encourage a cashless ecosystem in the office, merchants within the BPO company can accept payments from employees using the app's QR code through GCash's Cashless Cafeteria Program for BPOs.

GCash also continues to champion financial literacy as it empowers BPO employees to take control of their money through the app's other services. Aside from the everyday transactions and payments such as buying load, paying bills, and sending money, BPO employees and other consumers can shop on GLife or grow their money through the app's financial services such as GSave, GInvest, GInsure, and GCredit.

During the virtual roundtable discussion, Rowena Belmonte, Teleperformance's administrative services manager, noted that partnering with GCash has not only kept her and her colleagues safe, but it has also allowed her to take advantage of the app's many useful features. "For me, personally, I don't have to go to the bank or payment centers and line up to pay for my utilities and other bills. I have also recently enjoyed GInvest and GSave, and of course, GCash's online shopping features!"

Likewise, for Dan Lester Guevarra, Concentrix Philippines' senior project manager, aside from using GCash for online shopping, he has also started investing through the app: "I've also recently discovered GInvest, which I really enjoy. I've invested some money there and I've gotten some profit out of it -- definitely better than just putting it in the bank and incur interests."

Joining GCash during the webinar were partners from the BPO industry including Ibex Global Philippines' country manager Potski Alvarez, Ibex Global Philippines' senior vice president for Business Development Eric Kaufman, and Concentrix Philippines' vice president for People Solutions, Hazel Bañas. GCash VP and Enterprise Head Luigi Reyes also graced the event.

GCash and Max’s Group Support our ‘Heroes on Wheels’ with GCash on Delivery

GCASH HEROES

Since the pandemic started last year, delivery riders have played a big role in making our lives easier as they bring essential items such as food, groceries, medicine, and more, right at our doorsteps. Because of the important role that they play in helping maintain normalcy in our lives, delivery riders are truly one of our modern-day heroes.

To support our “heroes on wheels” during these times, GCash, the country’s leading mobile wallet, partnered with Max’s Group, the largest casual dining restaurant company in the country, and operator of such well-loved brands as Max’s Restaurant, Pancake House, Yellow Cab Pizza Co., and Krispy Kreme, to enable riders to have safe and cashless transactions with GCash on Delivery. The riders can also receive their tips from customers via the GCash QR Code, a timely feature since cash tips have declined, affecting these riders and their families.

“Logistics, transport, and delivery services are all classified as essential services during the pandemic. It would be very challenging to Filipinos and the national economy if they’re unable to operate. That’s why GCash continues to offer innovative business solutions to help customers, the riders, and these industries survive and thrive during these challenging times,” said GCash President and CEO Martha Sazon.

Currently, 350 Max’s Restaurant riders are enabled for GCash transactions. This means customers with GCash accounts have the option to scan-to-pay via the rider’s QR code to settle their delivery orders safely and conveniently — without worrying about having exact change. Upon payment, riders will receive an SMS from GCash confirming the transaction payment. This confirmation happens in real-time and transactions reflect immediately, offering customers, riders, and logistics firms peace of mind that their payment is efficient and secure.

For customers who are happy with the delivery service and want to give a little extra, all they need to do is to scan the rider’s personal GCash QR code to instantly send tips to their rider’s GCash account.

“This tie-up with GCash aims to not only help customers stay safe during the pandemic but to also support delivery riders during these trying times by encouraging customers to give tips to riders in any amount they can using the GCash QR Code. This is also a way for us to show that we appreciate the delivery riders, who are our modern-day heroes. They exhibit hard work, dedication, and bravery despite the risks they take during these times so they can help people get their food and more,” said Max’s Group President & Chief Executive Officer Robert F. Trota.

Max’s Group, with their 8 major brands and over 650 branches globally, was one of the first merchants to sign up with GCash for safe and seamless transactions. Hungry fans can place orders at maxsgroupdelivers.com or (02) 888-7-9000 (Metro Manila only).

GCash is Top Fintech Brand in Philippines' Top 100 Brands 2021

GCash Fintech

GCash, the country's number 1 mobile wallet company, is the top financial technology brand to be included in the Top 100 Brands in the Philippines, according to Campaign Asia-Pacific and NielsenIQ. GCash is also one of Asia’s top 1,000 brands 2021.

Asia's Top 1000 Brands is a consumer opinion survey across 14 markets in Asia-Pacific and measures brand preference in 15 product/service categories. It shows brands that are succeeding with their marketing and brand-building efforts and reveals the favorite brands among consumers. This year’s study saw the changing consumer behavior among brands and their increasing digital services.

The leading e-wallet made it to the list while also hitting an exponential growth of 46 million users in June 2021, from 20 million users in January 2020. The app also had over 13 million log-ins per day on the GCash app, peaking at 15 million in the second quarter of 2021.

With its vision for financial inclusion for all, GCash has quickly adapted to the needs of the Filipino people by being a digital payment essential for individuals and entrepreneurs, especially during the pandemic. The top mobile wallet company worked with the government and became its financial aid tool, disbursing over P16 billion to more than 2 million Filipinos and raising over P21 million to more than 3 million Filipinos via digital bayanihan.

“We are honored to be part of the top brands in the Philippines and in Asia. This award further inspires us to continue with our mission to empower as many Filipinos as possible by giving them access to digital financial solutions that can make their lives better and more convenient especially during this pandemic,” said Martha Sazon, President and CEO of GCash.

No other fintech brand made it to the top 50 of the prestigious list, where the ranking of GCash rose from the previous year’s 51st spot to this 24th in the country in 2021. Among the high-ranking brands in the list are Samsung, Apple, LG, Sony, Panasonic, Nike, Nestle, Google, Colgate, and Starbucks.

GCash’s leap in the list can be attributed to strong consumer spending via the app: This year, GCash processed an average of PHP 300 billion in monthly transactions, and is on track in breaching its PHP 3 trillion Gross Transaction Value (GTV) target.

GCash also provides customers an easy and secure cashless payment platform through digital products and services like free money transfers from user to user, frictionless bank transfers, and bills payments. The mobile wallet company also offers businesses, especially MSMEs, a contactless way to accept payment for goods through the use of QR codes and P2P platform, which has empowered over 2.5 million GCash merchants and social sellers.

Currently, a third of GCash’s monthly active users utilize at least one of the app’s digital products like GCredit, GSave, GInvest, or GInsure. GCash provides customers easy access to a pre-approved credit line to pay for bills or QR transactions with GCredit, safely deposit money with GSave, easily invest in a market fund with GInvest, and buy essentials on GLife. With the health risks of the pandemic, GCash also offers customers COVID-19 health insurance for as low as P39 a month via GInsure.

“We are glad to see that GCash has become an extension of the Filipino digital life. It is our goal to democratize access to financial services because everyone deserves to have ways to protect and grow their money, especially during these difficult times,” said Martha Sazon, GCash President and CEO.

GCash was recently named as an “Outstanding Partner” by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas at the agency’s 2021 Stakeholders Appreciation Ceremony. The recognition is for GCash’s continued support and commitment to deliver innovative financial solutions to all Filipinos, especially the unbanked and underbanked segments.

GCash also garnered two awards from the prestigious Asian Banker Awards 2021, and was the sole Philippine fintech company to do so. It won awards for the “Best Financial Inclusion Initiative/Application” for its Social Amelioration Program together with the Department of Social Welfare and Development, and “Best Digital Brand Campaign” for its CSR response to COVID-19, further solidifying the company as the #1 e-wallet app in the country.

Many Filipinos have come to rely on GCash for their daily cashless payment transactions, helping sustain the economy during the pandemic and propelling the mobile wallet to becoming one of the most respected and widely used brands in the Philippines. According to Visa’s latest Consumer Payment Attitudes study, Filipinos using digital commerce platforms like GCash helped boost the usage of digital payments in the country. It was also expected that it will continue to grow as more Filipinos appreciate the benefits of contactless payments like GCash during the pandemic.
