2GO Recognized by Data Lake for Enabling Rapid Nationwide Rollout of PIALEOS Connectivity Project

Manila, Philippines, 18 May 2026 – 2GO, the country’s largest logistics solutions provider, was recognized by Data Lake Inc. as a trusted partner in the successful rollout of the PIALEOS Project under the Free Wi-Fi for all program of the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), with the Department of Education as its key beneficiary. The PIALEOS project is an initiative led by Data Lake Inc., with the joint venture partner, We Are IT, Inc., to deliver high-speed satellite internet connectivity to geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas across the Philippines. Anchored on the principle that reliable connectivity enables access to possibilities, the project brings Starlink-powered internet to public schools, helping bridge the longstanding digital divide.

The recognition highlights not only 2GO’s logistics capabilities, but also its role in enabling communities to grow through improved access to information, services, and opportunities.

Data Lake Inc. positions itself as a national enabler of connectivity, working in close partnership with the government to advance national program agendas such as digital transformation and the nationwide deployment of resilient digital infrastructure. As the first and largest authorized Starlink reseller in the Philippines, Data Lake delivers secure, audit-ready, and rapidly deployable connectivity solutions that support large-scale public sector requirements. This capability is operationalized through initiatives such as the PIALEOS Project, implemented with the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) and the Department of Education (DepEd), to bridge connectivity gaps in geographically isolated and underserved areas. PIALEOS enables reliable high-speed internet access for public schools and institutions, strengthening service continuity and expanding inclusive digital access at scale.

Enabling this level of execution requires strong operational partners, which is why 2GO plays a critical role. Through the timely and efficient movement of equipment, 2GO supported the rapid deployment of these services. As a result, public schools in far-flung areas now have access to essential digital services, reaching even the most remote and hard-to-reach communities across the country.

Ria Valdez, Vice President for Operations of Data Lake Inc., reflected on the challenges encountered during implementation. “There were long travels, storms, power interruptions, and real challenges on the ground. There were times we had to go back to the same site, changes in our master list, travel for days again, just to complete what was needed,” she said. “But we didn’t give up because we understood the why. We saw the students, the teachers, the communities waiting to be connected, and that made everything worth it. Because this project was never just about connection. It’s about hope, opportunity, access, and the future of our students and our communities.”

“Everybody really gave 100% every day just to make it happen. And a lot of sleepless nights, a lot of stress, a lot of worry, but it’s sharing a dream together. And we all have the same dream,” said Jose Cobarrubias, Chief Operating Officer of Data Lake Inc. “And it’s beyond connectivity, right? The free Wi-Fi, internet, but what’s behind that? What’s important to us is what internet can provide. It’s the future. It’s giving that one student a chance to realize their dreams… It makes everything possible.”

Faye Alonzo, Business Unit Head of 2GO Forwarding, emphasized the broader impact of the partnership. “We are proud to support initiatives like the PIALEOS Project, under the Free Wi-Fi for all programs, that create meaningful impact for communities across the country. Our role goes beyond moving cargo. We help drive progress by ensuring that essential infrastructure reaches the areas that need it most, including students who now have better access to education and opportunities that can shape their future. This recognition reflects the strength of our operations and our commitment to delivering solutions that support national development.”

As part of this milestone, 2GO was also honored with the Special Leadership Award in Delivery Operations for its role in the project. The award underscores the company’s ability to execute complex, large-scale deployments with speed, consistency, and operational discipline, even in the most challenging environments.

Through its multimodal and tailored logistics solutions, 2GO goes beyond the movement of goods. The company plays a role in connecting communities, supporting access to essential services, and opening opportunities that help both businesses and people grow and move forward.

Love May be Blind, but Trust Shouldn’t be: GCash Strengthens Consumer Protection Efforts Against Love Scams

GCash continues to step up its security systems and awareness campaigns as part of its thrust in consumer protection. The initiative aligns with advisories from the Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (CICC), the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), and the Philippine National Police Anti-Cybercrime Group (PNP-ACG).

Authorities say love scams remain one of the most common online fraud schemes, where criminals build and take advantage of emotional connections before asking for money. Recent data from the CICC show 123 love scam complaints in 2025, with 18 cases recorded in January 2026 alone. Cases usually increase during the love month as scammers become more active.

Common signs of romance/love scams

Government advisories highlight several warning signs:

·        Sudden requests for money under the guise of emergencies, travel, or medical needs

·        Refusal to meet in person or join live video calls

·        Profiles with overly polished or unrealistic photos

·        Persistent pressure to send money or invest in unfamiliar platforms

Authorities remind the public to be extra vigilant, verify identities, and avoid sending money to people they have only met online.

Investing in prevention and user protection

To help stop scams before they happen, GCash continues to invest in technology, partnerships, and user education. The company works closely with the DICT, CICC, PNP-ACG, and the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to support investigations and public awareness efforts.

On the platform, GCash maintains several layers of protection, including:

·        Verified user identities through strict KYC processes

·        Real-time fraud monitoring

·        Account security features such as PINs, OTPs, and device checks

·        Confirmation prompts when sending money to a new contact or recipient

·        In-app advisories on common scam tactics

Users can also report suspicious activity through the app’s Help Center or official customer support channels.

“Love scams often rely on emotional manipulation rather than technical attacks,” said Miguel Geronilla, Chief Information Security Officer at Mynt, parent company of GCash. “We continue to strengthen our security systems and work closely with government agencies, but users should always verify before sending money to someone they only know online,” he added.

Government advisories also note that senior citizens are among the most targeted groups, making awareness and platform safeguards even more important.

Through continued investments in security, partnerships, and public education, GCash aims to create a safer digital financial experience for Filipinos, making cybersecurity a top priority for GCash, our partners, and regulators.

TP Opens Second Davao Site, Strengthens Mindanao Footprint with State-of-the-Art, Scalable Hub

TP in the Philippines (formerly Teleperformance), a leader in digital business services, today announced the launch of TP Davao Uprise, its second site in Davao City and fourth across Mindanao, reinforcing the company’s long-term commitment to regional growth, talent development, and inclusive job creation in the Philippines.

Located at The Uprise at Felcris Centrale Mall, a PEZA-accredited development, the new site currently serves global and domestic markets and is scalable for expansion as needed. Apart from the operations areas, the site also houses a recruitment hub and several recreational spaces including a fully equipped gym, a karaoke room, and a basketball half court.

“The launch of TP Davao Uprise reflects our confidence in Davao City as a strategic growth hub and in Mindanao as a critical pillar of the country’s IT-BPM industry,” said Rahul Jolly, CEO of TP in the Philippines. “With scale-ready infrastructure, deep talent pool, and strong public–private collaboration, Davao continues to enable us in TP to deliver world-class service to our clients.”

Key regional officials from Davao’s local government units and industry partners were present at the opening of TP Davao Uprise including Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA), Davao Chamber of Commerce and Industry, ICT Davao, Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) in Davao, and the IT & Business Process Association of the Philippines (IBPAP).

MinDA Chair Leo Magno shared how the IT-BPM industry is one of the fastest growing sectors of our economy and a powerful driver of job creation, exports, and digital transformation. “Investments such as TP's expansion in the Davao Region translate the national vision into concrete outcomes - generating quality, future-ready jobs for Mindanaoans.”

He further adds that “as TP continues to expand its footprint in Mindanao, it also creates a strong demonstration effect. It sends a clear message to other investors, both local and foreign, that Mindanao is open, capable and ready for business.”

Domain-Ready Talent Pool

Davao City is home to over 100,000 IT-BPM professionals, the largest talent hub in Mindanao and expanding since last year. The region is well-known for a strong talent pool for English proficiency and low attrition. The city’s workforce offers deep domain expertise, particularly in travel and hospitality services, supporting functions such as guest services, reservations, and itinerary logistics.

“People are at the center of our growth strategy, and Davao continues to prove itself as a destination for resilient, highly capable, and customer-focused talent,” said Jeffrey Johnson, Chief People Officer of TP in the Philippines. “TP Davao Uprise expands our ability to provide meaningful employment, career mobility, and skills development while supporting clients that require specialized, domain-ready teams.”

Recognized Digital and Business Hub

Davao City’s position as a leading digital growth center is reinforced by its recognition as a Digital Cities Awardee and a DICT–IBPAP Center of Excellence, as well as its ranking in the top 10 of the 33 highly urbanized cities in the DTI’s Cities and Municipalities Competitiveness Index in the past years.

The launch of TP Davao Uprise marks the next phase of expansion, underscoring TP’s long-term investment in Mindanao as a growth engine for both the company and the national economy.

Strategic Location and Connectivity Advantage

Situated in the center of Davao City, TP Davao Uprise anchors operations within the growing Davao Region economy, the principal trade and commercial hub of Mindanao. The site offers strong visibility and access to a growing consumer and talent base, supporting workforce mobility and business continuity.

Its proximity to Francisco Bangoy International Airport, which is set to scale up to 13 million passenger capacity this year, strengthens domestic and international connectivity. The site is also near Sasa Wharf, supporting passenger terminal access, and is future-ready with major infrastructure projects underway, including the High Priority Bus System and the proposed 102-kilometer Mindanao Railway.

TP Davao Uprise builds on the company’s strong presence in Mindanao complementing its existing operations in SM Davao in Matina (Davao City), Cagayan de Oro City, and micro-site operations in General Santos City. Together, these locations position Mindanao as a strategic delivery cluster supporting the region’s fast‑growing digital services sector.

Government Agencies and GCash Accelerate Digital Philippines Transformation, Boosting Transparency and Public Service Delivery

In line with the government’s vision to eliminate red tape and corruption, the Anti-Red Tape Authority (ARTA), together with the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP), Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), and the country’s leading finance app GCash, convened to champion the complete digitalization of public services. The workshop, “GCash for the Nation: Building Capabilities Toward a Sustainable Digital Ecosystem,” was held at the ARTA premises in the UP-AyalaLand Technohub, Quezon City.

Bringing together leaders from economic, regulatory, and local government sectors, the session underscored a shared commitment that digital transformation is key to transparent, efficient, and citizen-centered governance.

“Digitalization is not just ease of doing business but an assurance against undesired allegations such as corruption. Every time we move a process online, we create a system that is accountable, traceable, and citizen-centered,” said ARTA director general Ernesto Perez.

Government and industry leaders agreed that moving processes online not only speeds up delivery but also ensures every transaction is properly documented and verifiable. However, one major challenge remains—shifting from paper-based audits to digital validation. BSP deputy governor Bernadette Romulo-Puyat highlighted this social shift, emphasizing that building trust in digital platforms is essential for the government’s transformation journey.

“Digital finance must build not only convenience but also trust. Through the years, we’ve already established financial inclusion, and we have now evolved into driving financial health,” she said.

As the country’s leading finance app and largest cashless ecosystem, GCash reaffirmed its commitment to supporting government agencies in adopting paperless and cashless systems. This collaboration aims to accelerate the shift toward e-payments and digital records, improving ease of doing business and minimizing bureaucratic bottlenecks.

“The digital economy reached 2.25 trillion in 2024, signaling our shift toward a fully digital future. (At DepDev), we are driving digitalization across planning, policy, and implementation while advancing key reforms to simplify business processes. We look forward to working with all our partners to bring Filipinos closer to a more comfortable and resilient way of life, “said DepDev assistant secretary Reynaldo Cancio.

Through the partnership, ARTA and GCash will roll out capacity-building initiatives for local and national government units, enabling them to develop digital systems aligned with the government’s transformation roadmap. These initiatives include digital payment integration, streamlined records management, and strengthened citizen access to essential services.

“Digital transformation requires both technology and mindset. We’re here to build the digital backbone that allows government agencies to deliver faster, cleaner, and more inclusive services to Filipinos,” said Cleo Celeste Santos, GCash vice president and head of public sector.

GCash is proud to stand alongside ARTA and our government partners in advancing a truly digital nation—one that enables transparent, efficient, and inclusive services for all,” Santos added.

The workshop underscored ARTA’s “whole-of-government” approach to reforming public services—an effort that aligns seamlessly with GCash’s vision of “Finance for All.” By empowering agencies with secure and efficient digital tools, GCash continues to play a pivotal role in building a safe, trusted, and inclusive digital economy—helping government institutions uphold transparency, accountability, and sustainable governance for every Filipino.

“Once fully deployed, we will anchor a sustainable digital ecosystem that streamlines transactions, strengthens transparency, and accelerates the country’s digitalization agenda,” said GPPB-TSO Capacity Development Division officer-in-charge Renlay Concha.

GCash for the Nation program brings digital and financial literacy training to different regions across the country. Earlier sessions were held in Pangasinan and in the National Government Agencies cluster in NCR, Eastern and Western Visayas. These will be followed by the next runs in Cagayan Valley on November 25, and Albay on November 27. Through these continuing efforts, GCash remains steadfast in its mission to enable Finance for the Nation by empowering communities, MSMEs, and government partners through digital innovation.

Connecting the Unconnected: Eastern Advances Inclusive Education Through Connectivity and Digital Literacy Efforts

Eastern Communications, the Philippines' pioneering telecommunications company and ICT solutions provider, continues to exceed expectations in championing digital equity and inclusive progress through its sustained community and digital literacy efforts. The company's initiatives, led by its digital enablement program, Project Maaasahan, are advancing access to connectivity and digital literacy for underserved communities, ensuring that every Filipino has the tools to thrive in a digital-first world.

Bringing connectivity where it matters
The Philippines continues to face a significant digital divide. According to the World Bank, the access gap in broadband internet between social classes is rapidly expanding, with fixed broadband penetration in the top wealth quintile being significantly higher than in the bottom quintile.

This disparity is further highlighted in a study by the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), which shows that while 92% of barangays have access to a cellular signal, only about 12% have access to free Wi-Fi, and about 29% have access to fiber optic cable. These statistics underscore the urgent need for initiatives that directly address connectivity and infrastructure gaps, particularly in geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas (GIDA).

Eastern Communications is tackling this challenge head-on with Project Maaasahan, a multi-year initiative in partnership with unconnected.org and the Department of Education (DepEd). The program aims to bring vital internet connectivity to 10 GIDA schools across Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. Through this initiative, Eastern will provide free internet access and digital literacy programs to students, teachers, and their communities. To date, 4 out of 10 target sites have been successfully connected, with satellite devices fully functional and official turnovers completed.

“Our mission is to help close the digital divide by connecting the unconnected,” said Jed Estanislao, Chief Marketing and Experience Officer at Eastern Communications. “We believe in the power of connectivity to transform lives. By providing these schools with the right tools, we are not just giving them internet access; we are opening up a world of information and opportunity, and helping to secure a brighter future for our young learners.”

Internet access reaches more learners
The impact is already being felt on the ground, with over 805 students and 30 teaching staff from the connected sites now having access to the internet. Among the first beneficiaries are Panicuason Elementary School in Naga City, San Jose Elementary School in Dipolog City, Namabbalan Integrated School in Tuguegarao City, and Pao-Pao High School in General Santos City.

For Panicuason Elementary School Principal Winnife Urot, Project Maaasahan represents more than just a CSR effort. "This is a partnership with purpose, anchored in love for Filipino learners and belief that education is the greatest equalizer," she said.

In General Santos City, the access to connectivity is a game-changer for Pao-Pao High School's 340 students, many of whom are from indigenous communities and travel up to four hours a day to attend classes.

(Translation: "What was once just a dream of having a good, fast and reliable internet connection is now a reality. Project Maaasahan is not just about providing connectivity. It is a bridge of hope, progress, and change. It is proof that even at the top of a mountain, knowledge and opportunity can still reach every student.")

Nurturing the next generation of innovators
Furthering its advocacy for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education, Eastern Communications continues to foster digital literacy through its partnerships with organizations like TeamAsia and the Payatas Orione Foundation Inc. (PAOFI).

The company once again collaborated with the My Dream in a Shoebox (MDIAS) program, providing 100 public school student beneficiaries from PAOFI with an immersive visit to The Mind Museum in Bonifacio Global City, Taguig. The activity included a Tech Career Talk from Eastern’s own employees to inspire students to pursue opportunities in the technology sector, culminating in the gift-giving of Dream Kits filled with essential learning materials.

With its sustained investments in Project Maaasahan and other education-focused partnerships, Eastern Communications reaffirms its belief that education is the greatest equalizer. By delivering both “High Tech” solutions and a “High Touch” approach, the company remains committed to building a digitally empowered Philippines where every learner has the chance to connect, learn, and succeed.

The New Architects of Tech: Three Female Leaders Creating a More Inclusive Industry

The New Architects of Tech: Three Female Leaders Creating a More Inclusive Industry

Manila, Philippines — In an era of rapid technological advancement, women are challenging the status quo, redefining innovation, and promoting inclusivity in the industry. Their contributions, from research and development to leadership, demonstrate that women are essential drivers of technological progress and diversity.

According to a Boston Consulting Group study, only 35% of the tech workforce in the Philippines comprises women, despite having the highest number of women technology graduates in the Southeast Asia region (48%). The disparity of opportunity and gender-based discrimination in the workforce is still prevalent despite years of advancing the rights and welfare of women in a male-dominated sector—or perhaps in society.

Amidst the challenges, these three leading ladies are helping forge a path for future female innovators to make their mark in the technology landscape.

Progression Towards a Digital Philippines

Emmy Lou Versoza-Delfin, Director IV for ICT Industry Development Bureau at the Department of Information and Communications Technology, brings a fresh perspective on the role of government in accelerating the country's digital transformation. With 25 years of forwarding the local ICT industry, Delfin is at the forefront of initiatives to ensure that technology serves as a catalyst for empowerment and equal opportunity for all Filipinos, especially women in the tech sector. Some of these initiatives include promoting diversity in leadership, creating safe and inclusive workplaces, offering training and skill development programs, and opportunities for networking and community-building.

"As a woman leader supporting the tech industry, my motivation stems from the belief that diversity in leadership drives innovation and inclusivity in the digitalization process. The DICT and the local tech industry are actively taking steps to create a more inclusive environment for women. Overall, these efforts contribute to creating a more inclusive and supportive environment where women can thrive and contribute meaningfully to the advancement of technology and innovation," Delfin emphasized.

“Remember, you have the power to shape the future of technology and make a positive impact in the world. Keep pushing forward with determination, resilience, and confidence,” she added.

Leading in Innovation: The Path Forward

This evolving narrative of female leadership in technology serves as a bridge to similar progressions in adjacent sectors, illustrating that the momentum of change can happen anywhere. We witness a parallel beacon of female leadership in Rosemarie Ong, Senior Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Wilcon Depot Inc. Under Ong's stewardship, Wilcon Depot Inc. has embarked on an ambitious digital transformation journey, setting new standards in the retail and construction supply industry.

Recognizing the critical importance of keeping pace with technological trends, Ong has spearheaded initiatives such as the VR Store Experience and the development of MyWilconApp, which have revolutionized customers' interactions with Wilcon's vast product offerings. Ong's vision extends beyond enhancing customer experience; it's about creating a ripple effect of empowerment and inclusivity. "By investing in women, we foster an inclusive society—transforming the landscape of business competitiveness and productivity," she asserts.

An Inclusive and Thriving Workplace for Women

Historically dominated by male leadership, the tech sector is witnessing a remarkable shift towards gender inclusivity and diversity, thanks to visionaries like Atty. Aileen Regio, co-coordinator of Eastern Communications. With a steadfast belief in the power of innovation and the vital role of women in tech, Regio has been at the forefront of Eastern Communications' transformation.

Her leadership during the challenging pandemic has not only steered the company towards embracing ICT solutions but has also showcased the indispensability of female leadership in driving technological advancement and organizational change. “Time has truly changed for the better. I want to encourage more women to take the lead and showcase their talents and capabilities,” she highlighted.

At Eastern, Atty. Regio commits to be a transformative force not just in breaking barriers for women tech innovators, but also in spearheading innovation and adapting to the evolving digital era, “I firmly believed that embracing innovation was best for the company and would benefit our people.” Her seven years of visionary leadership have not only advanced Eastern Communications' position in the telecommunications industry but have also exemplified a broader movement towards inclusivity and progress.

Looking towards the future, Regio envisions a tech industry where women are not just well-represented but are steering the path toward innovation. "I dream that women in tech will thrive, driving innovation and leading change," she stated. With initiatives focused on diversity and gender equality, such as the full implementation of the Anti-Sexual Harassment Act and Safe Spaces Act in the workplace and equal capacity-building opportunities, Eastern Communications is committed to making this vision a reality, paving the way for a more inclusive and equitable tech landscape.

The technology industry is changing. Despite the challenges, there's a growing recognition of the need for gender equality and the invaluable contributions women bring to the tech scene. From leadership roles to groundbreaking innovations, women are proving indispensable in pushing the boundaries of what's possible in tech.

The message is clear: the future of technology is not just digital—it is unequivocally inclusive. As we navigate the complexities and competitive tech scene, women will thrive and leave their mark in the world.

Web3 Gaming: Building the Future of the Philippines with Local and International Support

TAGUIG, Philippines (November 29, 2023) — There are six sectors that are driving the digital economy in the Philippines, according to Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) Undersecretary Jocelle Batapa-Sigue at the recently concluded YGG Web3 Games Summit. "The second sector after transport is gaming, and it means that we really have a very robust and vibrant gaming industry," she noted.

The first-ever YGG Web3 Games Summit, organized by Yield Guild Games, was held in Bonifacio Global City from November 18 to 25 with the support of Hyperplay, Aura, Globe, and others. The summit brought together over 90 local and international Web3 game developers, content creators, esports athletes, Web3 VCs and various government officials for a week-long celebration of Web3 gaming and showcased the community committed to securing the Philippines’ role as the home of Web3 gaming adoption.

YGG Pilipinas Country Lead Mench Dizon described the summit as “the Web3 games event to watch out for,” with the summit being the equivalent of the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco but for Web3 games.

We need to design for the future that we want, starting with Web3

It was perhaps Batapa-Sigue who left the audience with the strongest rallying cry to the future of Web3 gaming in the Philippines: “We need to create the future that we want.”

“I am challenging this generation, this innovative start-up generation. Let’s move from 0 to 1, let’s create and start things, and the government is here to help you experiment. Make sure if you fail, you fail wisely and you pivot immediately because that is what we need. We need to be creative, we need to design for the future that we want, starting with Web3,” she said.

“We take a look at the community and we search for champions, and so I am happy that I am now in the midst of them, you have Atty. Nathan Marasigan, founding trustee of Web3 Association Philippines, and of course Mr. Gabby Dizon here of Yield Guild Games and all of the other Web3 founders. And we are happy that we have this thriving community of champions and founders,” continued Batapa-Sigue, closing “What we do is we empower and equip these champions, we catalyze them, we look for platforms and ways to put the blessings of the government towards you coming together and creating your own ecosystems.”

The Philippines remains the beating heart of Web3 gaming

In a strong assertion of the Philippines’ dominance in the global Web3 gaming ecosystem, Sky Mavis co-founder Jeffrey “Jihoz” Zirlin took the stage to announce the return of Axie Classic and acknowledged the pivotal role Filipinos have played in the success of Axie Infinity and also the Ronin blockchain which has third party games being built on it, such as the current hit Web3 game Pixels.

“In the last day, 82,000 Filipinos have played Pixels, and I am looking directly at the Google Analytics data. These are real people, these are Filipinos. Ronin is back. The Philippines is back. It is clear, as we enter a new cycle, that the Philippines remains the beating heart of Web3 gaming,” he said.

It is not just Sky Mavis looking to the Philippines for Web3 adoption since the local community is far ahead of the adoption curve. “Asian countries are markets that really understand Web3, blockchain, and user-generated content and how they can engage into it and leverage it, not only from the brand perspective but also from the creators’ and player’s perspectives,” stated Sebastien Borget, The Sandbox Co-Founder.

Other global developers took this opportunity to test and launch a slew of new Web3 games in the Philippines via the YGG Web3 Games Summit. Among them were Ragnarok Landverse, a free-to-play Web3 game that serves as the follow-up to Ragnarok Online, the MMORPG much loved by by Filipino gamers for almost two decades, PROJECT XENO, Parallel, Star Atlas, Nine Chronicles M, MetaCene, Riftstorm, Cryptopia, Mighty Action Heroes and more.

With the global appetite for Web3 and cryptocurrency dulled by regulatory uncertainty in many parts of the world, the national government’s presence coupled with the impressive list of international Web3 game developers present, signaled an exciting shift in sentiment.

“For the next two years at least, all of these games will first launch in Southeast Asia. When it comes to Southeast Asia, the country that leads in terms of Web3 gaming adoption is the Philippines,” Dizon said.

Bringing global opportunities to Filipino Web3 gamers

Serving as the heart of the country’s vibrant Web3 gaming community are the local guilds who continued to play Web3 games throughout different market conditions. For Dizon, the summit could not have been more timely, with such an impressive roster of hot Web3 games launching at the summit, gaming guilds are back stronger than ever. With these new Web3 games being launched, many on par with the quality of traditional games, he foresees that Filipino gamers more accustomed to mobile and console gaming will explore the benefits of Web3 gaming.

“For all of us here, we want millions of people to come in. We want the games to be fun and be accessible to all types of gamers and we want to introduce them to Web3 elements when they delve deeper,” he said. Dizon also explained that some Web3 games are free to play, with gamers given the chance to own a part of the virtual economy by purchasing in-game non-fungible tokens (NFTs).

.

Adding to that local appeal with free-to-play elements, are games like Anito Legends, a strategic auto-battler inspired by Filipino mythology and developed by Filipinos but with global appeal. Anito Legends co-founder and CMO Jayvee Fernandez emphasized the need to introduce a truly Pinoy game to which Filipinos can relate and connect.

“We’re making use of Filipino folklore, tikbalang the saranay, the alan, all of these mythical creatures put together,” he said.

To ensure that Filipinos are able to take full advantage of this global opportunity, YGG has a variety of structured programs to build up skills and reward the community through education and achievement initiatives like the Guild Advancement Program (GAP) and Superquests, and as well as events like the YGG Web3 Games Summit and the various community events they host year round. The summit proved a valuable opportunity to reinforce the viability of pursuing a career in Web3, through the live learning sessions by YGG’s Web3 Metaversity program which was open to all attendees during the web3 gaming expo.

For those taking their Web3 gaming more seriously, the summit also included cosplay competitions and esports tournaments. Supporting all those who chose to get competitive in their Web3 gaming, legendary boxer Manny Pacquiao was on hand to award a total of $100,000 cash prizes to the winners of the PROJECT XENO Pro Tour Manila esports tournament held as part of the YGG Web3 Games Summit.

The celebrity support for Web3 gaming didn’t end there. Barangay Ginebra San Miguel players Jared Dillinger and Tony Bishop, meanwhile, delighted the conference delegates earlier in the week with a game showcase of the co-op top-down action shooter Riftstorm live on stage.

“I've been lucky enough to build a career doing what I love, playing basketball, but not every Filipino gets to do that. I see Web3, especially Web3 gaming, as a chance for every Filipino to learn about technology and build a better future for themselves doing what they love, playing games.” said Dillinger. “As we saw the YGG Web3 Games Summit, Filipinos dominate Web3 gaming today and the whole world knows it, but if we double down now on education for players and support for the industry, there will be no stopping us in the future.”

Contact tracing apps take the spotlight at DTI's Pitch Party

DTI Pitch Party

Curated contact tracing applications will take center stage in an online Pitch Party streaming on September 25, 2020 at 2:00 in the afternoon via Zoom and FB Live.

This online event is a joint endeavor of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Department of Science and Technology (DOST), Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), StartupIslandPH, The Company, LGU Dumaguete, Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI)-Visayas, the various Chambers in Region 7 and the Rotary.

DTI R7 Assistant Regional Director Maria Elena Arbon said that this webinar is the second of 3 online events under DTI's Ready to Recover (R2R) banner.

The online Pitch Party, Arbon enthused, gathers presenters of contact tracing applications to deliver a short and concise business pitch to describe the company and the application in a way that can be easily understood by the general public, as well as capture the attention of the business community.

Contact tracing apps such as WeScan, QRCity, Clear Pass, CoScan, Radar, KeepSafe, OpenGov, TapTrace, TMDC, ZTrace, Safe Pass, among others, will be pitched in DTI's chat show this coming Friday.

According to the DTI director, this initiative also spurs the growth of startups and supports the development of the startup ecosystem in Central Visayas.

Arbon explained that the main goal of this event is to inform businesses and educate the public on the technology options currently available.

"DTI is again encouraging businesses to adopt more effective and safer tech solutions for health monitoring to replace pen and paper," She added.

Arbon pointed out that community involvement is critical to the program's success and hopes that the webinar will spark a business sector led movement for the adoption of smarter and better contact tracing methods.

Supporting Strong Connectivity While Staying Home with Converge ICT

With most of the population working from home, the country’s workforce is relying on fast internet connection and efficient productivity tools. That is why fastest growing internet service provider Converge ICT is resuming their operations in Metro Manila and select areas in North Luzon to power hundreds of Filipino households relying on their broadband service.
To protect both their employees and consumers, installer personnel will be covered with protective masks and all paraphernalia and vehicles will be fully sanitized before being taken out for service.

On their part, employees are given temporary lodging near their office, sanitation kits with alcohol, gloves, and masks, and vitamins to boost their immune system. They are also provided with food to minimize their mobility and undergo daily temperature checks.
“We, at Converge, are a firm believer in acting together in these challenging times to provide the best service for Filipinos. As we all adapt into the new normal homes and select businesses should get the extensive resources and support to be online. We will do what we can to provide strong connectivity because more than ever now, we need to stay connected with loved ones, friends and colleagues that we can only see virtually,” said Dennis Uy, Founder of Converge ICT Solutions.

“The health and safety of our people is paramount, so we are implementing necessary measures to keep them from harm’s way. We know that through this we are able to extend outstanding service to our customers too,” he added.

The processing of applications for new users has already resumed and will operate during weekends to fast track the need for Converge’s service. In addition to the installation service, customer service and repair services will also resume. The services may take within 3 to 10 days in compliance with travel restrictions, checkpoints, and essential manpower that may restrict the operations.

As a company resolute in being one with the front-liners, Converge has also previously given more than a thousand units of personal protective equipment to Angeles City Hospital.
