CSA led roster of champions in WVL’s 21st season


Colegio San Agustin led the roster of champions in the recently concluded 21st season of the country’s biggest and longest running volleyball tournament for girls, the BEST Center’s Women’s Volleyball League (WVL). Besting more than 60 top-ranked teams from 36 renowned schools across the metro, CSA along with St. Paul College Makati, King’s Montessori School and School of Saint Anthony were declared champions in each of their respective divisions in best of three games.

In the 13 and Under Competitive Division, Colegio San Agustin won in a tight match against King’s Montessori School, 15-12. Escuela de Sophia Caloocan won 3rd place while Jubilee Christian Academy placed 4th.

On the other hand, School of Saint Anthony dominated the court in a battle against Colegio San Agustin Team A in the 13 and Under Developmental Division with a final score of 25-21. School of the Holy Spirit and St. Paul’s College Makati got 3rd and 4th place respectively.

In the 17 and Under Competitive Division, King’s Montessori School Team A was able to oust San Pedro Relocation Center National High School in the third game, 15-12.  3rd place went to La Salle College Antipolo after winning against Hope Christian High School.

Meanwhile, in the 17 and Under Developmental Division, St. Paul College Makati easily defeated Saint Pedro Poveda College with a final score of 25-22. School of Saint Anthony came in third while Colegio San Agustin Team A placed 4th.

The highly-coveted Sportsmanship award was also given for each division. Winners of which are Paref Rosehill School Inc. for 13 and Under Developmental Division, Colegio San Agustin for the 13 and Under Competitive Division, St. Scholastica’s College for the 17 and Under Developmental Division and King’s Montessori School Team A for 17 and Under Competitive Division.

WVL also recognized outstanding talents and awarded individual trophies for Best Libero, Best Setter, Best Spiker and Best Server as well as the Most Valuable Player for each division.

“It was great seeing all these talented young athletes showcasing their skills in yet another successful season of WVL,” quipped BEST Center founder and former PBA coach, Nicanor Jorge. “It’s heartwarming to see their passion for the sports and their perseverance not only to winning but to doing their best for the team. We are proud to provide a venue for these future volleyball champions to hone their competitive skills. I can’t wait for another great tournament next year.”

Organized by BEST (Basketball Efficiency and Scientific Training) Center and sponsored by Milo, WVL is recognized by the Philippine Sportswriters Association “for being a consistent breeding ground of young talents in volleyball for the past 20 years”.

Meanwhile, BEST Center is nationally renowned for its great contribution to sports development in the Philippines. Because of the clinic’s dedication to not only producing future champions but also promoting sports and physical fitness among kids, BEST Center is cited by the Philippine Sportswriters Association (PSA) and the Olympism Award from the Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) as hall of famer.
