Record-Breaking 9,230 McDonald's Stripes Run Participants Ran for a Aause, Raising PHP1 Million for Children’s Literacy
Manila, Philippines, December 2023 – Over 9,230 participants, ranging from families to groups of friends, and solo runners took part in McDonald’s Stripes Run 2023 held last December 10, pledging their support in elevating children’s literacy – a milestone for McDonald’s garnering the highest number of participants after 12 years of holding the program.
Held at the SM Mall of Asia Concert Grounds, Stripes Run saw McDonald’s brand reaching its goal of raising 1 million pesos for the Ronald McDonald House Charities' Read to Learn program while providing an avenue to bring feel-good moments to families and friends this holiday season.
Overall, the 9,230 participants were able to garner as much as PHP 1 Million for the Ronald McDonald Read to Learn, a program that teaches beginning reading to Grades 1 and 2 public school students.
Throughout the event, participants not only ran in the category of their choosing but were also able to take part in the advocacy-driven activity.
An added layer of excitement to Stripes Run was also felt this year, as a new category, Fur Stripes, was introduced in this year’s iteration, allowing participants to run alongside their fur babies.
At the end of the run, smiles on everyone’s faces showed what a memorable time all had at the Stripes Run, made even more special with the knowledge that every runner was able to show their support for elevating Filipino children’s literacy.
“It is truly an honor to witness the coming together of families, friends, and even pets for the 2023 McDonald’s Stripes Run. These initiatives are a testament to the brand’s dedication to providing an avenue for families to enjoy feel-good moments while making an impact. Run to Show Your Support for Children’s Literacy through McDonald’s Stripes Run 2023: Run for Reading
Manila, Philippines - October 27, 2023 – Calling families, friends, and…even furry friends! McDonald’s is set to mount its well-loved Stripes Run: a fun, advocacy-driven running event that brings together families and friends to support Filipino children's literacy.
To be held on December 10 at the SM MOA Concert Grounds, McDonald’s Stripes Run continues to raise one million pesos for Ronald McDonald House Charities’ (RMHC) Read to Learn program which aims to elevate the literary skills of Grades 1 and 2 public school students. RMHC is McDonald’s Charity of Choice, committed to improving the well-being of Filipino children and Families.
Now on its 12th year, Stripes Run 2023 invites more Filipinos to run for reading as it welcomes not only families and friends, but fur babies as well! Through the new 1K Fur Stripes category, pets can now participate alongside their fur moms and dads, letting them enjoy the run’s festivities, too. Fur Stripes will be available as a category for interested participants upon registering, alongside a wide variety of other categories for different distances and age groups: 1K Kiddie Stripes, 3K Stripes, 3K Family Stripes, 5K Stripes, 5K Squad Stripes, and 10K Stripes.

McDonald’s Encourages Kids to Learn New Skills, Find New Friends, and Gain New Knowledge as it Brings Back the Kiddie Crew Workshop

Kami naman, Ma! McDonald’s Captures the Essence of Biving Back to our Mothers with its Mother’s Day Short Film
MANILA, PHILIPPINES – May 12, 2023 – As we grow up, our mothers are growing old too. This Mother’s Day, McDonald’s releases its Mother’s Day short film that captures the essence of appreciating the love and care our mothers gave us while we were growing up. Now that we’ve grown, it’s for us to step up, give back, and say “kami naman, Ma!”
The short film opens with a daughter meticulously going through her mother’s travel bag then finds that she forgot to pack her senior citizen ID, to which her mom affectionately jokes, “senior moment!” Soon enough, her mom’s friends start coming in to fetch her for their trip, but before going away, the daughter hands over McDonald’s as a pabaon, an act of love that our mothers have done for us many times when we were growing up. The short film ends with a flashback to when it was still the mom sending off her little daughter to a field trip, indicating how times have already changed and now it’s time for the daughter to give back what her mother has done for her while growing up.

McDonald’s Opens its Doors again to Provide Safe Space for Students’ After-School Studying
Manila, Philippines – March 30, 2023 – McDonald's recognizes the importance of education and the challenges students face in finding a safe and conducive learning environment for after-school work. With this in mind, McDonald's continues to provide a solution that caters to their needs.
In 2020, over 200 McDonald’s Party Areas were turned into McDonald’s Classroom that catered to teachers’ need for a safe, work-friendly place to conduct their online classes. Coming from the success and impact of the McDonald’s Classroom in the past years, McDonald’s elevates the program to better utilize its party areas and maximize the use of it during the night time. Starting March 28, 2023, 60 participating McDonald’s stores near key universities open their doors to students nationwide to the McDonald's Night Classroom that shall cater to their late night study sessions from 8 PM to 6 AM daily.The McDonald's Night Classroom is equipped with solo study and wide table setups and free WiFi access in select stores for uninterrupted study and work sessions. Aside from a space to work and study, participants can also enjoy big deals and discounts on their McDonald’s favorites with exclusive offers from the McDonald’s App starting April 1. With the Night Classroom, students can now have a convenient and comfortable location to complete their academic tasks, allowing them to maximize their productivity.

Treating the planet responsibly
In terms of environmental sustainability, Jollibee Group focuses on the key areas of packaging and recycling, energy, water, and waste.
By the end of 2022, Jollibee Group manufacturing sites in the Philippines achieved 21% reduction in energy use ratio, 23% reduction in water use ratio, and 38% reduction of waste, with almost 50% of waste now being recycled versus the company’s 2020 benchmarks. On the store level, each solar panel installed reduces about 3-7% of consumption form the grid.

Apart from establishing a unit dedicated to sustainability and the appointment of a Chief Sustainability Officer as part of its Executive Team, Jollibee Group also instituted an Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) Council to ensure that its business operations are aligned with the sustainability goals.
