BizKarte Moves for Pinoys: Skyro Spotlights Real Negosyo Wins

Dreams grow when someone believes in you. Behind every successful business is a story of support, hard work, and the courage to start.

From inspiring life stories and finding one’s passion to real conversations on entrepreneurship and business growth, the newly launched BizKarte Moves by Skyro, an SEC-registered fintech company in the Philippines, offers a wealth of practical wisdom for Filipinos, especially aspiring entrepreneurs.

With episodes now available for viewing on Skyro’s social media platforms, BizKarte Moves is a podcast-style series that follows a simple format: the host visits Skyro’s partner merchant stores and interviews business owners.  They share how they started, the challenges they faced, and how Skyro’s flexible loans and Buy Now, Pay Later options supported their growth.

“Our goal in launching Skyro BizKarte Moves is to help entrepreneurs navigate the dynamic world of business. Through the stories of our partner merchants, we hope to inspire others to start, or keep going, with their own ventures,” shared Iya Lelyanova, Skyro Head of Marketing.

One of the featured guests is Joseph Luigi Torres, who started a buy-and-sell business offering mobile phones while still in college. He has been in the industry for over 16 years and now owns six branches under the name Legitech across multiple locations, selling a wide range of mobile phones, gadgets, and wearables. His first official store was established in Angat, Bulacan, in 2017.

For Mr. Torres, offering flexible payment terms has been key to staying competitive. “Ang pinakahinahanap na kasi ng mga tao ngayon ay laging installment,” he shared. Around 80-90% of their customers who message online ask about installment options. With Skyro’s light and easy terms, Legitech has been able to attract more customers and boost sales.

He first discovered Skyro at their Starmall branch, where neighboring stalls were already offering installments for brand-new cellphones. “We made sure to talk to the area manager to learn more about Skyro. We submitted a proposal, and fortunately, we were accepted. Now, all our branches offer Skyro installment plans,” he added.

Legitech officially became a registered Skyro partner merchant in 2024, recognizing that Skyro was a strong fit for their secondhand phones, as it made them more affordable compared to brand-new units.

Known for providing fast and flexible installment financing through its digital lending platform, Skyro has also been actively supporting its partner merchants by helping boost their visibility. It provides marketing materials like flyers, banners, and tent cards to help stores attract more customers.

Since its introduction in the Philippines in 2022, Skyro has quickly built a reputation for its simple and accessible digital financial services. Today, it is present in over 8,900 partner merchant stores nationwide and serves more than 600,000 active product loan customers.

Closing the Credit Gap: How GCash, Fuse are Helping Women MSMEs Access Fair and Credible Financing

With the celebration of Women’s Month, Fuse Financing, Inc.—the lending arm of GCash— reaffirms its commitment to championing women by making credit more accessible and dignified.  Through a landmark Php 1.75 billion credit facility from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and Fuse’s digital lending product GLoan,  Fuse is breaking long-standing barriers in traditional banking, providing Filipinos with a vital gateway to financing that helps keep their stores stocked, grow businesses, and bridge critical funding gaps for their families.

One of the borrowers is Juvy Camante, a 55-year-old store owner from Pateros. In the past, she avoided applying for loans because of complicated paperwork and strict requirements from traditional lenders. The simple application process of GLoan helped Camante overcome this barrier, providing her with confidence to use credit to support her business.

“Dati natatakot ako mangutang dahil sa dami ng requirements at baka hindi makabayad, pero sa GLoan, ID lang ang kailangan. Dahil dito, lumago ang inventory ng tindahan ko at talagang nakakatulong ito sa pamilya namin,” Camante shared. ("I used to be afraid to borrow because of the many requirements and the risk of not being able to pay, but with GLoan, all I need is an ID. Because of this, my store’s inventory has grown, and it has really helped my family.)

For Angelyn Avila, a store owner from Mandaluyong, managing repayments while running both a household and a small business was a major concern. Informal lending often meant dealing with collectors and rigid repayment schedules that added pressure to her daily routine. Digital repayments through GCash offered Avila a dignified solution, allowing her to pay at her own pace or through automatic deductions from her digital wallet.

“Mas gusto ko ang GLoan dahil walang kolektor na kumakatok at pwedeng mag-bayad anytime sa app. Malaking tulong ito para tuloy-tuloy ang ikot ng puhunan sa aking sari-sari store kahit mahirap ang buhay ngayon,” Avila said. (I prefer GLoan because there are no collectors knocking on my door, and I can make payments anytime through the app. This is a big help in keeping the capital turnover going in my sari-sari store, even though life is tough right now).

Beyond supporting businesses, access to digital credit is helping families meet important needs. (I used GLoan for my child’s allowance and school needs in the province. Because the approval is fast, I can send the money to them immediately so they won’t fall short in their studies.)

Bridging the credit gap

Women continue to play a major role in the local economy. Data shows they accounted for 62% of new business registrations in 2020, yet around 72% still faced challenges in securing formal credit due to strict requirements and collateral demands. Many small entrepreneurs, especially those running sari-sari stores or home-based businesses, often turn to informal lenders with high interest rates.

To address this gap, Fuse is extending credit access directly to communities through GScore, its tech-enabled underwriting which analyzes users’ financial behavior within the GCash app to determine eligibility. At a broader level, this shift is transforming how credit is extended to underserved sectors by replacing traditional bank requirements and physical collateral with  digital records and responsible usage within the platform.

“By removing the barrier of physical collateral and replacing it with digital trust, we are ensuring that every Filipina entrepreneur has the capital she needs to thrive in a digital economy,” said Baby Aquino, chief product officer and strategy head at Fuse Financing Inc.

As of the end of 2025, Fuse has disbursed P362 billion in loans, with three in five borrowers being women—a clear indicator of how digital finance is opening new opportunities for Filipinas to participate in the formal economy.

Fuse continues to champion women by making credit more accessible, helping them grow their businesses or bridge funding gaps so that a better life becomes truly achievable for every Filipina.

GLoan Makes Borrowing Worry-Free with Free Health and Loan Insurance, Giving Borrowers Extra Protection

Fuse Financing Inc. (Fuse), the lending arm of GCash, is now giving free insurance coverage to GLoan borrowers with GLoan Protect. Available for a limited time, this newest feature provides borrowers with free loan and health insurance for every GLoan disbursement worth a minimum of P500, underwritten by Oona Insurance Corporation. This free insurance will waive pending loan balance in case of sudden customer demise or accident-related permanent disability, and provide resources to recover from medical emergencies.

Life and health emergencies can strike unexpectedly. For many Filipinos, sudden medical expenses or unexpected urgent costs can quickly lead to financial distress. Hospitalization and medical costs often result in heavy debt, while the lack of insurance leaves families with limited options to recover financially.

“Oftentimes, Filipinos don’t think of insurance until it’s too late,” said Tony Isidro, president and CEO of Fuse Financing Inc., the lending arm of GCash. “With the free insurance, we’re making sure that every time someone gets a GLoan, they also get a safety net. It’s our way of helping users feel more secure and protected without them having to spend extra.”

By integrating protection into GLoan, GCash—through Fuse and GInsure, the digital insurance platform of GCash with inclusive insurance products across 11 categories including health, life, accident, travel, vehicle, and more —offers borrowers added peace of mind and a safety net against life’s uncertainties.

Under GLoan Protect, the free health insurance covers a hospitalization allowance given to all eligible users who avail of a GLoan worth a minimum amount of P500 moving forward. Users can claim a minimum of P500 or up to 10% of the total loan value when they get confined in the hospital for a minimum stay of 3 days.

The loan insurance benefit is automatically activated once a customer receives their loan proceeds from GLoan, and coverage remains constant and valid until the end of the loan term even when the customer fully pays off their loan earlier than the loan’s due date. In case of customer demise or accident-related permanent disability, beneficiaries will receive the remaining loan value, and the remaining balance will be waived and settled.

The policy will automatically appear in the GInsure dashboard, making the process simple and familiar for borrowers. Claims can be filed through the same steps used for other GInsure products.

“We see this synergy between Fuse and GInsure as part of our mission to reimagine what finance can do for every Filipino,” said Winsley Bangit, group head of new businesses at Mynt, the parent company of GCash. “By combining credit and insurance on a single service, we’re pushing the boundaries of digital innovation to give Filipinos not just access to funding, but also the protection they deserve. It’s another step toward building a more inclusive and resilient financial ecosystem.”

GCash made this initiative possible in partnership with Oona Insurance Corporation, a wholly-owned company by Oona Philippines Holdings Corporation (OPHC), actively expanding into health and digital-first solutions that meet the needs of today’s consumers. Through this partnership, GCash is bringing essential protection to more Filipinos by integrating coverage directly into its widely used digital services.

"Our mission at Oona is to make protection part of everyday life, not something out of reach. Partnering with Fuse and GCash shows how insurance can be embedded seamlessly into the financial services people already use, from borrowing to everyday transactions. By making coverage automatic and effortless, we take an important step toward closing the protection gap and ensuring more Filipinos have the security to move forward with confidence.” said Abhishek Bhatia, founder and CEO of Oona Insurance.

This added benefit strengthens GLoan’s role as more than just a lending option. It becomes a tool that provides quick access to funds and supports Filipinos in building resilience against emergencies.

“This is about giving our users peace of mind,” Isidro said. “When someone takes out a loan, they’re usually thinking about solving an immediate need. By adding free insurance, we’re also helping them prepare for the unexpected. It’s a small change that can make a big difference in protecting families from unforeseen circumstances,” Isidro concluded.

Through this enhanced offering, GCash continues to push its mission of financial inclusion — ensuring more Filipinos have access to services that can improve their financial security in both the short and long term.

GLoan Protect is now available to new GLoan transactions for a limited time starting on January 16 until March 31, 2026. Borrowers should be Filipino citizens, aged 21-65, fully-verified GCash users with a minimum loan approved and disbursed amount of PHP 500, and at least one month loan tenor.

From Dreams to Reality with GLoan: A Working Student’s Journey to Becoming a Lawyer

For many working students, the road to higher education is filled with sacrifices, sleepless nights, and financial uncertainty. For one determined Ilongga, that journey has finally come full circle with a dream realized and the bar successfully passed.

Balancing a full-time job while studying law at Central Philippine University was no easy feat. The pressure of exams, recitations, and maintaining employment was already challenging. But perhaps the biggest hurdle of all was financial.

“I’ve been exposed to legal matters through my work, and I took up law to gain the right knowledge and prepare myself for when it’s needed,” shared Sheila Mae Gomez, who graduated in 2023 and passed the bar in 2024.

“I also pursued law studies to build confidence, make smarter decisions, and help others when they’re dealing with tricky legal situations. For me, becoming a lawyer isn’t just about the title—it’s a chance to stand up for justice, protect people’s rights, and make a real difference by helping others find fair solutions,” she said.

Despite having a monthly income, the cost of legal education was still a challenge for Gomez. “Every enrollment and exam season brought anxiety,” she added. “That’s when GLoan became one of my most reliable yet silent personal partner.”

“It is unfortunate that loans are often seen in a negative light,” remarked Gomez, “but I believe that borrowing, when done with purpose, can be a powerful tool and a smart investment, especially when it supports your education and personal growth.”

GLoan, a service offered by Fuse Financing Inc., the lending arm of GCash, stood out for its simplicity and transparency. With no documentary requirements, no collaterals, quick approval process, clear terms, and no hidden surprises, it provided much-needed peace of mind.

“There was no drama. I didn’t have to risk my relationships by borrowing from family or friends,” she shared. “With GLoan, I immediately saw how much I would receive and what my monthly payments would be,” she expressed.

Now officially a lawyer, she looks back on the journey with gratitude, having finally earned the title “Atty.” that now precedes her name and established a law office to serve her immediate community.

“With the support of my family, friends, and GLoan, I was able to pass the bar. And even now, as I begin this new chapter, GCash continues to be part of my financial journey,” shared Gomez.

To others dreaming of pursuing further studies, her message is clear: “Don’t hesitate to invest in yourself. The road is always tough, but it’s not impossible to reach your dreams.”

GCash Lending Arm Fuse Empowers Underbanked Filipinos with P118 Billion Loans Disbursed

GCash Lending Arm Fuse Empowers Underbanked Filipinos with P118 Billion Loans Disbursed

Fuse Lending, Inc., the credit arm of GCash, surpasses the PHP118 billion mark in life-to-date disbursed loans through the country’s number one finance app as of the end of 2023 – putting both institutions well on their way towards their shared mission of financial inclusion.

“By providing non-collateralized and affordable loan products such as GLoan, GCredit, and GGives through the GCash app, Fuse Lending has successfully supported almost  4 million Filipino loan borrowers, helping millions of Filipinos achieve their financial aspirations and goals in a more convenient, easier, and simpler way,” said Tony Isidro, president and CEO of Fuse.

A GCash study found that nine out of 10 Filipinos need to borrow money, but do not have access to formal lending institutions and banks.

To date, Fuse has given access to fair lending to Filipinos from the grassroots sector such as farmers, sari-sari store owners, public market vendors, and other micro, small, and medium enterprises.

To help more Filipinos unlock their financial goals, Fuse and GCash introduced the latest addition to their lending service offerings – GLoan Sakto, a nano-loan product that can jumpstart Filipinos’ access to formal credit. With this, ordinary Filipinos can borrow as low as PHP100, to accommodate short-term needs or even the smallest-but-urgent expenses – all without requiring users to submit numerous documents and undergo tedious application processes.

With a shared mission to foster financial progress for all, GCash and Fuse recognize that digital financial tools and services that enable enterprises big and small to serve their customers and employees are vital for economic growth.

GCash has onboarded over 6 million partner merchants, including key partners like Puregold and TikTok Shop. Over 49,000 stores nationwide make it possible to pay for purchases with credit (GCredit) or installment (GGives) with their GCash app. Currently, over 94 million users have tried GCash – making it the country’s biggest digital ecosystem.

Anchoring its shared vision of “Finance for All,"  GCash through Fuse Lending continues to open up a world of opportunities for millions of Filipinos and play a significant role in shaping the country's financial landscape into a more inclusive, and diverse ecosystem. For its part, Fuse has been doubling down to achieve its vision of providing access to fair loans that spark better everydays for all Filipinos through its mission of fintech-enabled lending delivered frictionlessly.

Inverter Na ‘Yan: Home Credit’s Guide to Energy-Efficient Appliances this Summer

HOME CREDIT

As the summer season slowly rolls in, we are once again experiencing the intense heat that accompanies this time of the year. To stay comfortable during this hot weather, we rely more on appliances to cool down, leading to increased energy use.

This is why we often consider efficiency a crucial factor when selecting our home appliances. A 2022 study by Clasp, titled “From Informational to Comparative: The New Philippine Energy Label,” revealed that, particularly for appliances like air conditioners, energy efficiency is the top priority for 86 percent of Filipino consumers, followed by durability and affordability.

With this trend, the use of inverter technology in appliances becomes a priority. An advantage of inverter appliances is that they intelligently control the motor’s speed and power consumption based on the requirements for cooling or even washing to reduce energy use, contributing to the reduction of electricity bills.

If you are considering switching to appliances equipped with inverter technology this summer season, Home Credit, one of the country’s leading consumer finance companies, offers a guide to household devices you can replace for an energy-efficient lifestyle.

Beat the summer heat with inverter air conditioners

Inverter air conditioners are unlike traditional ones which operate at full power until a specific space is cool enough and then shut down. These energy-efficient appliances run with special motors that can adjust their speed, maintaining a room's temperature without the energy-consuming process of constantly turning it on and off.

You can experience this incredible feature with models like the Carrier 1.0HP Inverter Window Type Air Conditioner and the Samsung 1.0HP WindFree Split Type Inverter Air Conditioner that offer remarkable cooling to combat the summer heat while also prioritizing energy efficiency.

Keep your refreshments cool with inverter refrigerators

Like inverter air conditioners, refrigerators equipped with this technology boast enhanced energy efficiency thanks to a motor that automatically changes its speed to match the cooling needs—preventing unnecessary on-and-off cycles. When the temperature inside the refrigerator rises above the set point, the compressor slows down, maintaining consistent cooling while minimizing energy consumption.

For those in search of inverter refrigerators to keep their daily refreshments and food supplies cool even in intense heat without the concern of higher electricity bills, consider options such as the Panasonic Two Door No Frost Inverter with Econavi Technology Refrigerator (9.5 cu ft) and the LG 7.2 cu ft Two Door Smart Inverter No Frost Refrigerator.

Optimize your laundry routine with inverter washing machines

To take your pursuit of energy efficiency to the next level, you can also incorporate inverter washing machines into your laundry routine. With inverter technology, their performance adapts to the size and type of laundry, enabling you to use only the necessary amount of water and energy for each load.

You can enjoy this performance from the likes of Whirlpool 8.5kg Top Load Inverter Washing Machine and LG 7.5kg Top Load Smart Inverter Washing Machine. By utilizing inverter washing machines, you can further advance your energy-efficient goals.

Watch out for exciting deals this summer season!

This upcoming summer season, Home Credit is offering fantastic deals to help you realize these inverter appliances, starting March 15 to May 31, 2024. Be sure to mark your calendars to not miss this incredible opportunity.

Stay tuned for installment deals on a range of products, including air conditioners, refrigerators, washing machines, and more. These exciting offers will be available on Shoppingmall.ph.
